Perrault was ahead of his time. The troubling and dark parts of his tales have been outlived by the whimsical fairy tales we know and love today. This end result was reached in part because Perrault purposely tied powerful male characters with morally evil actions, leaving them unremembered and unloved when compared to the female heroines (Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Etc.)

Prince "kisses" a sleeping girl without consent, male character who we are told is good and are supposed to root for (the rescuer) yet is clearly not good. Evidence of satire of delusional male fantasies and bad behavior.
