         <description><![CDATA[<div>I pay attention to their conversations and moods, so I can tell when they are stressed, overwhelmed, etc. Then, I can dial back or crank it up based on the vibe they are giving.  They trust me to be consistent in applying policies, consistent in my demeanor, and flexible when they need it.  You just have to be nice to kids even when they aren't being nice to you.</div>]]></description>

         <title>I use humor. It helps break down walls and draw kids out of their shells. If I can&#39;t make a kid laugh it often times is a good indicator I need to check in with that kid to make sure everything is alright.</title>

         <title>Roll Call Question</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I like using a Roll Call Question when taking attendance. Each day pose a Q to your class, and when you call their name, they will respond with their answer rather than the standard "here!"  I always start the first few times to ease anyone being put on the spot initially.  Questions should be things that are "low risk" such as "Fave Food."  Once your students get more comfortable, you can increase the risk, if you want, or keep it low key.  My Ss have enjoyed this procedure and roll call questions have helped up get to know each other quicker.  Students enjoy sharing out, too! </div>]]></description>
