Applied to the European context, it means developing a practice in partnership with many different presenters, away from exclusivity principles and premiere pride, so that a visit to Europe makes sense both environmentally and financially.

sustainability - finding ways to operate that don't harm the environment, both locally and on tour - consider production, tourability and durability of projects, projects that use local participants and artists as well as 'touring companies',  green modes of transport, source sustainable materials, zero waste, recycling of materials

inclusivity - not just encouraging people from under-represented groups to join your company/organisation/team/project, but making the workplace a welcoming and nurturing place, apply inclusivity to all levels of organisation, including board,  programme in an inclusive way, representation - help audiences and potential new staff see themselves represented

Complexities are often a conflict between ecological and economic sustainability
- often, choosing sea freight over air freight means artists don't have work while set is on a boat. (who pays artists - is a career as a performer a financially sustainable option?)
initiatives of sustainability have associated cost
sometimes building sets locally seems a greener option, but doubling up isn't always
