Parking issues

Apartment buildings have very limited parking which causes congestion and aggravation. People are towed for parking in disabled or reserved parking at any hour. This is unfair because these complexes lack enough parking for their own residents and commercial storefront tenants. People are forced to park all over taking up the sidewalks and parking in front of homes. There are many motels and housing which lack proper parking facilities. This discouraging for visitors and residents as it's always a hassle to find a safe place to leave your vehicle. Removing the amount of towing regulations, requiring that complexes have adequate parking space for residents and store tenants would relieve the stress and congestion.

traffic congestion

Fast food restaurants can be seen on every side, corner and lot in the S State St area. These restaurants being in such close proximity to each other and major intersections and corners create traffic congestion. The lines usually extend out on to the major road (state st) blocking the flow of traffic. This also shows that the area is very urban and commercial. Regulating the amount of restaurants and their locations would help or creating more lanes or road space would curb the traffic congestion.

Liberty Wells neighborhood

I chose this area because I often have to drive pass for work or school. The area has a bit of everything such as schools, apartment buildings, homes, government buildings, shopping malls, churches, grocery stores and more. The area has heavy traffic flow and sees various kinds of people daily. When I began observing the area I noticed several deficits: lack of parking facilities open to the public or tow free, abandoned buildings, lack of speed bumps and crosswalks, lack of parks. The neighborhood always has heavy police which was almarming because it signaled some sort of safety deficits. While taking pictures, I was mistaken for a night worker which also told me something about the neighborhood. On the contemporary, I had good conversations with other residents and was able to ask more about the neighborhood.

Parks

This the only park I found in the immediate neighborhood. It does not look very fun and enticing for kids. I have not seen kids near this park or playing on it. There are kids living in the area but it lacks proper recreation centers and parks.

Speeding

I spoke with some residents walking their dogs and they mentioned speeding in the area. The roads are wide and receive lots of traffic due to the government building on the corner. The lack of speed bumps enables the traffic to flow through at high speeds which residents find dangerous and unsafe. Adding speed bumps would help to regulate the speed of drivers and make the area safer for residents.

lack of crosswalks

As I drove around I noticed a lot of people walking their dogs or going for walks. The issue that stood out was there were limited crosswalks at traffic intersections within the neighborhood. There were some that obviously connected blocks or major roads but this road in particular directly being the government building (Westminister Ave). The lady in the photo was almost knocked down by a vehicle speeding through the corner. Due to the lack of crosswalks, she had to wait patiently for the traffic flow to clear.
