Ans: Yes. Beta Sydney in this extract is very different from Beta Sydney in the past. In this extract, Beta Sydney is not loyal to the government and does not even care if he is going to get severely punished for not abiding the law if the HR managers found out. In the past , Beta Sydney was a loyal citizen and abide the law as he does not want his skin to be removed.

however,beta sydney in this extract is thick-skinned and desperate .this can be seen from him visiting sydney wong despite knowing that it is a breach of rules to do so.he is so desperate to change principle that he doesn't care about the consequences that will happen to him and he just went to look for sydney wong. hence my impression of Beta Sydney has changed from an abiding understudy to a desperate and thick skinned person.

This can be seen from "what was he thinking, standing out here? Just what did he want to do? Beta Sydney shook his head and made his way discreetly into the shadows.'' this shows that Beta Sydney is impulsive and does not think before taking action

1.My impression of of Sydney is that he is a sneaky person.This can be seen from“recovered quickly,slipping into his role.”, and “Impromptu rehearsal”The phrase “recovered quickly” suggests he was used to slipping in and out of roles rapidly.The phrase “impromptu rehearsal” suggests that he feels that this is easy, so he should be used to this.This can also been seen from"assumed she was in the bedroom".The word "assumed" suggests that although he did not know where Melanie really was, he could easily lie about it.The word"assumed"also suggests that he knew the script very well, as schedules were probably included for everyone's script, and Mr.Rodrigues did not correct him. Hence,I believe that Sydney is deceiving as he acts like he seems to be an expert in acting as other people, and is able to lie with skill, and has planned for this well.

2.Yes, as at first, Beta Sydney appears  to be a law abiding understudy as instead of taking matters into his own hands, he requests the authorities to aid him.However, later he is brave enough to act as Sydney to meet him, not being scared when he meets a neighbour, instead acting as Sydney he also seems very prepared to lie and deceive so he can meet Sydney.Even when he was surprised by the neighbour, instead of showing fear, he remained level-headed.He even continues with his plan.Also, he oddly relishes the idea of going against the rules, especially since it was an extremely severe offence to meet their principals at all. Considering how easy he slips in and out of his two roles as Sydney and Beta Sydney, it almost seems like he has done this before, or he is extremely well prepared.He also memorised the script well as he recalls the neighbour's name, Mr Rodrigues, and is able to confidently guesses Melanie's location without being corrected of surprising anyone.Finally he has clearly planned meticulously, as this can be seen from"Not for the first time..why not?", so clearly he had many plans, and chose the one he felt was the best.Hence Sydney has clearly meticulously planned this out and is not afraid, to perhaps even enjoys, breaking the rules as he has clearly carefully planned this out and is extremely focused to see this plan being carried out fully and effectively at all costs, including the biggest danger of getting caught and punished severely.

2.Yes,there is. At first,Sydney was portrayed as a responsible and law abiding understudy. This is shown when he went to to HR managers for a change of principal. However now it is revealed that he is even courageous enough to meet his principal,despite knowing it is against the law and he could be severely punished if the authorities found out  what he was doing.
