         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Substitution</strong> is when you replace traditional handwritten information with information written on a word document, power point, or google docs. <strong>Augmentation</strong> involves taking what you've substituted and taking it a step further by adding links or by using other tools to make the original plan better. <strong>Modification</strong> is redesigning some parts of the task by making the lesson more rich such as adding comments and sharing feedback by collaborating. <strong>Redefinition</strong> is transforming the task into something you would not be able to do without technology.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Technology has evolved rapidly throughout the 21st century. Since 2001, children have been exposed to technology throughout their entire childhood. It is now second nature for a child to be exposed to technology whether at home or in school. The options are endless when it comes to technology within the classroom. It has a major impact on both teaching and learning by engaging the student and allowing them to interact with the technology device. Using technology helps maintain the interest of the child, and stirs up excitement for them to learn.          <description><![CDATA[<div>In today's world, technology is all around us especially in the classroom. We are able to do so much more than we were just ten years ago. Because of tools like smart boards, ipads, and computers, we have opened up a whole new world of learning that would be impossible without technological advancements. The SAMR model allows students and teachers to obtain the benefits of all the technology we have today. Things such as microsoft word, videos, virtual tours, and blogs gives students the chance to explore education with a different outlook or perspective. It is now easier for children to collaborate and share ideas with peers even when they are not in the classroom.          <title>The Lesson on Plant Life Cycle for Grade 3</title>

This activity provides students with further evidence that all living things grow and change as they progress through their life cycle. Two optional video segments show students how to set up a germination experiment and how to grow seeds they collect on their socks.<br><br></div><div><strong>Objectives</strong><br><br></div><ul><li>Understand that plants have a life cycle that includes sprouting; developing roots, stems, leaves, and flowers; reproducing; and eventually dying</li><li>Observe the changes that occur during plant growth and development</li><li>Understand that the life cycle of plants is different from the life cycle of animals</li><li>Sequence the stages of plant life</li></ul><div><br><strong>The Lesson</strong></div><div><br></div><div>1. Show students a flowering potted plant, and ask them to name the parts of the plant: roots, stems, leaves, and flowers. Ask:</div><ul><li>Which part of the plant develops into the fruit?</li></ul><div>2. To help students understand that seeds develop inside fruits, have them examine a variety of fruits that have been cut open to expose their seeds. Discuss the different seed shapes they observe.<br><br></div><div>3. Make a word or picture splash (randomly scattered words or pictures) on the board that includes the following words or pictures: seed, root, stem, leaves, and fruit. Tell students that they are going to watch a video showing a seed sprouting (germinating) and growing. Ask them to predict which part of the plant starts to grow first, which part grows second, and so on. Put the words/pictures in the order they suggest.<br><br></div><div>4. Show students the <a href="https://ny.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/tdc02.sci.life.colt.plantsgrow/">From Seed to Flower</a> video. After watching, have them suggest corrections to the order of the words/pictures on the board. Ask them to describe how plants change as they grow. What happens to their size? Their shape? Their parts?<br><br></div><div>5. Discuss how the life cycle of plants is similar to and different from the life cycle of animals.</div><div><br></div><div>6. Give each student a piece of paper and have them draw and color pictures of plants that they think correspond to each of the stages of human development. (For example, a seed with newly sprouted roots would represent a newborn plant. A tall tree, with many branches, would illustrate a middle-aged tree.) They may want to watch the video again to help them with this project.<br><br></div><div>7. If possible, take students on a stages-in-the-life-of-a-tree hunt. Can they find a seedling, sapling, young adult tree, and very mature tree? How about a dead tree? Have them carefully draw examples of the stages they are able to find.<br><br><strong>Application:<br></strong>Have students plant bean or pea seeds in soil and observe and measure their growth<br><br><strong>State Standards</strong>:<br>Benchmarks for Science Literacy<br><br></div><div><strong>5C/E1 ( Grades: 3-5 ): </strong>Some living things consist of a single cell. Like familiar organisms, they need food, water, and air; a way to dispose of waste; and an environment they can live in.</div><div><strong>5E/E2 ( Grades: 3-5 ): </strong>Some source of "energy" is needed for all organisms to stay alive and grow.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Substitution:</strong>  Students will construct a power point to explain each step in the life cycle of a plant.<br><strong>Augmentation:</strong> Incorporate a multimedia video such as a timelapse to show how the plant life cycle looks in reality. In addition, students will draw how a fully grown plant looks on Microsoft paint.<br><strong>Modification:</strong> Create an online guide on how to take care of a plant while they grow their very own plant. Include pictures of how the plant looks each day it grows and short clips. Use excel spreadsheet to show the growth in centimeters each day.<br><strong>Redefinition:</strong> Students will create a blog where they provide feedback with peers about the growth of their plant. They will also interview a gardener and write about the interview and what they learned in their blog.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
