What do you collect? And why do you collect it? There might be things you collect by yourself, or with family and friends. Some stuff you might have a lot of, and other things just a little. Let’s think about all the different ways we collect.

We collect various account books of local associations called "Ko", or 講 in Japanese. We are taking pictures and creating a database of the items brought to us by the locals. The account books of Iseko are featured in our collection. Iseko has been one of the typical associations for those who want to Ise Shrine, and people have gathered money through the association for pilgrimage to the shrine every year for a long time. These materials, which are in danger of being discarded, are valuable resources for understanding past community lives.

I collect abstract paintings of living artists. I purchased my first painting, an enormous 5' x 5' work when I was in my 40s. It required quite a financial sacrifice at the time, but I felt compelled to own a real painting. I visited the artist's studio, examined every painting and, finally, the last painting she showed me spoke to me. I've owned it for almost 30 years and I have never tired of this bright abstract work and I never stopped collecting. Even now, with very little wall-space left, I collect. My personal space is a comfort; it is challenging; it is a place where quietly I enjoy visual excitement.

I am obsessed with the idea of having life-lasting items. I am particularly fascinated by the story behind each piece. I recall where I purchased them and the occasions I wore them, each memory accompanied by distinct emotions. When I accessorize with these items, I often remember how I felt on those specific days and the moods associated with them.

I collect Resident Evil memorabilia and merchandise. The collection is a way of me creating a physical representation of how much I love the RE games, and also gives me the opportunity to meet and talk to other people who share my love of the franchise. Whilst some is, most of the merch I own isn't official Capcom merch, but are instead items that I've bought off of people at conventions. This makes me love my little collection more than if it was all official merch because it's a collection of items created by various people who are passionate about the same gaming franchise and decided to do something creative with that. It might seem kind of silly and trivial in comparison to collecting more ''serious'' items, but it's something that I have fun with!
