Beyond the Classroom, Why Extracurricular Activities Matter for Every Student?

Extracurricular activities are important for students development. These activities are not distractions. In fact, they help students grow as individuals. Through clubs, sports, and other programs, students can learn important skills. They can also discover their interests and improve their mental health. Schools should support extracurricular activities for all students. When students join these programs, they become more confident and responsible. In addition, they learn how to face challenges, work with others, and manage their time effectively. These skills are useful not only in school, but also in everyday life and their future careers. In this text, I will explain three reasons why extracurricular activities should be part of every student’s school life.

First, extracurricular activities help students develop soft skills. These skills include teamwork, leadership, communication, and time management. Students do not always learn these skills in class. For example, when students join a sports team, they learn how to work together and lead others. They also learn to solve problems and make quick decisions. According to a study by the National Center for Education Statistics, students who join extracurricular activities have better social skills and more confidence. These programs give students real-life experiences. They can practice how to lead, speak, and help others. These are important skills for future jobs. Schools should give students a chance to learn outside the classroom, too.

Second, students who join extracurricular activities often do better in school. Many people think these programs waste time. However, research shows the opposite. The U.S. Department of Education found that students who join school clubs or sports get higher grades. They also come to school more often. These students know how to manage their time. They work hard to balance schoolwork and activities. For example, a student in a music club has to plan when to study and when to practice. This helps the student become more responsible and organized. Instead of hurting academic performance, extracurricular activities support it. Students stay motivated and enjoy learning more when they are active in school life.

Third, extracurricular activities help students feel better emotionally. School can be stressful. Students need time to relax and enjoy something they love. Joining a club or sports team helps reduce stress and anxiety. It also gives students a sense of belonging. The American Psychological Association says that students who join school activities feel happier and more confident. They have fewer mental health problems. When students feel good, they learn better. Activities like drama, sports, and art give students a break from school pressure. They can meet friends and feel supported. Mental health is just as important as good grades. That is why schools must offer activities that help students grow in all areas.

Schools should offer many kinds of extracurricular activities. This way, students can choose what they like. Teachers should encourage students to join, but not force them. When students join willingly, they get more benefits. A good school helps students grow in class and outside the class.

Prisinta Auchi Triansyah (19)

Starting school at 7 a.m. is essential for fostering discipline and maximizing students’ academic potential. Early start times help students develop time management skills and prepare them for future professional environments, where punctuality is crucial. Moreover, beginning classes early allows for more effective use of daylight hours, enabling participation in extracurricular activities after school. While some argue that early start times may disrupt adolescents’ sleep patterns, schools can address this by promoting healthy sleep habits. Therefore, maintaining a 7 a.m. start is beneficial for students’ personal growth, academic achievement, and preparation for real-world responsibilities.

With a morning schedule, students are required to wake up early, which naturally instills a sense of responsibility in their daily routines. When students know that they must arrive at school or start their activities early in the day, they are compelled to manage their time better, including going to bed earlier and preparing their belongings the night before. This responsibility extends beyond just waking up; it also teaches students to prioritize their tasks and avoid procrastination. By consistently adhering to a morning routine, students develop habits that support punctuality and reliability, qualities that are essential not only in academic settings but also in future professional environments. Over time, these habits become ingrained, making students more dependable individuals who understand the importance of meeting commitments and managing their time effectively.

A morning schedule also plays a significant role in building a more disciplined soul. Discipline is not merely about following rules; it is about self-control, consistency, and the ability to make choices that align with one’s goals. When students are accustomed to starting their day early, they learn to resist the temptation to sleep in or delay their responsibilities. This self-discipline is further reinforced as they consistently repeat this routine, gradually strengthening their willpower and determination. Moreover, discipline cultivated through a structured morning schedule often spills over into other aspects of life, such as completing assignments on time, participating actively in class, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Ultimately, this disciplined approach lays a strong foundation for personal growth and success, enabling students to face challenges with resilience and a proactive attitude.

Furthermore, beginning the day early can make students more enthusiastic about engaging in various activities. The morning is often associated with a fresh start, providing a sense of renewal and energy after a good night’s rest. When students start their activities early, they are more likely to feel alert, focused, and motivated to tackle the day’s challenges. This enthusiasm can enhance their participation in both academic and extracurricular activities, leading to better performance and greater satisfaction. Additionally, early mornings often offer a quieter, less distracting environment, allowing students to concentrate better and accomplish more. As students experience the positive outcomes of being proactive and energetic, their overall attitude towards learning and personal development improves, fostering a lifelong love for growth and achievement.

Based on the research, it is suggested that schools maintain or encourage morning routines and early start times, as these can improve students’ focus, discipline, and academic performance. Morning routines also foster time management skills, reduce stress, and enhance students’ overall productivity and well-being.

Thiya putri meisyari XI-1 /24

Extracurricular Activities are Not Necessary!

Extracurricular activities are additional activities outside school hours organised by educational units (usually schools) to develop students' potential, talents, interests, abilities, personality, cooperation, and independence. Usually this activity held at the end of the week and ranges from 1-2 hours, depending on the type of extracurricular activity being participated in. I believe that extracurricular activities are not necessary at all, some students feel that participating in extracurricular make them tired after whole day at school.

First, extracurricular activities make students feel exhausted and lead them to illness. Extracurricular held on the end of the week, where students feel very tired after a long week of school. Students need time to rest and they shouldn't have activities added. If they're having extracurricular activities, of course they'll be tired and don't have much time to rest. It will lead to stress and overwhelmed and make students' health and mental disturbed.

Second, extracurricular takes students' time. Some kind of extracurriculars take so many time to do. Participating in many extracurricular activities means that students must be ready to sacrifice several things, such as rest time, energy, and mind. One risk that is often overlooked is poor time management. Extracurricular activities are time-consuming, and students' time management skills will be put to the test. Sometimes students can late to go home. Students' time for study, do homework, play, and rest are taken by extracurricular activities.

Last, extracurricular activities can impact students' academic performance. Students who actively participate in extracurricular activities will take up study and rest time at school. In addition, many students participate in more than one extracurricular activity. This will make students become unfocused in learning, making their academic performance will decrease. Not to mention, assignments that should be completed faster are hampered due to extracurricular activities.

In conclusion, I suggest that schools should make a policy that extracurricular activities are optional. By making extracurricular activities optional, many students have the freedom to choose whether to participate or not, so those who participate in extracurricular activities must have considered their abilities and are willing to sacrifice more time, energy, and thoughts. Schools should also limit how long the activities last, monitoring the exercises or activities carried out do not burden students. With all that, everything becomes more balanced and no one is burdened.

Andin Dwi Salsabilla (01)

Why students should begin school early

Discourses about early school entrance hours are often discussed among students. Some students feel that the morning school hours are difficult because they are still sleepy, have not had time for breakfast, and are not ready to study. Nevertheless, there are not a few students who actually feel more focused and are able to absorb the subject matter better in the morning. With both sides in mind, it is important to re-evaluate the benefits of the morning school hours. Despite certain challenges, these schedules still offer a range of significant advantages that can support a more effective, structured, and rewarding learning process for students.

Firstly, starting school at 7 a.m. can help students become more disciplined in managing their time. When students are used to waking up early, they begin to understand the importance of preparing themselves in the morning and following a consistent daily routine. With this routine, students tend to go to bed earlier at night, reduce unproductive activities, and make time to have breakfast before going to school. In addition, they are encouraged to manage their study time, rest, and leisure more wisely. All of these habits train them to take responsibility for their own time. In the long run, this will shape a disciplined character and improve their time management skills—abilities that are essential not only at school but also in everyday life. Although adjusting to an early schedule may be difficult at first, the positive habits that develop from it will bring great benefits to students' overall growth.

Secondly, implementing school hours in the morning can help maintain students' mental health. When students know that school starts early, they are encouraged to adjust their sleep schedule by going to bed earlier. This habit helps them get enough rest at night, which is essential for emotional stability and overall well-being. Lack of sleep can lead to irritability, anxiety, and difficulty concentrating in class. On the other hand, when students follow a consistent sleep routine, they wake up feeling more refreshed and better prepared to face the day. Moreover, having a structured morning routine can reduce the stress of rushing to school or arriving late. This sense of control and readiness can improve their mood and confidence. In the long term, good sleep habits developed from early school hours contribute positively to students' mental health, making them more focused, calm, and emotionally balanced throughout the learning process.

Moreover, with the rule of starting school at 7 a.m., students can carry out their morning activities more optimally because they tend to be in a better mood to learn during the early hours. Studies have shown that the brain is more active and alert in the morning, making it an ideal time for absorbing new information. Students who begin their day with school can take advantage of this mental freshness to focus better and participate more actively in class. Additionally, morning school hours allow students to start their day with productive habits, such as morning exercise, having breakfast, and reviewing lessons before class begins. These routines not only improve physical health but also prepare the mind for learning. Compared to afternoon classes when students may already feel tired or distracted, morning learning sessions can be more effective and engaging. Therefore, early school hours support better academic performance and personal discipline.

In conclusion, schools should maintain the 7 a.m. start time because it encourages students to build discipline, maintain good mental health, and make better use of their mornings. Although it may be challenging at first, the long-term benefits for students’ academic performance and personal growth are truly worth it.

Harja Salman Alfarysi (XI-1)

School entry time is one of the important elements in the education system that affects the teaching and learning process. In Indonesia, most schools set the school entry time at 7 a.m. as the standard. This rule is related to various factors such as time efficiency, avoiding traffic jams, and people's habits. Despite the pros and cons, this rule is still widely implemented. I agree with the idea of the need for students to go to school at 7 a.m. Therefore, it is important to understand the advantages of the 7 a.m. school entry time.

First, go to school early means go home early. Go to school early allows the learning time to start earlier, so that all teaching and learning activities can be completed earlier as well. If students start lessons at 7 a.m., then the lesson time that usually takes 6-8 hours will finish around 1-3 p.m. This gives students more time in the afternoon to rest, take lessons, extracurricular activities, sports, resting, chatting with friends or family, and can also study independently at home. So, the earlier the start of school, the earlier the return time, without reducing the total learning hours that have been determined.

Second, go to school early to avoid traffic jams. The variation of school entry time in Indonesia at 6.30 to 7.30 a.m. is the school's authority to set the hours of teaching and learning activities in the school. For example, one school management took the initiative to propose a change in school entry time from 7.15 a.m. to 7 a.m. The reason was that all schools in Sukabumi City entered at the same time at 7.15 a.m., resulting in traffic jams everywhere and many students were late for class. For this reason, it was proposed to trial the school entry time to be advanced to 7 a.m. so that students could leave home earlier and avoid traffic jams.

Third, go to school early require us to wake up earlier. The habit of waking up at noon, it will be difficult to wake up early. Getting to school at 7 a.m. helps build the habit of waking up early as it forces students to adjust to an earlier schedule. This improves discipline, prepares the body and mind for daily activities, and supports healthier sleep patterns, so students tend to wake up earlier naturally. Waking up early gives students more time to prepare themselves, both physically and mentally. They can do useful activities before school, such as a healthy breakfast, reading, or exercise. Therefore, this rule is important to build our habits to be better.

Getting to school at 7 a.m. is a rule that has many advantages for students: it allows students to leave early and have free time in the afternoon, but it also helps avoid traffic jams and practice good morning habits. These habits can improve student’s discipline, health, and readiness to learn. Therefore, the 7 a.m. school entry time should be maintained as it has a positive impact on teaching and learning and student’s lives as a whole.

Ihtisham Lutfun Nisa Z (07)

LET'S ATTEND EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES!

Students have their potential and talent. The potential or talent is not only about math, science, or another academic feature. There are various talent that students have, like art, singing, taekwondo, debate, dancing, paramedic, traditional music, and many more. These potentials shouldn’t be buried because of the lack facilities and limited time. Some of the talents are not provided in the daily teaching and learning activities. Teachers don’t teach taekwondo regularly. Teachers don’t teach music to students every day. Students don’t learn how to sing every day. That’s why students should attend extracurricular activities. From it, they can get many benefits to improve their life.

The first benefit that students will get is developed leadership skill. There are many behaviours that a leader should has. Some of the behaviours can be obtained through extracurricular activities. One of them is discipline. A leader should be responsible and on time. When the extracurricular activities have their own schedule, students should obey the rule and attend the meeting. This will train the responsibility of the students. Another way to train the leadership skill in students is by making an organization structure of the extracurricular activity. The mentor of the extracurricular activity should guide the students to decide who the leader of the extracurricular activity is. The students should be given a chance to decide their own leader and another component that are necessary. By this way, the members of the extracurricular will have an equal opportunity to learn to be a leader. So, these are way extracurricular activities can develop students’ leadership skill.

Secondly, extracurricular activities allow students to express their talents and develop them. As we know, different students have different talents and potential. These potentials will be wasted if students do not have any good place or community to develop them. Why should students develop their talents? When they develop their talents, they will gain more confidence and achievements. Students will have a better chance of success in the future because they work on their talents. Other than personal reasons, when students are willing to develop their talents, they will be good citizens for the country. Their skills will become provisions for society in the future. The skills will be beneficial to himself/herself and the people around. For example, if someone joins a debate extracurricular, he/she will develop his/her speaking and negotiating skills. These skills will help him/her to live in society.

Finally, extracurricular activities provide much knowledge. In daily class, students study math, English, geography, and many academic materials. Teachers barely provide practical knowledge, such as problem-solving and public speaking. To overcome this situation, students should not be passive. Students should be active to increase their knowledge beyond the ordinary class. One of the places is extracurricular. Extracurricular activities teach students about what skills that is necessary in the future. Let’s take a look at some examples. Not every curriculum in schools provide traditional dance training. So, through traditional dance extracurricular, students can develop their dancing skills and preserve local culture. Another example, school barely teach students how to do first aid practically. If students attend Red Cross extracurricular, they will gain knowledge about it.

In conclusion, we finally know how important extracurricular activities are. There are so many benefits that will support the life of students if they attend extracurricular activities regularly. It is really important to develop our potential and talents, and one of the ways to do it is by attending extracurricular activities regularly.

David Darren (03)

Discipline in Wearing Uniform

School is an institution in carrying out teaching and learning activities related to the education process. Schools as formal educational organizations have the responsibility to improve the quality of education, as formal educational organizations, schools are very identical to things that demand discipline. Each school has a school uniform that has been determined and regulated by the respective school leaders. A school uniform is a standard set of clothing worn by students in an educational institution. It is usually chosen and required by the school or school district and serves as a dress code for students during school hours or at school-related events. The importance of school uniforms lies in their ability to create a sense of equality among students by eliminating visible socio-economic differences and fostering a cohesive and focused learning environment.

First, Uniforms help improve discipline and safety in the school environment, as well as facilitate student identification by teachers and staff. Schools officially have rules regarding the use of school uniforms for their students with various reasons that school uniforms is a tool of discipline, neatness and orderliness of students in carrying out education. Through school uniforms, it is also a form of discipline and does not differentiate between students who are diverse. This can be seen from the behavior of students, namely dressing untidily, wearing modified clothes, which are contrary to school regulations, examples that are often done such as changing the size of the school uniform from long to short, so that the shape of the body is visible, wearing excessive makeup, pants are tucked in, and are not neat.

Second, Uniforms strengthen school identity and foster a sense of pride and togetherness among students. In Brutscher's (2020) study, it was found that wearing school uniforms can strengthen students' identity and increase their involvement in school life. Wearing a school uniform can be a badge of honor when it is associated with a positive school ethos that emphasizes pride, discipline, and a sense of community. Wearing school uniforms also includes increasing the sense of equality and unity among students, because everyone is dressed the same way and no one stands out based on their clothes.

Third, For some families, the cost of buying and maintaining uniforms can be burdensome, especially if the material or model is expensive. Especially if the school enforces a certain uniform, it can be a burden on the budget of low-income families. Uniforms can cost more than regular clothing, especially if the school also requires special equipment such as shoes or blazers. If school uniforms are expensive, it can be a financial burden for some families. This is what makes parents of new students object to the sale of uniforms at school. For lower-middle class people, this is a burden so parents should be able to get and buy uniforms from anywhere. Purchasing school uniforms can be a financial burden for some families, especially if they have multiple children attending the same school. The cost of uniforms, in addition to the cost of regular clothing, can put a strain on the budget of economically disadvantaged families.

From the reasons and facts above, it is clear that students should wear school uniforms to go to school because it has more advantages. Schools that wear school uniforms must pay attention to the economic conditions of their students, so that no one feels burdened. In addition, schools can provide relief in the use of accessories to express themselves, self-image, and increase their comfort in learning. In conclusion, students should still wear school uniforms because it shows their identity equally.

Fatimah Azzahra Erfansyah XI-1/05

School starts in the morning which is at 7 am, maybe not ideal. Because at 7 in the morning many students are still sleepy and still tired because at night there are those who have to do their homework or other busyness.

Disturbing sleep time, school starting activities from 7 am, may make students feel that their rest time is disturbed or less focussed on lessons, many say that early sleep is very good for the body's health. But teenagers now really need 8-10 hours of sleep to be more focussed and to prepare themselves for school.

Learning is not optimal, because students go to school in a sleepy state can make students' concentration disturbed and many students fall asleep or do not sleep during the lesson.

Interfering with important activities, namely travelling and breakfast, starting school at 7 am, all students wake up at 5 in the morning to prepare themselves to go to school, the breakfast session of students is sometimes crowded so some students do not have breakfast, the journey to school also some students have to travel for a long minute and have not been stuck in traffic jams, besides that makes students feel lazy and sleepy too, so it is less effective to go to school at 7 am.

According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), teenagers need 8-10 hours of sleep every night, but school at 7 in the morning makes the average student only sleep 6 hours or less.

Layla Erika Vany Irawan XI-1 (10)

Today, so many school give long schedule for their student, from monday until friday, many homework and very late going home time.It can be seriously problem because student don't have many time for do activity and refresh their mind from hectic schedule in school. Therefore I absolutely agree with the rule that government give much break time for student.Beacause Student can gets many benefit of long break time.

First,Student can more focus when they get long break time in school because they doesn't fell pressure with hectic schedule in school.According to https://www.recessguardians.org/post/design-a-stunning-blog ,Academic programs in schools can be rigorous for students, and keeping up with a set curriculum leaves little or no time to devote to recess. Children may learn better if they are given an adequate break. Regular breaks help them stay focused when they are on the task.

Second,Long break time in school can improve academic skill student because student can more relax from lesson in school and they doesn't have pressure when they learn.Increasing the amount of recess at elementary school results in greater academic performance, including those all important test scores. Physical activity optimizes brain performance by expediting deliver of oxygen to the brain.(https://info.mayrecreation.com/blog/11benefits-of-increasing-recess-at-elementary-schools)

Third,Student can refresh their mind when they have long break time in school, with hectic schedule in school of course student must have enough break time. According minds.https://www.recessguardians.org/post/design-a-stunning-blog,Kids spend a lot of time doing scheduled activities at school and at home where they’re expected to adhere to rules. And although children benefit from a schedule, they also need free time to explore their own ideas and process information. Kids tend to have a ton of energy, and it’s important to schedule downtime into their day to dissipate that energy. Recess and lunch are mostly the only time that kids actually get to free their minds.https://www.recessguardians.org/post/design-a-stunning-blog

Recommendation

Actually, break time so important to student when they learn in school,if they don't get enough break time they will get heavy pressure. I suggest if government really want to add break time in school, don't add just a few minute like 3 or 4,better they add 10 minute for break time in school.

Miko Avin Dermawan 12

Why We Need a Long School Break Time?

School break time also known as a recess is a time used to rest for students and teachers. Recess usually in the middle of the morning or afternoon around 15 minutes and 55 minutes so students can take a break by eating, drinking, praying and playing with their friends. From my point of view, a recess needs to be long. Students and Teachers should have enough time to continue the lesson.

Firstly, Recess can reduce stress from lesson because students are busy with subjects without a break. According to Recess Guardian, recess is needed for students because it can rest their minds by doing activities freely. Recess is very much needed to refresh their brains by doing activities they like such as eating, playing, or exercising. A break time and lunch are the only time they can use to free their minds.

Secondly, recess can strengthen their relationship between friends and teachers. With recess, students can freely chat and play with friends, they can also talk to teachers outside of the school subject. Recess Guardian said that, recess can be a time where students can get to know each other. Time in class will not be enough to build a good relationship between students and teachers. In a simple way, the relationship between friends can improve by getting to know each other, chatting, and playing together. So, recess is very much needed to strengthen the relationship between students and students, as well as students and teachers.

Thirdly, in the middle of the afternoon students have a 'Big break time' around 45-55 minutes. Students take advantage of this opportunity to do worship, especially for Muslim students to do dhuhur prayer. Universitas123 said that long breaks can be used for worship. Students need long breaks so they are comfortable to do worship and eat lunch without being rushed for time. Students and teachers should have the freedom to do worship according to their religions without being disturbed by time and lesson.

So, I would suggest that students and teachers need a long break time. They need to refresh their minds, improve their relationships, and have the freedom to do whatever they want to do. Recess is important as long as it is in positive way without breaking school rules and does not harm themselves or others.

Zaskia Kusumaningrum (26)

Students should wear school uniforms 👔

Every school worldwide mostly requires uniforms for students to wear to school. Besides being a place for education, schools also function as institutions that shape students' character and identity. One frequently debated aspect is the use of school uniforms. But is wearing a school uniform really important? The answer is yes.

First, by wearing a school uniform, students' identities and roles within society or groups become easier to recognize. School uniforms help build a stronger school identity. Differences in colors at each grade level assist the community in monitoring students' behavior outside of school. Jason Wing, headmaster at Neale-Wade Academy in Cambridgeshire, England, said that the most common perception of the importance of school uniforms is that they serve as a symbol of pride, create school identity, and become a part of the students.

Second, students who wear school uniforms do not need to think about what clothes to wear every day, so their time and energy are not wasted on that. This allows students to focus more on their lessons rather than their appearance, reducing distractions caused by fashion trends or social pressure to look cool at school. According to an international study by Chris Baumann and Hana Krskova, students who wear uniforms are better able to pay attention to lessons and show higher levels of discipline compared to those who do not wear uniforms.

Third, school uniforms provide significant cost savings for families, as found in the NAESP survey, where 86% of principals stated that uniforms are more affordable than regular clothes. This cost efficiency occurs because uniforms reduce the need for many different outfits, which are usually influenced by fashion trends or peer pressure. Additionally, 90% of principals noted that uniforms make shopping easier for parents, simplifying the process of buying school clothes and saving time.

School uniforms are important because they build identity, reduce distractions, and save family expenses. With uniforms, students focus better on learning, and parents find shopping easier. Therefore, schools and governments should ensure uniforms are affordable and encourage uniform exchange programs to help less fortunate families, so that uniforms effectively support students’ education and character development.

(Qinarawida Ramzya Alya/20)

As we know, many schools start in the morning. In general, schools in Indonesia start between 6.30 — 7.30 a.m. This time is considered ideal for starting learning activities. I agree with this idea. Actually waking up early and starting school in the morning provides many benefits for students.

First, an early start time allows students to do after-school activities. Starting school early, like at 7 a.m, makes students go home early. Early home means that students can do their homework on time. The rest of the time can be used to do after-school activities. They can use the rest of their time to do activities they enjoy such as exercise, play, do hobbies, or other activities.

Second, early start time can improve comprehension. When school start early, we need to wake up early. Some studies have proven that our cognitive function, like memory, focus, and analytical reasoning are sharpest in the early hours. This allows students to concentrate and understand the material more easily. Our brain are at their best to absorb new information, making learning more effective and efficient.

Moreover, starting school in the morning can increase productivity. By starting the day with a learning activity, students can set a tone of productivity for the whole day. This can help students direct their energy towards things that are positive, rewarding, and insightful. This habit can also reduce feelings of rushing or stress due to time constraints.

Going to school at 7 a.m. has many positive impacts on students such as free time, increased comprehension, and increased productivity. Therefore, I suggest implementing a school schedule rule in the morning.

Naila Putri Fauziyah (15)

As a students, of course you're familiar with some information about the times for students in other countries attend to school. Some students in the other countries were attend school at 8 a.m or later. As In Indonesia, the students should be already at school or should attend school at 7 a.m. This rule were made to train students, so they can become a discipline and diligent students, but there are several things that need to be consider, so the rule for school's attendance times should not be that early.

First, school rules for students to go to school at 7 a.m, can make students doing something in rush to avoid getting punished at school. So they often forget to eat their breakfast, this can cause many students to had stomach ulcers and stomach pain, when they already eating breakfast, because they're not used to eating breakfast before school, so when they start to eating their breakfast, they can felt the pain in their stomach after eating the breakfast. Not only that, skipping breakfast can decreased the concentration of students and lack of enthusiasm or motivation to learn and studying on students.

Second, the rules for students to got to school at 7 a.m, can also cause students to feel less ready to learn the new material that they should receive, because most of them still feeling sleepy. So, this can causes decrease the concentration on students too. So, they weren't listening at their teacher's explanation at school, because they were too sleepy and they got lack of motivation or enthusiasm on studying.

So I suggest, that every school in Indonesia should add more times for students to attend on school or changes the school start times, so with that students can have time to eat their breakfast and prepare their minds to receive the new learning material, so they can be ready and fully concentrate on the learning and studying.

Eke Margaretha Avrianti (04)

WHY DO WE GO TO SCHOOL AT 7 AM?

Many schools require students to arrive at school by 7 am, and this rule is not made without careful thought. It is based on several important considerations aimed at supporting students academic and personal growth. Starting school early helps build a strong sense of discipline and responsibility among students. It also helps reduce the chances of being late due to morning traffic, allowing students to arrive on time and begin their day in an orderly manner. In addition, earlier school hours allow students to wake up earlier, which will create good habits for them in the long term and daily routines.

One of the main reasons schools start at 7 am is to instill discipline and promote better academic behavior in students. According to a study published by the Journal of Educational Psychology, students who adhere to a consistent early start schedule demonstrate significantly higher levels of self-regulation. This means they are more likely to plan their time well, complete assignments punctually, and come to school prepared. Early start times help students develop the habit of waking up early, which fosters a sense of responsibility. Moreover, schools that begin earlier tend to report better overall classroom behavior, with students being more focused and less disruptive. Teachers have also noted a reduction in tardiness and fewer disciplinary issues. By getting a head start in the morning, students are more alert during the first few hours of school, when many core subjects are taught. Thus, early start times create a structured environment that supports academic success and character development.

Another key benefit of starting school at 7 am is the improvement in transportation safety and efficiency. The U.S. Department of Transportation has reported that staggered school start times can significantly reduce traffic congestion during peak hours. When schools open at 7 am, they avoid the typical 8 am rush hour, which is often marked by heavy traffic, longer commutes, and a higher risk of accidents. As a result, students are less likely to be involved in traffic related incidents, and buses or personal vehicles can reach school on time without delays. This also reduces stress for both students and parents, especially those who have to travel long distances. Additionally, avoiding rush hour helps reduce carbon emissions by shortening travel times and minimizing idling in traffic. Therefore, starting school earlier not only enhances student safety but also contributes to a more environmentally friendly and organized school transportation system.

Starting school early also contributes to students health and cognitive development. Health and behavioral research from Harvard Medical School suggests that consistent early wake up routines help regulate students’ internal clocks, improving their sleep quality over time. Maintaining a regular schedule trains the body to become alert earlier in the day, boosting mental clarity and productivity in the morning hours. Students who wake up early are more likely to eat breakfast, which is essential for maintaining energy levels and concentration during school. Furthermore, forming these habits at a young age helps instill a lifelong routine that supports both physical and mental well-being. Unlike irregular wake up times, which can lead to sleep disorders or daytime fatigue, early rising has been linked to better emotional regulation and reduced stress. Therefore, encouraging students to start their day early through a 7 am school schedule lays the foundation for healthy routines that benefit them throughout life.

Therefore, schools should continue implementing the 7 am start time, as it promotes discipline, improves safety, and supports students’ health. Parents and educators should work together to help students adjust to early routines, ensuring they get enough rest and start each day ready to learn and grow.

Yusufu Hadid PRABASWARA /25

School uniform rules and policies have been in place since the early days of education. The wearing of school uniforms has been adjusted based on the school level of each student. The existence of this rule raises many statements as well as questions. One of them is whether it is true that wearing a school uniform can determine the identity of each student? Certainly yes, and this identity is a very important thing with that this rule is believed to instill the value of discipline for each student. The many pro statements against school uniform regulations cannot cover the cons that have emerged. Freedom of expression is one of the reasons, so that the rules for wearing school uniforms become a topic of debate in various circles, ranging from students themselves to some people who have finished their education. While some argue that wearing school uniforms creates an orderly and disciplined environment, others argue that wearing school uniforms can limit individual and student freedom of expression. However, this rule of wearing school uniforms must be obeyed by students, I myself as a student agree with it, why is that?

First, the rules exist so that they can be obeyed and carried out properly for each student, especially in the school environment. Indirectly, the rules for wearing school uniforms for each student can increase self-order for the students themselves. Orderly carrying out the rules then he already reflects a disciplined student in terms of dressing. This compliance also trains early disciplinary habits such as getting up early to be ready, keeping clothes neat, and ensuring complete attributes. Indirectly, this rule creates a disciplined and responsible mindset. This mindset will definitely be beneficial for the rest of life. When the school uniform rule is enforced, students do not need to think about what clothes to wear when going to school because the school uniform rule has been enforced so that students can focus more on their learning and social life in the school environment. In addition, uniforms also reduce the potential for dress code violations that often occur if students are given the freedom to choose their own clothes. This also has a good impact on teachers, so that they can also focus more on the teaching process of teaching their students.

Second, as self-identity. The rule of wearing school uniforms is not only a marker of which school he is in, but can also create a better individual identity of the students. Such as strengthening togetherness, students are indiscriminate towards other students so that they can respect each other. In addition, it can create solidarity between students, can reduce social gaps, and create a more harmonious atmosphere. The identity that has been embedded because of the rules for wearing school uniforms can be the main reason for the emergence of disciplined attitudes, manners and ethics in the school environment. The wearing of school uniforms also helps shape the positive attitude of students in the community so that this can make the alma mater proud and the community can judge how the quality of the school itself. This further encourages the ethics of each student. Now that sense of pride can be obtained from inter-school activities, competitions, seminars, or any activities related to school symbols. Therefore, uniform rules are not just clothes that are required to use, but also as one of the processes of positive identity formation during the growth period of students.

Last, a sense of comfort must be possessed by every student, in any aspect. One of them is when students study. With school uniforms, students do not need to worry or be confused when choosing clothes when going to school. so that it can reduce the feeling of pressure on appearance. this can create a comfortable atmosphere and in the end each student will be more focused on the lessons learned. the implementation of school uniforms also provides a sense of security and equality because all students wear the same clothes regardless of clothing style, economic background and so on. each school uniform is also tailored to the activity at hand so that students don't have to worry about what to wear. this helps provide an identity for all students. when students wear uniforms every day, it indirectly teaches students about an organized lifestyle. school uniforms are like work clothes for students, it can distinguish learning and leisure time for students, thus helping students form a more disciplined and responsible mindset.

My advice regarding the wearing of school uniforms must be carried out in an orderly manner, because the positive impacts obtained are also many and minimally detrimental to the students, after all, the wearing of school uniforms can make the students' lifestyle more orderly and disciplined. Therefore, although the rules for wearing school uniforms have caused many debates regarding freedom of expression, school uniforms are still considered an important element to create a positive educational atmosphere.

Rahma Lokahita (21)

The Importance of Attending Extracurricular Activities in School

Thesis
In today’s highly competitive and rapidly evolving world, merely excelling in academic subjects is no longer sufficient for students to thrive. Extracurricular activities are not optional luxuries—they are essential components of a well-rounded education. Schools that fail to emphasize and encourage participation in extracurriculars are producing students who may be academically competent but socially, emotionally, and ethically underdeveloped.

Argument 1
First, extracurricular activities foster critical life skills that the standard curriculum often neglects. Teamwork, leadership, communication, resilience, and time management are cultivated more effectively on the sports field, in student councils, or during debate tournaments than in a traditional classroom setting. By sidelining these opportunities, schools risk raising individuals who are intellectually sharp yet emotionally unfit for real-world collaboration and decision-making.

Argument 2
Second, these activities provide essential platforms for students to explore their identities and passions beyond academic labels. In a system that frequently reduces students to grades and standardized scores, extracurricular engagement allows room for creative expression, innovation, and personal growth. Neglecting this aspect of student development is not only an educational failure—it is a moral one, as it stifles individuality and potential.

Argument 3
Third, involvement in extracurricular activities has a direct correlation with improved academic performance and psychological well-being. Studies consistently show that students engaged in such activities demonstrate higher levels of motivation, reduced stress, and stronger school attachment. To dismiss extracurriculars as distractions is to ignore the evidence that they, in fact, strengthen a student’s holistic educational journey.

Argument 4
Lastly, schools that do not actively support extracurricular participation are perpetuating a system of inequality. Students from marginalized backgrounds often rely on school-provided extracurricular programs for access to opportunities they otherwise would not have—be it scholarships, social mobility, or mentorship. Ignoring this aspect widens the gap between privileged and underprivileged learners, undermining the role of education as an equalizer.

Recommendation
Therefore, schools must urgently reevaluate their priorities and place extracurricular activities at the heart of their educational philosophy. Administrators, teachers, and policymakers should not treat them as secondary, but as integral elements of a student’s development. Investing time, resources, and encouragement into these programs is not optional—it is an educational imperative.

In Indonesia, many schools require students to start at 7 a.m., and this actually raised debates about the effectiveness. Some people say it is too early, but I strongly agree with the policy. Starting school early builds discipline, prepares students for a real-life routines, and improves focus everytime. These benefits are important for students development, both in school and in their future careers. Therefore, I believe starting school at 7 a.m. should continue and even be encouraged in all schools.

Starting school at 7 a.m. helps students build discipline by encouraging them to wake up early, get ready on time, and manage their schedule better. According to Kompas.com (2021), 82% of schools reported that students became more punctual and responsible when school started earlier. In my own experience, wake up early helped me avoid rushing and allowed me to prepare anything more condusive for the day. Early routines help students practice consistency and time management. This habit will be useful for both academic life and future professional responsibilities.

Going to school at 7 a.m. trains students for the real world, especially the working environment, where most jobs start early. DetikEdu (Aisyah, 2021) shared a study where 67% of college graduates said early school routines made their job transition easier. I’ve seen older siblings adapt quickly to work life because they were used to wake up early during school. Early school time prepares students mentally and physically for adult responsibilities. It teaches commitment and builds strong habits that very important for our body energy.

Students who start their day early tend to have sharper focus and better test results. Tempo.co (2020) reported that students taking exams before 10 a.m. scored 15% higher than those testing later. I often feel more alert and productive in the morning, especially after a proper breakfast and rest. Morning hours are proven to make our brain’s most active in everytime. Starting school at 7 a.m. allows students to make the most of their mental energy.

To support early school start times, schools should help students adjust by promoting healthy sleeping habits and reducing unnecessary homework. Parents also should guide their children to sleep earlier, so they can wake up with fresh face. Teachers can plan morning-friendly lessons to keep students engaged. With the right support system, starting at 7 a.m. will benefit everyone. Let’s keep this routine and make it work better for students.

Selly Noeriza Aurelia XI-1/23

Every school around the world, including Indonesia, requires its students to wear school uniforms. School uniforms are clothes worn by students in educational institutions as a form of identity and are a symbol of being part of a community. Each school, especially in Indonesia, has its own unique characteristics. Particularly for high schools, which have uniforms consisting of white shirts and gray skirts. Some schools also provide alumni jackets as an indicator of a student's origin.

In addition, school uniforms can also be the foundation for the emergence of a sense of unity among students. From school uniforms, a sense of unity will be created without regard to race or ethnicity from a particular region. At school, all students wear the same clothes with the same colors and patterns. Not only is it a symbol of unity, but also a symbol of equality, where all students are the same, regardless of where they come from. School uniforms create a level playing field for all students by eliminating visible differences in clothing that can highlight socio-economic differences.

School uniforms not only become symbols of equality and unity but can also be an economic burden for underprivileged families. Where the initial goal of school uniforms is as a symbol of equality and unity. However, on the other hand, not all parents are able to buy school uniforms, which makes it difficult for underprivileged parents to purchase uniforms. The increase in uniform prices from year to year adds to the financial pressure on parents, especially at the beginning of the new school year when education costs peak.

School uniforms can train and increase a person's level of discipline. In addition to complying with school regulations, students must also wear uniforms and complete attributes before entering school.

Name : Aurelia putri kirana

Class :XI-1 (2)

You must feel bored when studying in class for too long, where you only see, hear, and write repeatedly. Sometimes, it feels boring, right? Well, that's why after the lesson is over, you will have activities called extracurriculars. There you are free to choose which extracurricular activities you want to follow that suit your personality and hobbies. With extracurricular activities, you can release all your burdens by doing what you like there. You can follow extracurricular activities such as soccer, volleyball, debate, cooking and others.

In my opinion, joining extracurricular activities is also very important. Because, you can hone your skills in non-academic fields. You can also get more friends and learn to be more cooperative. Also, it can form your discipline and responsibility in carrying out extracurricular activities.

Even experts say that certain potentials sometimes do not emerge in the classroom, but can be seen when students are active in activities such as art, sports, or organizations. This is certainly an important means of forming a complete person.

They also said that not all potentials can be seen in class lessons, so additional activities like this can be a place for students to find what they like and are good at. It can be seen when students are active in activities such as art, sports, or organizations. This is certainly an important means of forming their character.

Therefore, we are required to take extracurricular activities to hone our abilities outside of lessons.

Niken Kusuma A./18

School uniforms are clothing used as student identification in educational institutions, both public and private. Every country in the world has its own provisions regarding school uniforms for its students, especially for elementary and secondary school students. School uniforms are intended to eliminate differences between students. A student cannot be stylish and show off their fancy clothes at school. A student is forced to appear like other students. In this uniform policy, there is also discipline teaching for students. In certain schools, students are punished if they violate the school uniform provisions.

First, the use of school uniforms is related to discipline. Discipline in schools is not taught formally as in military education, but is placed within the framework of broader societal patterns and behaviors. Discipline must start from the most basic level, namely the household. Parents and family members must be the vanguard who serve as role models for students to be disciplined for themselves and others. Discipline must be carried out as a responsibility, not as indoctrination. Discipline is not just a formality through school uniforms, because school uniforms are not an elementary element in the national education system.

Second, school uniforms are meant to eliminate differences between students. A student cannot be stylish and show off their fancy clothes at school. A student must look like other students. In this uniform policy, there is also a discipline teaching for students. In certain schools, students are punished if they violate the school uniform provisions.

Third, one of the main reasons why students, as well as some parents and educators, dislike uniforms is that they limit a student’s individuality. Clothing is a key element of a student’s personal style and a format for creative expression. Hilfer reports that older students are particularly hostile to uniform requirements. This criticism is especially true if the school desires a creative and expressive culture where students are free to think critically. Uniforms encourage and reflect sameness.

The implementation of school uniforms has a positive impact on students and parents. Where the impact that will be obtained is that it can provide identity and reduce competition or social status gaps. The implementation of school uniforms can be more effective and help students in various aspects.

Kezya Shafa Rizania XI-1/05
