Losing a loved one

March 9th, 2021. I woke up at about 10 in the morning, I tiredly forced myself out of bed and walked into the living room yawning. I hugged my mama and instantly gained a boost of energy having remembered the fact my aunt and uncle would be coming over for the first time in months! I had woken up clearly at this point and started helping my mom clean up around the house. I could tell I had fallen asleep with my mouth open because I woke up with it dry. I used some mouthwash, which always burns my mouth because of the strong and cold burn of it’s flavor. I continued cleaning up, while I was sweeping my mother had sped past me through the living room, into the kitchen, and over into the laundry room to put the laundry into the dryer. I was walking to my room when I heard her saying, “Oh my God, oh my God, please no!”. I felt chills run down my spine as I hurriedly rushed out of my room towards my mama. She met me halfway, her face red from crying, still repeating the phrase I heard moments before, although she was saying it walking towards me until I stopped her and asked,”What’s wrong? What happened?”. She started crying even more. Then between gasps of air and pulling me into an embrace she spoke,``I'm so sorry baby, I’m so sorry for you!”. I asked her again, almost breaking into tears from worry,”What wrong?”.

I almost wish I hadn’t asked once I heard the response, I felt like I was in a parallel plane of existence, perhaps a dream. That must’ve been it! I tried to convince myself, but I knew it was all too real. She told me,”Uncle Dave was found dead in his room this morning”. She broke down even more. I froze in dreaded realization that’s what the phrase she was repeating was for. I came back to reality and broke down. I hadn’t felt this way before, not even when my grandpa passed away when I was 7. I grew up with Dave almost being like another father figure besides my dad, and now he was gone? People thought I was his kid the way he talked about me. I then tried to snap out of my hurt when I heard my mom say,” I’m so sorry, I have to go there. They said they need me at the house.”. I tried my hardest to hold myself together for my mother and brothers sake. I told her it was ok and that I understood completely, even though I was so lost and didn’t have any idea what to do. She hugged and kissed me goodbye, grabbed her keys and coat, and rushed out the door to the car. All I had on my mind was holding myself together for my brother since mom had to go to Dave’s house and dad was at work. I made my brother food, the smell of chicken nuggets made me sick to my stomach for some reason. I retreated to my room and fell apart as quietly as I could. I had never been more scared or hurt in my life, and this wasn’t just a nightmare I could wake up from, it was real life. My new real life would be learning how to cope one day at a time with this new hole in my heart. It’s been eight months and it still hurts an incredible amount, but I’ve found strength in my family, friends, and God to carry me through it all. I miss you Dave.

The crisp cool air bit the tip of my nose, turning it redder than a cherry. Sunlight glistened on the autumn trees as the quietness engulfed the forest. Gusts of wind swirl the orange-red and yellow leaves, creating a flaming masterpiece. A lone buck trots through the forest as I watch in awe. "It's amazing that nature can create such a picture perfect paradise" I whisper to myself. I start back, walking through the chilly autumn woods.

Corn chowder is very yummy and it smells like corn and chowder so that's cool. My mother has been making it for many years. It is amazing. It has crispy bacon in it and boiled down potatoes. The onions are so good it makes your eyes water. But like in a good way and it tastes like a volcano erupted full of flavor as the corn, potatoes, onions, and bacon form a unique flavor like a new discovery not none to man (and women). Thanks for reading, don't get mad at me please :(

I trudged slowly down the sidewalk, my breath blowing out into the ever so cold air. I paused to let my little brother catch up and to let me try to get my dog to be a smidgen more obedient. As soon as my dog tried to bolt ahead of me, I held tight to her leash, grimacing as the rope-like material left burning rashes where it strained against me, but letting go would mean the cowards way out. A simple, nice walk to the mailbox had been quite annoyingly frustrating. I thrusted my hand out, tugged the dog closer to me, and told her sternly, “No.”
“Why is she tugging so hard?” My brother asked.
I rolled my eyes. My brother always has a hard time grasping some concepts.
“Because she wants to. Now hurry, or we’ll be stuck here forever.”
As the cold air lapped at our hands, I gave the leash to my brother so I could unlock our mailbox.
I gribbed the surprisingly warm key in my hands and jabbed it into the lock and twisted. The door swung open and I began pulling out the letters. And with a whistle, a little white shape hurtled past me, right into the road.
“IVORY!” I hear my brother cry.
I drop the mail, and run along the damp ground. My breath comes out in surprised gasps as a car rounds the corner.
Headed straight for my dog.
I run faster, but Ivory is like the wind - no limits.
The car keeps coming, and passes me.
And stops.
DID IT HIT HER?
I keep running and notice her standing like a deer watching headlights.
I grab her leash and thank the driver for not running her over.
“Is she okay?” He asked.
“Yeah.” I replied, gripping her leash so firmly that it cut my hand.
He drove off, and my brother got the rest of the mail. We piled it into a bag (Ivory whining the whole time) and began the walk home. I sighed and battled against Ivory.
She tugged to get free, to misbehave. I was having none of it. I pulled her closer to my side, she tried to bite me.
I trudged up our house steps, my legs crying out in agony and a thin stream of blood running down my hand.
I take off her leash and she immediately runs off into the house. Seizing the cold phone in my hands, I called up my mother, so she can text our dog trainer.

As I walked up to the restaurant, my heart picked up speed as every little thought slowly flooded my mind with different possibilities of what could happen.

This was 6-8 years ago, I woke up in my room, something seemed odd, so I looked out in the hallway. It was dead silent, too silent, I could only hear the sound of me turning in my bed, and my sheets moving with me. I didn’t like to sleep in the dark at the time, so I kept the hallway light on. But as I was staring into the hallway, a figure appeared. It had a brown blanket on, with eye holes cut into it, and the figure was glowing some sort of yellowish strange light. It walked into the hallway's white closet, even though it was closed, it walked right through it. After five minutes of staring into the hallway, waiting for it to come out, I got out of bed and walked to the hallway. I put my hand on the handle of the closet, I could feel the coldness of the metal handle, I was shaking, and terrified, then I started to tug at it. I opened up the closet very slowly, hearing the creaking sound it made in the silence of night. I opened it up, and nothing was there, just shelves filled up with puzzles and board games, like monopoly. So I got in my bed and went back to sleep, underneath my warm, soft blankets, having a strange feeling for the rest of the night.

The restaurant is nice, with rose candles on every table and greenery everywhere. As I walk over to the table he notices me, his eyes wide, and stands up to greet me. We hug and both sit down. Once we settle he asks me if I want anything to drink, I ask for a glass of water and the waiter brings glasses. We both sit in silence while looking at the menu, glancing at each other from time to time. He puts down the menu. ”I’m so happy you said yes to coming here with me.” He says smiling. I put my menu down too and say,”Me too, I get to go out on a date with THE Dansby Swanson.” I say laughing. He turns red and has a shy smirk on his face. I smile and take a sip of my water and we continue talking.

I stepped off the bus, The crisp cold almost winter air bit my face, turning it red like a cherry. I walked to the sidewalk, passing through piles of autumn leaves, some were a rotting lemon yellow, others as orange as a fresh sunrise on a bright summer day, the rest were just a dying brown on the ground. I walked down the sidewalk, the sun was barely pocking its head out of the clouds. It was a very cloudy day. The air was cold and sharp, like a knife cutting into an apple. I turned the corner, there was a small, alley-like sidewalk, surrounded by trees full of orange and yellow. I walked up the hill, every step ending in a crunch or crackle of the leaves. I walked up to my driveway to my front door, passing the kitchen windows. The sweet aroma of freshly baked bread filled my nose as I unlocked the front door. I opened the door and the sweet scent of the fresh break flew into my nose like a smack in the face. I walked into the kitchen to get a bite. It was a perfect banana bread.I cut a slice, the chocolate melted out of the middle like molten lava and the steam ran out like a marathon. I took a bite, the banana flavor was just perfect, not to overdone either.

Suddenly the crowd leaped from dead silence to exatic yells and cheers that pierced my ear drums.

“We have a chance!” a man behind me screamed at the top of his lungs. He had a beard that looked like it was denying the white and gray overcoming it. His face was painted entirely green with rings of yellow dots dabbed around his eyes. Ugh, WHY?! WHY did the other team have to score! We had four minutes left, the score 2-1 us, until Rodman faked out our center back, leaving a one on one with her and our goalie. That’s never good. Looking at the scene, my hopes dropped to the pit of my stomach, and that’s when the crowd just about broke my ears. If we won, it would be the absolute greatest day ever! We would be sent straight to the finals to play Chicago!

Except, the commentators broke over my thoughts, “WHO WOULDA THOUGHT- GOOOOOOOOOAL!!!” Then all I could hear was the whistle blowing three times in what felt like in slow motion.
