Also, America was written on things mainly Christian which goes against their main goal of freedom of religion. While on the other hand the French Revolution seemed to tie up everything better with the fairness of people and the freedom of religion by pushing the Church away.</div>]]></description>

Also, slaves were not even considered people, and therefore the enlightenment rights did not apply to them. In the Haitian (and other) revolutions, it was the slaves who were the revolutionaries, fighting against slavery. So naturally one of the first things the revolutionaries would do when they gained power was abolish slavery, which they had experienced and knew how wrong it was.</div>]]></description>

Europeans had originally explored the americas and taken over natives, and when natives all died, they brought Africans. This does not justify the slavery but the rights of man were not seen to be applied to things which is exactly what slaved were with the new form of slavery:chattel slavery. </div>]]></description>

In theory, equal rights sounds like a great idea but when introduced to a society like America's where women are seen are significantly less than men and slaves are treated like property, they end up not working as they seemed to on paper. </div>]]></description>

This is mostly due to old people in charge dying by guillotine, even though basic government structure wasn't incredibly different at the end of the revolution. </div>]]></description>

I agree with Jordan, freedom mattered a lot more than their economy. Also, slaves in Haiti did not benefit AT ALL from their flourishing economy.          <description><![CDATA[<div>I agree with what Meagan and Jason because in the end Haiti did accomplish their goal even though they didn't know how to go about their independence. Jason is right as well because it was a lose lose in a way. They abolished slavery but at the end of the day they remained in a similar situation. Also, I think the fact that they were successful so early hurt them because other countries refused to see Haiti as a legit independent state as African were seen as lesser peoples.</div>]]></description>
