Hello Horner Families!

Time is really flying this year. Can you believe we are a quarter through the year?

Couple ASB announcements for you. It was awesome to see all the amazing costumes on Halloween! Thanks to everyone who dressed up and participated in the ASB costume contest.

ASB also hosted a door decorating contest for Halloween. Make sure you check out our site and instagram for some amazing pictures of spooky doors.

Lastly the big event for ASB for the month of November is our annual canned food drive. Again please head to hornerhornets.org or follow us on Instagram @hornermiddle.hornets for more updates on this incredible event to help families in need.

Finally our next social will be taking place on December 8th. If you don’t have a gold card, to purchase a ticket, you must enter your name in our raffle. Despite complaints we have received, students had 3 days to enter and 2 days to purchase. Everyone who entered the raffle was eligible to buy a ticket. We are doing it this way to ensure fairness so everyone has the same opportunity regardless of where your 4th period class is located or if you need to get school lunch. Much more info to come on this!

Hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving break and spending time with your families!

Mr. Shaffer

Activities Director

Double Fines in School Zones

In Alameda County, fines are doubled for traffic violations in school zones. The additional revenue will

be used to pay for school and pedestrian safety programs.

As a community, we all play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of our students. To that end, we kindly ask for your cooperation in maintaining safe drop-off and pick up practices at our school.

Recently, we have noticed an increase in the number of parents double parking or stopping in the middle of the street to let their children out of cars during morning drop-offs and after school pick ups around the school. While we understand that the hustle and bustle of school mornings and afternoons can be hectic, we must prioritize the safety of all students. These practices can lead to unsafe conditions and potential accidents, putting our children at risk.

We kindly request that all parents adhere to the following guidelines to ensure a safe and efficient drop-off and pick up process:

Use Designated Drop-Off Zones: Our school has designated drop-off zones where you can safely and efficiently drop off and pick up your child. Please use these areas to keep the flow of traffic moving and reduce congestion. If you choose to not use the school drop off and pick up loop, please find a legal parking spot on one of the streets near the school.

Avoid Double Parking: Double parking not only disrupts traffic but also creates visibility issues and it is illegal. It can make it difficult for other parents to drop off and pick up their children and may lead to accidents or fatalities. Please find legal parking spots or utilize the drop-off zones instead.

No Stopping in the Middle of the Street: Stopping your car in the middle of the street to let your child out and unload or load can obstruct traffic and create a hazardous situation. We ask that you pull over safely to the side of the road or use the designated drop-off areas.

Practice Patience and Courtesy: We understand that mornings and afternoons can be rushed, but it's essential to be patient and considerate of others during drop-off and pick up times. By following the rules, we can collectively create a safer environment for our children.

By adhering to these guidelines, we can significantly reduce the risk of accidents and ensure the safety of all students and parents. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter and thank you for your continued support in fostering a secure and nurturing environment for our children.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to the school administration. Together, we can make our school drop-off and pick up process safer and more efficient.

Thank you for being part of our school community and for your commitment to our children's well-being.
