The absence of ethical values in the children and young people

1. What is the topic about?
The current generations of children and young people are less conscience about the importance of living some values that were considered primary, such as respect, honesty, self-care and care for others, persistence and dedication.

2. Why did you choose it?
Because I believe that the attitudes that are not consolidated in childhood and youth will not be lived in adulthood.

3. Why is it relevant in society?
Because these children and young people will be the builders of society, and if they do not have values, society will not have values, so there will be room for corruption, dishonesty and disrespect.

4. How this social topic is developed in the world?
Taking as a reference an article from the Complutense University of Madrid, the change in the teaching of values is justified in the change of mentality and the agitation that societies have had, it can be said that in these times values must be different from those transmitted years ago.

5. How well-developed is the topic in Colombia?
In Colombia it can be said that it is a very well defined topic in the institutional educational projects, but in practice the coherent teaching of these values is not evident. A comparative analysis can be made between a private school and a public school, in the public school perhaps because of the number of students it is complex to address situations where it is necessary to reflect on good values or the family contexts in which the students live may not be the best, in the private school to control a little more the population is a little more constructive discipline that can be implemented in them, it should be clarified that in private environments may also be possible to demonstrate some lack of moral conscience on the part of the students.

6. What are some positive and negative views about this topic in Colombia?
Some modern and progressive currents affirm that the values that were previously inculcated no longer make sense in today's societies due to the openness that human beings have achieved, while others affirm that values are timeless and that there should be no incidence of the change of mentality on the teaching of basic values in personal and community behavior.

7. How is your profession related to this social topic? Why?
My profession as a teacher and being a religious is directly related to this social topic because the formation of children and young people is part of my mission and being aware of how much is missing makes the teaching work more committed.

8. How can you contribute from your profession to this social topic? Why?
I can contribute by bearing witness with my life to the importance of values in everyday life, making students aware of the realities we are living and relate them to the lack of values so that they can learn and understand the need to learn and practice values with sincerity.

9. What are your final thoughts about the topic?
The teaching of values cannot leave the classroom, on the contrary, it must be consolidated in order to develop good intentions and the correct actions of students. If we want to change the style of government or political conflicts, we must correctly train those who in the future will have this task in their hands.

10. What are the ways to improve it in Colombia?
Implement in the study plans obligatory and coherent courses on the practice of values, mainly honesty and the common good.
