Mikayla Gambrel -- If I had to prove to school administrators and parents that literacy was very important to the success of students, I would pull questions from all subjects (math, science, social studies, electives, etc.) that involve literacy skills. I would also add real life/job examples of literacy to include in my presentation. I would explain and emphasize the significance of literacy skills in each example and that students who do not know how to read and write would not be able to complete the problems for other classes. I would also include data from the results of standardized testing, proving that the students with a high literacy have higher results across ALL subjects than the students with a lower literacy.

Beth Roy: If using assessments to inform people of the importance of literacy in other subjects, I would use standardized test results to compare and contrast students that have a high literacy level vs a low literacy level. Students with a lower literacy level will have most likely struggled in the other subjects as well because they cannot read. Using these test results would prove how important literacy is across subjects.

If I had to prove to stakeholders that literacy is valuable across all subjects, I would use students' assessments to show them. I would show them the success of a student in English/Literacy versus other subjects. For example, if students who were not doing well in English were also slipping in their other classes, it would indicate that their lack of literacy is affecting their ability to do well in other subjects. On the other hand, a student doing well in English that is also succeeding in her other subjects would display the same relationship.

Emily Casey - Literacy skills go beyond the English classroom, it goes into every subject and social life. If a student is not progressing in their literacy skills (reading, writing, speaking) as their grade level goes on, then they can become behind which will lead to problems in future classes. You can implement literary skills in science by writing out the process of how to do something, literacy skills in math come with reading a word problem and being able to understand what it is saying, and literacy skills in history when having to present in front of classroom you'll need to learn how to write out a paper. There are many ways to implement literacy skills into different subject areas and in social life.

Christian Smith- In my assessment data I would take for inference what my students scored on their math tests and compare it to science. In my math class, my students could use the written responses or word problems on the math portion and correlate them to the science written sections. This is not the only subjects you can compare and contrast but is the most effective.

Literacy skills are immensely useful when it comes to almost every aspect of life. One of the most pivotal moments of any person's life is when they learn to speak, to communicate. We have already established a society based on mass amounts of communication and are lucky to be in an era where it is very efficient. However, some doubt the value of literacy skills, thinking that their use doesn't stretch beyond English. I would use assessment to analyze how literacy and reading levels correlate to students grades in other subjects. It is very likely that if a student struggles in the comprehension of subjects like history or science, they are struggling in language arts as well. Even subjects like math which are seen as concrete and logical can benefit from heightened literary skills as students are better able to explain their though process and comprehend their thinking.

Kennedy Rice - Literacy skills are so much more than just language arts. Literacy is in every subject, everyday life, and future plans. Students will need these skills in order to succeed in other classes. If they are doing badly in language arts then the teacher may see this come up in other subjects like math and history. Literacy is important because it's also a way of communication. Being able to put into words the process of something is a key element of school and life. Literacy is also needed for future jobs. In future jobs you will be expected to read new information and be a continua's learner. You will need to be able to communicate information and problems that may come up in a way that makes since. These standardized testing will help students and teachers understand where the student is at and where they may need extra help.
