Treats others the way you want to be treated

- This expectation would include encouraging my students to use polite language, taking turns, sharing, and listening respectfully.

Follow all instructions

- Students should follow all instructions promptly and accurately. This will help me as their teacher maintain order and have classroom instruction run smoothly.

Show responsibility

- This can be done by doing simple tasks such as cleaning up after themselves, managing their school supplies, and completing assignments.

Actively participate during instruction

- Students will be encouraged to participate in discussions, ask questions, and do activities. This helps students stay involved and retain information better.

Work together with peers

- Students will be encouraged to work together during activities and play time. Students will sometimes be paired together for activities to help social skills and learn cooperation.

School Year Communication Plan

It is important to me to keep consistent communication with my students' parents/guardians throughout the school year. I like to provide parents/guardians with school and classroom updates, curriculum information, field trip information, student-parent opportunities, etc. I am always willing to talk to parents/guardians about anything regarding their child in my classroom. Here are some ways that I like to stay connected:

Classroom Website/Online - This is the easiest and quickest way of staying updated on what is currently going on in the classroom. I will check back and update parents/guardians consistently throughout the year online.

Direct Messaging - I am always available through my phone for parents/guardians with any concerns about their child. The app I use is called is ClassDojo. I will send home instructions on where to find this app and how to set it up.

Conferences/Meetings - These will happen less often than other forms of communication. I can set up a meeting at any time through a parent/guardian's request, but the meeting will be set for before or after school. Otherwise, I will set up mandatory meetings two or three times during the year. I will give prompt notice before doing this and can work with any parent/guardian on scheduling.

Phone calls - I like for all of my students parents/guardians to have my direct phone number just in case it is needed. Sometimes I may not answer right away, but I will always return your call. I want to be available whenever I may be needed. My phone number is XXX-XXX-XXXX.

It is crucial that teachers maintain a good relationship with students and their families. This good relationships can help create a supportive and and effective learning environment for students. Here are couple of the ways to build strong relationships and how they align to enhance student learning:

Open and Consistent Communication

This happens when teacher share regular updates with families on their student's progress. Teachers should also encourage families to provide feedback or ask questions when they are in need.

Keeping consistent communication helps keep families informed of how their child is doing during instruction which keeps families involved in their education. This also creates a bond of trust between teachers and families.

Culturally Responsive Practices

This is done by showing respect for other cultural backgrounds of families. Teachers can also recognize and celebrates cultural events and traditions with the school community.

This helps create an inclusive environment where all students feel valued and seen. Children will also be able to see their cultural values reflected in their learning.

Field Trip Chaperones -

Parents/guardians will be given opportunities to come along on field trips with their child during the school year. Families will also be asked to help ensure all students safety and to help manage the group. Any parents who are interested will be provided instructions for volunteering.

Help in the Classroom -

It is always great to have parents/guardians volunteer their time within the classroom. This is encouraging to their child as well as a big help to the teacher during activities.

Afterschool Activities -

Schools are always in need of help during after school activities. These activities can range from simply watching a group of students on the playground to helping a group of students academically.

Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) -

We are fortunate to have a PTO at our school. This program is available to all parents/guardians of students at our school. Being involved in the PTO can have you doing many things such as raising funds for the school, planning school events, involving the community, etc.

The Importance of Family Involvement

Family involvement in a student's education does amazing things for that students learning. Family involvement enhances academic learning for students such as better test scores and grades. Families who are involved often further enforce learning at home.

Family involvement also helps promote better behavior and attendance for students. Families tend to have a positive influence on a students discipline as their student is more responsible and accountable for their actions.

I will always encourage families to be involved in whichever way they can for the sake of their student. The positive impact of this involvement is too great to ignore.
