• The humanities preserve the knowledge of man’s own self which is focused on understanding and pursuing that specific knowledge.
• Gives knowledge to humans in helping improve values that are not means but ends.
• Focuses on the ends of human life to show that they are valuable beings.
• Involves art, literature, music and theater wherein human values and self- expression is utilized
• It is a commitment of values that are true or erroneous that has a perspective on man and the world
• Engages our intellect, intuition, emotion in the field intentionally without apology. Unlike other areas, they are not empirical, objective and factual

- St. John Paul II’s letter to the artists speaks to those who are the “ingenious creators of beauty” even if they are not in tuned to their gifts of artistry, to be stewards in making the life that God created, as a masterpiece while they still live and breathe in the Earth. He implores that every artist must recognize that there is a distinction that while human beings, in its totality, are the architects of their own actions and called to be responsible for their moral values, and an artist who creates/projects meaning from something by actualizing and materializing ideas, thoughts, and emotions from one’s own mind. Furthermore, he stresses that they artists reveal their own personality through their works of art which offers them a new way of communicating and expressing themselves and to others their story and lives. Afterwards, he quotes a Polish poet, Cyprian Norwid, who said “Beauty is to enthuse us for work, and work is to raise us up.” Then references the verses from the Book of Genesis wherein God saw what He created and it was good. From there, St. John Paul II differentiates that “good” and “beautiful” are two distinct concepts that blend together. For one, he tells that “beauty” is the visible form of good while “good” is the metaphysical form of “beauty”. In Layman’s terms, “good” is a state or characteristic while “beauty” is a state of being upon perceived only. Through this, John Paul summarizes that artists have a special relationship to beauty itself since the concept of beauty is bestowed upon them by God as a gift of artistic talent which should be used as a tool to bear fruits (paintings, sculptures, poems, music, etc.) in His service while obligated to develop and master this gift for their fellow human beings and humanity in general to appreciate and find God. 

* The importance of Classical art as a point of reference for the Fine Arts based on the letter
The importance of the classical art based on the letter can be viewed in many ways, such as how articulating its aesthetic and embracing its value of the art to a person. Classical art served as an intuition of man that would help find a deeper meaning to what just lies below the surface area. The mysterious unity and one’s vision of beauty really is important for a person to be value a certain piece of art which indicates a search for one’s true meaning to life. For one to be on a search for meaning can help in molding a sense of creativity. This is very important because this is the basis of what makes a human being. And in the letter, this is what is being addressed so that one can achieve that sense of creativity to shape one’s viewpoint on life. The change of viewpoint will help in connecting our inner self by indulging in creativity for one's rediscovery of the spiritual and religious intuition of the mystery of the Incarnate God and the mystery of man.

When you see a painting or when you watch your favourite sports hero play don’t you find it enjoyable? According to Adler, admirable beauty is a type of beauty that is judges from the appearance of one object. Adler also stated that it is finding beauty in things upon seeing it. This means that it is a type of beauty based on appearance. According to Adler, for something to be admirable the object or thing must look good and pleasing to ones eyes.
 As Adler stated, while judgements of the admiral beauty of objects are the expressions of one’s taste, they are also a measure of objective taste. This means that it is not based on one’s feeling or opinions, but rather facts. This makes admiral beauty a different type of beauty compared to that of enjoyable beauty. This simply means that it pertains to the condition of the object, and not the state of mind of one. Adler also stated that those who begin to see things and objects in a more objective manner see that those that are beautiful may be enjoyable in a universal type of way.   • Adler constantly throws the questions like, what are the things that pleases us or satisfy us and which of them do we consider beautiful? He stated that certain things only pleases us when we attain them. He stated that "It is having them, to use or consume, that pleases us. They please us when they satisfy our desire to have them, not just to see them.". He's saying that we only enjoy certain things visually and not really looking at it more than what the eyes can see. He compared this to a person looking at a painting and only enjoys how it looks without understanding the beauty behind the artwork. He stated that the word "beautiful" must be used for something that pleases us to the highest degree and most exceptionally. One must see the inner beauty of something and use more than the eyes so that one could enjoy and appreciate something even more.
  • When people think about the words "fine arts", people tend to think about the physical art. Examples would be paintings, sculpture and more artworks that can distinguished by the human eye. What people tend to leave out are the arts that can't be seen using the human eye which is poetry and music. Adler stated that, people should not only consider things beautiful if they can see it with their minds but also consider art that can be appreciated with our sense of hearing. We should not rely solely on our eyes to deem something beautiful, we must also use our minds. He stated that not only should we see using our eyes but we should also see using our minds to enjoy art even more so.
  • Kant makes us even more enjoy beauty through introducing us to the kind of knowing that is involved in the vision of the beautiful, "the special kind of knowing that is contemplating or beholding". He said that we must also incorporate a kind of knowing that uses knowing in a scientific, philosophical and historical way. This allows people to see the truth and goodness in what they consider as beautiful. 
  • Every person has their own preference of was they see as beautiful. People also enjoy or have pleasure in certain things. We may see something beautiful or enjoy something and think others have the same preference too. But we do not have the right to impose our taste on others, we must respect people's preferences in what they deem as beautiful.
