Acts of Kindness by St. Elizabeth

Kindness is defined as the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. Affection, gentleness, warmth, concern, and care are words that are associated with kindness. Being kind often requires courage and strength. Kindness is an interpersonal or "people" skill. It's the way you communicate or interact with people.

Daily School Activities for Kindness

Kindness Team: Create a team of students or make this a specific class project for the school year. The Team creates, advocates, organizes, completes kindness activities for the school.

Kind Designs: Divide students into small groups. Give each group a piece of poster board along with markers and other art supplies to design a kindness-themed poster. Before they begin, have them brainstorm a list of kindness slogans or look up quotes about kindness. Examples include, “Being kind never goes out of style!” or “Kindness Changes Lives.” They can then choose their favorite slogan or quote and design their poster around it. Hang the posters around the classroom, school, or library.

Spreading the Love: On a lined piece of paper, have student's write each classmate's name, skipping 2 (two) lines. Then, write two (2) positive things about each person on their piece of paper. Discuss sentence stems... for example:

One idea I’ve gotten from you is . . .

I really like your personality because . . .

I know I can count on you when . . .

I really appreciate when you . .

Some adjectives that describe you are . . .

I am impressed by the way you . . .

I look forward to seeing you because . . .

Other...

Turn this paper into the teacher for review. Fold the paper and write the student's name. Hand each folded paper to each student to read and keep.

Kindness Bookmarks or Notes: Students research and brainstorm kindness quotes and/or phrases. Using square shaped or bookmark shaped card stock, create a kindness quote or phrase to write and decorate. Then, trade with each other.

Post-it Kindness: Keep different color post-it pads in a convenient place with a set of colored pencils. Encourage students to "notice" acts of kindness or when someone might need a "positive push." have students write a post-it note and stick it to another person's locker or desk.

Infographics: In small groups, pairs, or individually, have students research ways to show kindness or be kind. Locate or draw pictures to reflect these acts of kindness. Create an infographic using:
Easel.ly - https://www.easel.ly/
Canva - https://www.canva.com/

Know Each Other: Expect everyone to make eye contact and greet others in the hallway and around campus with "Good morning" or "Good afternoon." Learn names!

Pledge to be Kind: Brainstorm and discuss ways to be kind. Encourage students to create their personal kindness statement. Then decorate. Tape this creation inside a planner, a locker, on the side of their desk, etc.
"I pledge to be kind..." as the prompt followed by a list of kindness adjectives.

Hands to the Heart: Each student traces their hand and cuts out the shape. Write their definition (or words) of kindness, decorate, then place hands in a heart shape and attach together for hanging in the classroom, on the door, in a prominent place, etc.

String Theory: https://thinkkindness.org/kindness-classroom-activity-string-theory/
