However, I have felt a sense of sadness for the last year and a half, especially, and I want to leave that dark cloud behind in 2020. I mainly focused on Zoology in my bachelors and spend as much time with animals as possible! This picture is from an event I went to where we got to interact with and study some reptiles! This specific guy was named Clyde! I have worked with all sorts of animals, both alive and dead for different research projects. My first job ever was at the Museum of Nature and Science here in Denver where I volunteered as a summer camp counselor and helped guide students through dissections! Gardening and growing as much food as I can is a passion of mine. Observing the innate intelligence of plants is fascinating to me. I have a backyard full of perennial berry bushes, fruit trees, and tons of annual veges to snack on during the growing seasons. I know that is cheesy, but I have known so many teachers who just see it as a job and really do not take the time to connect with the students.

My partner Rory and I call each other "goose" and "bug." I don't remember exactly how it started but I know I called him a silly goose and he thought it was funny since it is kind of a juvenile thing to call someone. It eventually got shortened to goose and it has somehow stuck! He calls me bug because of my work with bugs but also because if it were up to me it would be chilly all the time and I would have to be all wrapped up in a blanket or something, like a bug in a rug. What has happened will change each individual and it's not going to alter the normality of everyone's life the same. It is going to alter each individual and the way they exist will be different for every single one of us. My favorite way to 'vacation' or spend some time relaxing is backpacking! Especially in the Wind River Range in Wyoming. Times like these are where I learn most about myself! Spending time with lots of literal and figurative space is important to me to be my best self when I am home/working/at school/etc. My favorite form of self-care! The only nickname I’ve every had was my last name. I used it when I was younger and in my first go around at college. I’m happy to be getting married so I can change my last name lol.

Hockey

I have played hockey almost my whole life! The Colorado Avalanche are my team, however, I am a fan of the sport first, my team second. Hockey has always been an avenue for me to collaborate with others and when needed, be a leader. Gabriel Landeskog, above, represents the best aspects of leadership and I aspire to be as good of a leader as he is on the ice when I am in the classroom.

I try to live an eco-conscious life so much so that in my family, they know not to throw away wrapping paper and constantly say "reduce, reuse, re-cYcLe!" while doing something they know I'd like- like properly recycling.

I want to leave behind the notion that we will ever "return" to how things were, the naive belief that the planet isn't burning and our societal systems aren't broadly harming vulnerable people. But I want to do this with the optimistic hope that we can build a better future with equity and support for everyone.

My young niece couldn't say Aunt Allison. Darn alliteration! So, she called me Assy. My mom, dad and sister still call me Assy. My niece is now 22, yet the unfortunate moniker has endured.
