Hello! My name is Ashantinel Gabriel, and I am passionate about Philippine pop culture, especially in music, digital content, and gaming. Growing up in the digital age, I have witnessed how trends shape our everyday lives, from viral TikTok challenges to groundbreaking Filipino music. Here are five components of Philippine pop culture that I connect with:

1. OPM and P-Pop – I enjoy listening to Original Pilipino Music (OPM) Zack Tabudlo, Ben&Ben and P-Pop groups like SB19 and BINI, who are making waves in the international scene.

2. TikTok Trends – I often engage with viral TikTok dances and challenges that bring Filipinos together online.

3. Filipino Films and Series – I appreciate Filipino-made films, particularly Netflix originals and teleseryes that highlight Filipino culture.

4. Esports and Mobile Gaming – Games like Mobile Legends and Valorant are huge in the Philippines, and I enjoy playing them with friends.

5. Streetwear and Local Brands – I love supporting Filipino fashion brands that blend modern aesthetics with traditional elements.

Part B: Chosen Pop Culture Trend – The Rise of P-Pop (2021-2025)

I am highlighting the rise of P-Pop (Pinoy Pop) as a dominant trend in contemporary Philippine pop culture. P-Pop groups like SB19, BINI, and Alamat have gained widespread recognition, proving that Filipino artists can excel on the global stage. These groups have redefined OPM by incorporating K-Pop-inspired visuals and production while staying true to Filipino identity. With synchronized choreography, unique concepts, and powerful storytelling in their music, they continue to attract a loyal fan base. Their success has opened opportunities for more aspiring Filipino idols to enter the industry and showcase their talents.

P-Pop’s rise is largely fueled by social media, where dedicated fan bases actively promote their favorite groups. Platforms like TikTok, Twitter, and YouTube play a crucial role in increasing their visibility, allowing them to trend locally and internationally. This digital movement has strengthened Filipino pride, as these artists prove that Philippine music can thrive in the competitive global market. Additionally, P-Pop has influenced Filipino youth by inspiring confidence, cultural appreciation, and perseverance in chasing dreams. With its growing popularity, P-Pop is not just a trend but a movement shaping the future of Philippine music and entertainment.

Part C: P-Pop and Its Impact – A Uses and Gratifications Perspective

The Uses and Gratifications Theory explains why people engage with media, focusing on the needs it fulfills. P-Pop fans, known as “A’TIN” (for SB19), “Blooms” (for BINI), and “Magiliw” (for Alamat), consume P-Pop for various reasons: entertainment, social connection, and personal identity. Fans interact through social media, streaming, and concerts, creating a sense of belonging and community. This engagement strengthens Filipino pride, as these artists represent the Philippines on an international platform.

Moreover, P-Pop serves as an escape and inspiration for many. The lyrics of songs often highlight resilience, dreams, and cultural heritage, resonating with Filipino youth. For example, SB19’s hit “MAPA” became an anthem for gratitude towards parents, while Alamat incorporates native languages in their songs, promoting diversity. P-Pop is not just entertainment—it fulfills emotional, social, and cultural needs, making it an influential part of Philippine pop culture today.
