Steve Harmon is sitting in his prison cell. He wants to start writing a script about “This experience”. He goes to court. He meets his attorney, Kathy O'brien, James attorney, Asa Briggs, and the prosecutor, Sandra Petrocelli. Nobody really seems to care about the motion case. During Petrocelli's speech, she calls Steve a monster. The first witness, Jose Delgado, says that he discovered mr. Nesbitt's body after 4:35 and he said that 5 cigarette cartons were missing. The next witness, Salvatore Zinzi, that he was at Riker's Island where a Wendell Bolden who said that he knew a story where there was a holdup and that he turn them in for a break. He also said that he got 2 cartons from the guy. Briggs and O'Brien discredit Zinzi story by saying that he was being sexually harassed and that he would use anything to get out

This part of the book reminds me when Black people were not as equal as white people. They were separated from white people: they weren't allowed to eat at the same place, they couldn't go to the same restrooms and they less importance in front of the law. The judge, the attorneys and the guards don't really seem to care about the motion case, exactly like before.
