As a fan of R&B I decided to pick this song. 

The music artist is described as a well-known American actor, musician and comedian. He goes by the name of Donald McKinley who performs with the stage name – Childish Gambino. His album release ‘awaken my love’ was dropped in 2016, being one of his recent albums. It has been one of the most popular albums listened to, explaining his award at the Grammys.

I began by looking at some different music videos in my genre, which I analysed and deconstructed, for example frank ocean. This allowed me to investigate the different shots and camera angles each video used and what was included and what was not. The styles of a music video include:

·         Narrative - This is often when the music tells a story often featured from the lyrics. The narrative can be like a film with a begging, middle and end. it can also promote a film using clips from the film. 

·         Performance -Many music videos include performances of the artists part of the video. They are used mostly to create a connection between the artist/band and audience and to promote the artist. There is no connection between the song lyrics and the video. 

·         Concept - Concept videos are based around one single idea and are usually unusual or obscurer. the content is an attraction to the audience. The narrative used was when my actor was walking along the high street and the performance base in my promo was my actor lip syncing. I have made my music video by the different location shots. This shows that I followed Andrew godwin theory of what he stated that good music videos have a mixture of both narrative and performance based as they both work well and appear more interesting. 

Overall, I think the music video adds effects to the overall production as it includes the same artist in the same suit and clothing, colours and themes which is presented through the magazine article and digipak cover. For example, there are shots of the artist by a fountain, which goes to show the repetition of the same image being shown in at least 2 media products meaning it is easier to for the audience to pair the two products together. The font and colours are both used in the ancillary texts which shows their links. The use of the black and white effect is portrayed through the 3 media products I have created, showing the effectiveness of the combination between the music video and ancillary products.

In conclusion, I think there is a strong link between the music video, magazine article and digipak cover.
