Always maintain respectable and friendly relationships with all of your teachers, no matter the subject or interest in the class. As a freshman, it may seem unimportant and unnecessary, but as your time in high school progresses, it'll become more evident as to how important strong letters of recommendation can be. I also find that being friendly with your teachers makes class more easy-going and bearable. Lastly, teachers talk...so having a bad reputation amongst one teacher can lead to a shaky first impression with another teacher later on.

Senioritis is real, even before your senior year comes. But the more you're absent, the more work you miss and this eventually leads to missing assignments and dropping grades.

Join clubs that interest you in order to connect with people that have similar interests. This is a good way to make friends in different grades that could give you more advice for starting high school

Don't surround yourself with friends or groups of people who don't have any interest in progressing. Surrounding yourself with people who have zero ambition will eventually rub off on you, and it's harder to break out of this cycle than to just avoid it all at once. Also, being around people who study and strive to succeed just motivates you and makes it easier for you to do the same.

Constantly checking Power School to make sure you are not missing something or grades have no mistakes is important. If something is wrong or unclear on Power School, you can ask a teacher.

Always send respectful emails to teachers when communicating about your grade, something you didn't understand in class, a concern, etc. Teachers will sometimes give you leeway if you approach them in a professional and respecful manner and show that you want to improve.

Try to come to school as much as possible for the first 3 marking periods. That way during the end of the year when coming to school gets hard, you can use those days since you didn't waste them early on.

You should always have a black, blue, and/or red pen. It is fun to have colorful pens and pencils, but you might have papers where you need to use more professional colors.

Have an organized bag and don't see folders as an option. Organization is key when it comes to getting your work done, and that includes having an organized bag. Be sure to have folders for your classwork and think about investing in dividers to section of different classes.

Have a plan for how to balance make-up work and current work when you have to miss school.

If you forget to write in your agenda frequently or can’t get in the habit of going back and looking it over add the assignments in you reminders on your phone as well because it’s probably more convenient than you won’t keep forgetting about assignments

Don't go over board on how many supplies you bring to school, remember you are gonna have to hold it all around the school.

In high school, especially freshman year, everyone wants to have popular big friend groups. Let me tell you, as a senior, every friend group I saw in my freshman year has broken up somehow. Some change in size and a decrease of almost half. You need to make sure that the people you are hanging around make you comfortable and that you trust them. Trust and loyalty are very important things that many people tend to forget exist.

Keep your outside life and school life separate from one another. The worst thing you can do to yourself is allow yourself to slip up with your work because of something that fogging up your brain. Focus on having fun, being happy, caring for yourself, while also maintaining a healthy work balance when it comes to school.

You are the one responsible for your grades and the only one who knows if you need help. Even if you don't want to speak up for yourself your teacher will never say no to helping you understand the information more.

It is easiest to create a bond with a teacher if you are attentive during class hours. For example participating, asking questions, turning assignments in on time, greeting the teacher when you enter the room etc.

Surround yourself with friends who care about school and are on top of their assignments. This helps you become a better student. You also want to be around those who want better for you and themselves.

If you are absent make sure to provide a doctors note or some type of valid note that excuses you from the absence. Or even have your parent or guardian email attendance office so you dont get marked cut.

dont be that person who is constantly asking ¨yo you have a pencil? ¨ But it doesn't look good and makes you look unprepared. I was always big on having supplies because when it came to note-taking, it was very important to me to have everything hands-on deck. It was also because sometimes I just didn't feel comfortable with the pen or the pencil that my friend let me borrow. They always gave me the ugliest pencil that erases weirdly and leaves a red mark when you're done.

In order to limit how many items you carry to school I would recommended getting a accordion folder.

As tempting as skipping a half day can be, it still counts as a full day. If you think you can skip without it eventually catching up to you, it will. Go to your classes, especially on time, and if you have to be absent, you can excuse your absence.

Trust me when I say, save those days. People would stay home during the beginning of the school year, and so when the end came and everyone else started skipping, staying home, having fun..... they had to be in class.

Try to make it to class on time and not walk in late. 5 tardies = a cut and not only does it show you teacher your irresponsible but it also effects you attendance and will result in your dean emailing your guardian.
