Analysis: I went over to Laughlin Nevada during the summer as a little vacation. While on my way over there we stopped by multiple stops to take pictures like so. I really enjoy this picture I took because It looks like something you could literally find off the internet.

Although Gallien tried to persuade (pg. 7) Christopher into all the danger and difficulties he was getting himself into, but unlike any ordinary person, Christopher was unnavigable and isolated himself from help & his loved ones and scattered (pg. 6) off into the snow.

Analysis: I really enjoy how we already know that Christopher has died, but we are barely diving deeper into how he has died by reading this chapter. We dive deeper into how McCandless started off his journey and who was the first person to help him along his journey aka Gallien.

It was obvious that Christopher was meandering (pg. 10) down his own world. The implication (pg. 12) is that Christopher's body had no wound marks and he must've most likely starved to death. The bus was given an oxidized (pg. 10) odor since Christopher has been opaque (pg. 11) in his sleeping bag since he starved to death.

Analysis: I find it quite interesting that McCandless was diseased for a while in his sleeping bag and it was so odd that multiple parties found his diseased body all at the same time. It's also very interesting in this paragraph because we find out he dies of starvation. This attracts my attention immediately because earlier in chapter 1 we find out that he donates his money to a charity.

It was very clear that Christopher was emancipated (pg. 22) since he changed his name and just took off from his family at a young age. Regardless Christopher made it affirmation (pg. 21) between his parents and him that he would be on the road for a while which unfortunately lead the young man nomadic. (pg. 19)

Analysis: In this chapter, I find it Interesting that Westerberg is so fond of McCandless. He wanted to help the boy out as much as possible by offering to buy him gear, money, and more. He even offered him a job that tremendously benefited him later on.

While on his on-foot journey he came across a canoe which he purchased to provision (pg. 33) his way through the water. McCandless was quick to make it clear he was emasculated (pg. 32) through each harsh encounter. Although McCandless is happy in the situation he's in, he tends to veer (pg. 29) quite often.

Analysis: McCandless's beloved Datsun that he so very much loved was found abandoned in a dry riverbed. It's so odd that McCandless talked about never trading that car in or getting a new car so it's strange seeing how he left it abandoned.

McCandless's employees confront him about his lack of smell, which then he quiets and walks away since he can't tolerate (pg. 43) issues. Although McCandless had multiple and many hands to grab for the support he espoused (pg. 44) in doing things on his own, his way. Christopher meets Charlie after quitting McDonald's and decides to extend (pg. 46) his trip and stay with Charlie for a bit. Like always McCandless could never stay still for a while and traveled frequently (pg. 45) which in this case he headed towards Jan Burres & her boyfriend. McCandless got a bit comfortable where he was at and was attentive (pg. 45) towards a football game that gave away where he's from.

Analysis: I find it interesting that in this chapter you start to notice more that after McCandless leaves whoever has taken him in, or helped him, he's damaging them. After each new milestone, he leaves a new person that has grown attached & fond of Alex. It's sad seeing that McCandless has yet to realize that because he pushes himself away from his problems and is too focused on his Alaskan journey.

Already knowing how McCandless handles his problems it's obvious to say he wasn't delighted (pg. 51) & tried avoiding the question. It was no surprise that sooner or later McCandless will depart (pg. 54) from Franz like he did with the plenty of other people who grew so attached to him.  It was just so much heartbreaking seeing Franz trying to evade (pg. 55) from all that he has been through. Yet again McCandless takes off, but towards Westerberg this time. McCandless remains immaculate (pg. 59) throughout his journey & remains happy & positive which definitely kept him alive longer throughout his great journey.

Analysis: After leaving countless of people who helped him, Franz had the most damaged done to him. Franz fell heavily connected to Alex and wanted to adopt him after he went through loosing his family & falling to whisky. McCandless never really truly realized the damaged he has done to the plenty of people he left, but with Franz it was so much more meaningful & sad.

Westerberg & the narrator noticed that McCandless didn't have many relationships with females, nature titillated (pg. 66) him more than females. Before McCandless took off he partied and played the piano that really shocked everybody because everyone thought McCandless would always be idling (pg. 68) across countries.

Analysis: I found it interesting that McCandless isolated himself from relationships. Multiple people like Westerberg have complimented the young man by saying he's handsome, but yet McCandless finds himself attractive to nature. He sees females as more of a distraction from reaching his goals.

For the people who supported McCandless, they might have said or even noticed it was inevitably (pg. 80) between him and the 3 men. Although some people describe McCandless as a too-familiar type & thought of him as a lunatic, he was a very sinewy (pg. 76) educated man. Unfortunately, all 4 men heaped (pg. 70) in all terrible accidents.

Analysis: You can see why Krakauer & other people as well have noticed parallels between Gene Rosellini, Carl McCunn, & John Mallon Waterman & McCandless. They were all intelligent men who had it out for themselves. They just ended up taking the wrong move towards their journey which cost each of their lives.

Many have said that Ruess & McCandless along with the other 3 men all had deliberately (pg. 90) chosen/ known their fate was from nature. Many have said that Ruess was incendiary (pg. 91) by a team of cattle rustlers and then proceeded to bury his gear or toss in the river. Although all the 4 men had a lot in common with McCandless& some might even say all their destinies were meant to be, it's just so eerily (pg. 92) they were all taken by nature & in such an unfortunate way. It's fascinating (pg. 95) finding out that Ruess & McCandless went through literally similar events & confined (pg. 94) areas that unfortunately lead to their deaths. 

Analysis: It's amazing that McCandless has so much in common with Ruess from his actions. They were both intelligent young men who went to college, but quickly dropped out and moved into the wild. It's odd finding out that both men changed their names, they were both tracked down by their parents, and many more.

With the news very little description of the body found, Jim knew for a fact it was probably McCandless's body need to get in contact with state troopers (pg. 98) to identify the young man since he had no source of identification like social security (pg. 101). Westerberg called up the troopers and gave them McCandless's real social security that he had written down as "228-31-6704" in which the troopers finally believed him since as their consequence (pg. 100) of making the story public. Sam Chris's half brother heard of the strategy but never occurred it would be his relative but once seeing pictures Sam can right away determine it was Chris's gaunt's (pg. 102)  body.

Analysis: After not hearing from Mccandless in a while it was no coincidence that the word quickly spread. Jim Gallien & Westerberg were a huge help in identifying the young man. Chris's half-brother Sam was also the very final person to confirm that, that young diseased man was indeed Chris McCandless.

Walt kept his first marriage and family a secret from Chris which led to constant arguments and fights between Billie & Walt which led to Chris's foreseen (pg. 116) on his journey and never coming back. We find out that due to this Chris becomes very close to his sister Carine & becomes attached to camping. Chris was often quiet and wasn't very crooning (pg. 110) but this chapter widely expresses all the success Chris also had like his father. Even throughout Chris's success stages, he was raving (pg. 113) towards his Alaskan journey.

Analysis: We dive into McCandless's other members of his family and see why McCandless was the way he was and did the things he did. We can confirm that he was;t really good at facing problems so he would always run from his problems in which he did after college after finding out about his father's secret with another family.

After graduating high school & going to Emory college, McCandless unusually (pg. 121) expressed himself and seemed more open in college as he would write for the school newspaper. McCandless was subsequent (pg. 121) towards hitting the road in his yellow Datsun. We quickly uncover that Chris finds out about his dad Walt having another family across town, which is the reason why Chris decided to take off in the first place. Although his parents respected (pg. 118) his decisions they were far from knowing his reasoning. Chris indicated (pg. 125) to his parents his plans here n there for after school but they never thought too much because they would always think we would always get back to them but that was never the case once he left.

Analysis: I find it quite interesting that we dive Into McCandless's background information right before he heads to college. The main thing I find interesting is that the main reason why McCandless leaves and heads out after college is that he found out about the second family his dad kept from him. I believe if Walt would have addressed this beforehand Chris wouldn't have handled that situation like so and would have been more cautious on his trips and got in contact with his family.

Carine saw pasts her brother's constant criticism (pg 129) and adored him for who he was and his love for nature. Although once Carine got a hold of Chris's remains that he had and got the news that he died, she was very hysterical (pg. 130) & quickly lost her appetite (pg. 131) once figuring out how he died. 

Analysis: We see Carine's viewpoint on how her beloved brother died and how she got the news. I find it very shocking and heartbreaking that both Carine & Billie lost their appetites and lost a couple of pounds after finding of about Chris's death.

After Krakauer arrives in Alaska he tried many attempts but failed to climb The Devils Thumb & even found himself extricating (Pg. 139) himself from falling into the thick layered snow. As Krakauer was unaccustomed (Pg. 142) to the weather he was starting to get worried if the weather would delay his package due to the weather being unapparent (Pg. 143) and he might starve.

Analysis: I find it interesting and unique that the author was very similar to McCandless when it came to the outdoors. They both traveled to Alaska, got help from strangers along the way, & Krakauer even worried about his starvation while trying to complete The Devils Thumb.

He mistook (Pg. 155) the burning smell for his cooking oatmeal but manage to put out the fire in time before spreading even more. The hole left from the fire left the tent to drop about -20 degree's in which Krakauer was so cold that he thought that metastasized (Pg. 150) would start to occur. We come across that Krakauer's relationship with his father only spirals downhill over time due to Krakauer not going to Harvard Medical School like his father wanted him to. After his dad's failed suicide attempt Krakauer made it priority & aspiration (Pg. 147) to achieve The Devil's Thumb. After several failed attempts again Krakauer finally veered (Pg. 148) & achieved the top of The Devil's Thumb.

Analysis: It's like the more chapter's we read now the more that Krakauer has in common with McCandless. Now we find out that just like McCandless, Krakauer's father is the reason why he heads towards the wilderness and finds himself in Alaska just like McCandless.

Belatedly (Pg. 165), McCandless was behind schedule and had to wait a couple days for a ride till Stuckey showed up. Stuckey explains to Krakauer that McCandless talked about his family but mostly had a proposition (Pg. 170) about his sister Carine & Father Walt. Stuckey grew so fond of Chris's companionship that he decided to drive him the whole way. Stuckey tries to speculate (Pg. 169) McCandless in calling up his parents but instead gets no response. McCandless then buys a plant book & a gun which he later uses to scrawl (Pg. 163) & mark up. McCandless is then picked up by an old buddy Gallien who drops him off and is where he begins his Alaskan journey. McCandless falls through the ice in a forded (Pg. 171) but emerges quickly. Finally on May 1, 1992 McCandless uncovers the bus which he jots down "Magic Bus Day." McCandless decides to stay in the bus but has troubles doing so in the Spring but towards the Summer he does much better as he records everything in his diary he had.

Analysis: I find it so shocking and spine-chilling that this entire time McCandless was so close to civilization and he could of avoided this if he would of gotten a map. If only McCandless would of had a map he would made it out alive like Krakauer.

Krakauer goes on to find easy crossing on a map & is utterly (Pg. 175) with McCandless's way of any usuage of maps. Krakauer trying to retrace McCandless's steps brought a map that tremendously helped out which indeed means McCandless was incompetent (Pg. 185). Krakauer took the obviously safe basket towards Chris's bus & comes across all the remains of the animals, including the moose that McCandless killed that many people mistaken for  a caribou. Although McCandless's skeleton remain of the moose he killed was elusive (Pg. 186) to figure out he was correct in shooting a moose. Krakauer enjoyed looking through the modicum (Pg. 184) that McCandless had left behind & knew from the gifts that people gave McCandless and the people that McCandless met that he wasn't malevolent (Pg. 176). Krakauer and his crew used the same tools McCandless used to cook his meat while they talked about the young mans death. While talking about the young man's death Krakauer brings up that McCandless is very much compared to John Franklin.

Analysis: Krakauer finally visits where Chris died to relive the possible causes and trace back everything he did. I find it so interesting that Krakauer looks like a detective going in and savaging for all this information about McCandless for his book.

Since Chris stood no chance at crossing the river and had no map so he heads back to the bus where he hunts and write his remaining notes. We find out that McCandless becomes emaciated (Pg. 199) by 3 possible conjectures (Pg. 189). One a wild Potato, two the seeds, or three did he mix the seeds for wild sweet pea. McCandless had a adequate (Pg. 188) of seeds which he consumed due to his starvation (Pg. 198) which is one reason people think caused his death. Krakauer doubts that what's killed McCandless since he was very intelligent & had a book all about plants. McCandless knew he wouldn't do anything to harm the wildness even if it was his life on the line plus no small average fire will spiral (Pg. 195) enough for aircraft's to see so Chris left behind his beloved remains that he had left.

Analysis: We dive into one of the weirdest chapters and the last chapter as it explains the probable causes towards McCandless's death. There are three possible causes of Chris's death and they are all greatly supported by information on why that might be so. For example, he might of gotten ill from mistake the seed for a wild pea seed.

It was very difficult & hard (Pg. 203) for both Billie & Walt to take in so much after so long and finally see the place their son last stayed in. Although Walt did say it had its beauty so it was no appeal (Pg. 202) that Chris chose this place to stay, which was anomalous (Pg. 202) to his parents by this point. Billie sitting where Chris was found, admires all the remains that Chris left behind & even picks up Chris's old ragged jeans and gave them a big sniff & told Walt in a confided (Pg. 201) & warming way it still smelled like their boy. Walt installs a memorial just inside the door of the bus & beneath that was a first aid kit with a note saying to call your parents.

Analysis: Chris's parents finally go visit where their son's body was found with Krakauer. They arrived by helicopter and had a peaceful & warming encounter with the bus Chris was found diseased in. Walt builds a memorial for his son Billie assembles a first aid kit with a note telling the next hikers who come across this path to call their parents. It's spine-chilling seeing what Walt & Billie do but yet it's so heartwarming.

Krakauer makes discovered that it was indeed the seeds (Paragraph 4) that poisoned McCandless since he didn't know they become poisonous during the winter. Although McCandless did spent 113 (Paragraph 1) days in the wild killing for his survivor, it's relieving to finally know what really weakened (Paragraph 7) McCandless to starve to death. Krakauer sends in the potato seeds to get tested to confirm the poison. Krakauer discovers that the poison was L-canavanine (Paragraph 9) which is what harmed and ate up McCandless's insides since he was too weak & skinny to recover from it & not beta-ODAP (Paragraph 6) which causes muscle weakening.

Analysis: Krakauer's curiosity & determination lead him to figure out the truth about how McCandless's death. To be completely honest Krakauer's actions were a huge help towards the novel & especially himself since he spent so much money plus time towards figuring the truth on how McCandless starved to death since he was very well educated and smart to die of hunger.

I've grown to the conclusion that as a kid I loved vacations but slowly grew out of that phase since I'd hardly gone on any but now I realized that as I'm older the excitement of traveling has built up inside me and is eager to burst at any given moment. Over the last couple of years, I was fortunate enough to travel a lot more & was fortunate enough to go to Laughlin, Nevada with my cousin over the past two summers. Ever since my first trip to Laughlin, I was instantly hooked & since then I thrive on traveling now. The feeling of going to new places & exploring new areas while making memories I'll forever hold is something I see myself doing in my future odyssey.

Although I do quite often get homesick when on vacations, only when I'm on vacation with my relatives or family members is when I don't feel homesick. I enjoy the feeling of excitement rushing through your blood every time I go to new places, & keep in mind it hasn't been that long since I started traveling so there's been very limited areas I've been to. When I'm done with high school, I plan to mix my two passions traveling & skating as a way to achieve my goals. I can travel to various new places on my free time and bring my board along the journey to skate new areas as I travel to. As I'm getting older and progressing in skating I see myself exploring new places in my near future while skating new spots and making memories along the journey. While my odyssey is still a work in progress, I definelyt see myself in the near future working to achieve these two goals of mine.

Although I do despise McCandless from time to time for thinking he's the priority and having no pity towards how he leaves out of people's lives & just walks away from his problems. Regardless of his stubbornness, I admire McCandless's goals and what he was trying to accomplish since it was a very difficult task that ordinary people couldn't fulfill. I guarantee 3/4 of people couldn't have done the accomplishments that Chris has done, from leaving his pretty well-stabled life to chasing his goals which if you really stop to think about it is something most people wouldn't risk. Chris donates his 24k to a hunger charity & refused a brand new car which clearly shows McCandless has a heart, he just handles his problems his way with the help of nobody. Although I do give props to him for actually going out and fulfilling his goals, he did hurt a lot of people that helped him along the way. I get that McCandless was driven towards his goal & it drove him eager every step of the way, but he was too darn focused on himself that he never realized all the people that he left scared. In the end, I still find myself still on the neutral side when it comes to Chris. Yeah, I admire him for his bravery and following his heart, but I can't get pasted the people he hurt from leaving his sister, Franz, his parents, and many more.
