Hitt Húsið aims to:

• Provide young adults with facilities and assistance to implement their own ideas.

• Reflect the culture of young adults.

• Provide information and guide young adults to the appropriate professionals and organizations when needed.

• Strengthen the position and employability of young adults in the labor market.

• Be a place for social resources and consultation for young adults.

We who are coming to this seminar are from the Department of Leisure Activities for Young People with Disabilities.

Hitt Húsið offers individualized leisure activities for young adults with disabilities. The main goal is to promote the activity and participation of young adults in their free time, for example in sports, art and leisure, where they experience security and well-being. Emphasis is placed on strengthening self-confidence, independence, and empathy.

On the international level we have participated in inclusive youth exchange projects and mobility of youth workers projects with Erasmus+.

While being open to ideas which serves the same values, some of our goals are to engage individuals and organisations in:

·       Exploring different aspects of art, music, sports and culture through a multicultural scope.

·       Engaging local communities and various stakeholders in the implementation of projects with a strong social impact.

·       Promoting civic engagement and cooperation in an international level.

·       Supporting young people by encouraging them to obtain and utilize skills and competences through non-formal educational tools.

Regarding sports, our team believes that is one of the best ways for social cohesion, especially in small communities. Thus, Delta dyo wants to be the "bridge" between the local sports clubs and the "outer world", in all different fields of grassroots sports (e.g. volleyball, football, basketball but also yoga, pilates, aikido and water sports) and to support their capacity building. Members of Delta dyo who are involved in grassroots sports are promoting the wellbeing of kids and families through sports, in combination with healthy nutrition habits and inner balance.

One of our projects for which we are very proud to successfully realise, is the participatory design & makeover of the schoolyard and playground in Primary School of Marpissa, Paros, Greece. In 2022 Delta Dyo initiated this project, which was realized in a public school in Greece for the first time, based on the vision of a safe space for all children with an eco-friendly, inclusive and overall human approach. The project involved the whole community of students, teachers, citizens and local authorities in a participatory process of creating a school environment which meets the wishes and dreams of the children and the community. International cooperation projects took also place and were coordinated by Delta Dyo. Now the project is going on with activities in the school during afternoons and weekends, focusing in grassroots sports and art expression so as the school to be transformed to a "community place" open to all!
