Lingua Franca means second language. Krio is spoken by 96 percent of the countries population and unites the different ethnic groups of the country. Krio is the primary language of communication among the people in Sierra Leone at home and abroad. The Sierra Leone Creole people is a community that are descendants of freed slaves from the West Indies, Canada, United States and the British Empire. That is why the language is much influenced by English.
