There are three main characters, Brick, Cal, and Daisy. They are all teenagers. Everything was going fine one day... Then, everyone they saw tried to kill them for no reason. They all start out alone, then Brick starts a chat on a forum, and asks people about what happened. Cal and Daisy reply to Brick saying the same exact thing happened to them too. They all meet up to try to figure out what has happened. As they discover their potential, they are threatened by many different challenges. This book turns from a traditional zombie survival book, to a supernatural and science fictional story.

"The only thing I know is that I'm desperate for a can of Dr. Pepper. Everything else can wait. | You know that stuff is poisonous, nothing but sugar and chemicals. | I know, but if I can survive today, I can survive a can of fizz" (Smith 681). I like this part, because even after all that they went through, they still have a sense of humor, even if it's small.
