Analysing a Zumba logo by Kerry Keenan (Keenan, 2021)

This logo includes two photos of the instructor which creates a personal touch. In the image on the right, Kerry is wearing colourful clothes which portrays her in a 'fun' light.

The colour scheme of pink and yellow merges well within the logo.

One weakness of the logo may be that it does not look highly professional, however as a Zumba instructor it is important to come across as fun and approachable, and therefore, this may be the reasoning behind this.

This logo is eye-catching because of the range of colours used. The pink, white, black and yellow merge together to create a good colour scheme. Moreover, the 'Zumba' text stands out because of the white colour and the bold font.

The silhouette image physically looks like the instructor and this creates a personal touch to the logo.

The tagline "shake it till you make it!" is punchy and reflects the fun aspect of Zumba.

The image of the instructor dancing in the background with the lights and the smoke portrays the fun aspect of Zumba. The position of the text is placed purposely so it looks like the text is between her hands.

The text is easy to read and the white text stands out against the green and black background.

One negative aspect of the image is that it does not include the official Zumba logo, however it does include the name Zumba (merged with exercise), and therefore, will be recognisable to Zumba customers.

In order to make the logo more personalised, I could replace the image of the instructor with a photo of myself dancing. This would mimic how Kerry (2021) has designed her logo, and if I was to incorporate this, my logo would appear more personable.

Feedback from Allard (2022): The brand name 'Zumbacise' is the most effective because it is short, snappy and rolls of the tongue. Moreover, the name sounds nice in a sentence: 'I'm going to Zumbacise'. Additionally, if people don't know what Zumba is, they will know that the 'cise' part of the name means exercise, and will therefore associate the word with an exercise class.
Most effective logo. The 'Z' and the 'Zumbacise' looks 'clean, simplistic and effective'. The neon colour on the background looks nice, but also create a version with no background and a plain background, e.g. black and white.

This image includes the official Zumba logo, meaning that it will be recognisable to Zumba customers.

The 'Z' overlapping the logo looks aesthetically pleasing.

The logo is not very colourful and may not eye-catching.

Feedback from Allard (2022): 'This logo looks effective because it looks like its' own brand but still incorporates Zumba'. Do not like the font as it looks like a standard font on Word. Try using a blocky font.

Zumbacise (logo design 3)

This logo is a development on the previous image. In order to make the image more eye-catching, I have included an under-lapping image of a Zumba instructor performing a movement.

The movement image looks effective, however I feel the image looks too busy. When developing this further, the image of the woman could be directed further left to not distract from the logo in the centre.

Feedback from Allard (2022): 'This logo looks effective because it looks like its' own brand but still incorporates Zumba'. The woman in the image looks interesting however makes the logo appear 'complicated'. Additionally, because the image is of a man, this 'could alienate men and make them feel like it’s a girls class'.

The background of this image is eye-catching, however I do not think it merges well with the black bold text and the yellow logo.

Feedback from Allard (2022): The name includes the word 'party' and the services you are offering do not involve a party, so this may put people off.
Designs using 'backgrounds, gradients and bubbles look old-fashioned as the current trends are to be simplistic, yet effective'. The 'Zumba' text looks squashed and distorted which lacks professionalism.

This logo is bright and colourful, and the colour scheme works. The official Zumba logo stands out because of the yellow against the background.

Although, the logo is not personalised and this could be any Zumba instructors' logo.

Feedback from Allard (2022): The 'Dance Party!' text 'looks redundant and because it's in a different font, it doesn't tie in with the logo.
The coloured background ties in with Zumba, however to develop the logo, try using no background.

This logo is a development of the previous image. One strength identified when analysing the logo designed by Ford (2020) was the use of the punchy tagline. The tagline represents all that Zumba stands for.

I have created the tagline "shake what your momma' gave you". This is a fun and playful sentence which I have heard both in contemporary music, as well as from Zumba instructors themselves during classes.

This logo includes the official Zumba text and logo and therefore, is recognisable to the Zumba customer.

The colour scheme is particularly dark which does not reflect the atmosphere of Zumba classes. The colour scheme needs to be bright in order to grab the target audiences' attention.

The background of this logo is aesthetically pleasing and the yellow Zumba logo stands out.

The logo is personalised as it includes my first name. Furthermore, my name is fairly unusual and this gives me an advantage, as there will be a limited number of other instructors using this name. On the other hand, Harroch (2016) mentions that it is important to ‘avoid hard to spell names’ and one issue which arises with ‘Zumba with Katiemae’ is that ‘Katiemae’ can be spelled in several ways, and this may confuse customers.

Feedback from Allard (2022): The background looks 'old fashioned'.

The length of the brand name does impact the logo. It should be simplistic.
Using your personal name in a brand name is useful for personalisation, however it 'limits growth'. For example if you opened a franchise and another instructor taught Zumba classes under your name, the brand would not fit.

This logo is slightly different as I have played around with the design of the word 'Zumba'. One positive aspect about the design is that the visual looks interesting to the eye and does not mimic the standard Zumba text that is commonly used.

However, one negative aspect of the different design is that it may not be recognisable to Zumba customers.
