Germans over took there town and stole stuff. They were already poor. her best friend was deported and she wanted to put a stop to it. One day her dad pulled her aside. they had to hide two jews. If they got caught they would be killed. Her father dug a little box for the jews to hide in underground. The jews hid underground and Maria fed them every day 3 times a day for 2 years. She also brought them book to read. they later ended up hiding until war was over. sometimes when they think back they have to pinch themselves to make sure there not dreaming. they were 21 at the time and went into the gas chamber. and ended up walking out. She was like a super human. She still tells the stories today about how she survived the gas chamber.
