Previewing refers to an activity that initiates student thinking about what the students will encounter in class. This is also beneficial for students who don't have any background knowledge on the topic because they will be able to activate related knowledge. This will allow them to create links between new and previously learned content.

KWL stands for know, want to know, and learned. First, the class brainstorms information that is already known about the topic. When they get to the "W", they record the information they want to learn. When the students get to the end of a lesson they fill out the "L". This explains what they learned.

Technology Enhancement - Students can use their Chromebooks to create and manipulate their own KWL Chart.

These are all excellent strategies to use in your classroom. You can pick and choose depending on your grade level and content that you teach. I like to use the word splash activity when introducing new social studies or science terms. This allows the student to think about previously learned terms and link them together. I also like to give preview questions because this gives me a starting point of what my students know and do not know.
