Many events around the world influenced Stalin and the Holodomor genocide.

1). According to the article Holodomor, "The rebellions worried Stalin because they were unfolding in provinces which had, a decade earlier, fought against the Red Army during the Russian Civil War." Stalin knew from previous experiences, that if he wasn't proactive he may risk the chance of losing Ukraine. He decided to take a series of actions to help control Ukraine by limiting food which forced the country into a famine.

2). The Holodomor museum informs us, "The Soviet authorities forcefully speared among Ukrainian people new customs and new rituals, however, made them renounce their past, forget their origins." Many changes were made after Joseph Stalin took over the Soviet Union's approval of the regime helped him achieve his social, socio-political and socio-economic changes.

3). A Newsela biography about Joseph Stalin reports, "After Lenin's death in 1924, Stalin set out to destroy the old party leadership and take total control." When taking control of the Soviet Union Stalin, removing people from power was one of Stalin's first steps. Those who were stripped of their power were sent to Europe and the Americas.

Generations of Ukraine citizens were affected by the Holodomor genocide.

1). Britannica School pointed out that, "Ukrainian poet Ivan Drach was the first to speak publicly about the famine, in 1986, after the Chernobyl disaster, citing it as an example of how damaging official silence can be." After Ivan Drach spoke up, generations of silence was broken, and the weight of the "secret" was lifted off the citizens shoulders. No longer was their anything forbidding them to speak about it but now there were memorials, a remembrance day, and money put towards research of the Holodomor genocide.

2.) Author Taylor Krawczewski claims, "For decades, Ukrainians could not openly process the national trauma of the orchestrated famine because the Soviet Union would not allow it. Soviet authorities even banned any discussion of the famine, and went as far as falsifying depictions of history such as portraying the famine as a natural disaster that was inevitable." Citizens of Ukraine weren't allowed to talk about the famine and the Soviet Union covered up their actions with lies.

3). The article "The History of Holodomor" concludes, "The Soviet Union convinced the international community “not to see” the mass murder of Ukrainians by means of propaganda, bribes of certain journalists. However, there were journalists who wrote the truth, the reports of ambassadors and diplomats are preserved. The regime took some steps to erase the memory about the murder of more than 7 million of Ukrainians." Many people were convinced by the Soviet Union "not to see" what had happened during the Holodomor genocide. They would bribe journalists and people with propaganda. Those who wrote the truth were murdered but some were preserved. The Soviet Union took some steps to erase the memory about the murder of more than 7 million Ukrainians, however, they were not able to stop everyone from recalling it.
