Today, I've read an article about the close bond between sibling. The article can be summarized as below:

It's about the true sentimental story of a brother in Thailand who dropped out of school in order to provide his sister a great education possible, as a result of their family didn't have afford to fund both of them' s educational fees.

She totally didn't know about the thing until the day she finished her studies and her mother informed her of the enormous sacrifice her brother had made.

So, during her graduation, she gave her brother her cap and gown, as she wants him to know that her success was thanks to her brother, so this graduation should be celebrated by all of them. Then, she did a bow down in front of her older brother and knelt on her knees to express her gratitude.

New vocabulary/expressions I learned:
- irreplaceable (adj): too valuable or special to be replaced (không thể thay thế)
E.g: These pictures are irreplaceable.
- unremarkable (adj): ordianry, not special (bình thường, không có gì đặc biệc)
- break out something (phrasal verb): to begin using/ doing something (bắt đầu làm gì)
E.g: Even while her pictures seem ordinary and unremarkable, the stories behind them could make you break out in tears.
- enormous (adj): extremely large (to lớn)
E.g: Her parents made an enormous sacrifice so that she could have a good education.
- respectable (adj): considered by society to be acceptable, good or correct (được tôn trọng, thừa nhận)
E.g: a respectable lifestyle

What it would take to make us love our jobs again

May 25th, 2023

Today, I’ve read an article name “What it would take to make us love our jobs again”. I found there are some interesting information.

Most people think that going to work is not only to earn money for their needs in life but it also makes people feel valued, some think success at work mean success in life and happiness. But as I observe people surrounding me, I think having a job would help our mental state, or simply maintain a routine, even just having anything to do whether it's a true passion of us or not.

Laurel Coates, who is had been working for two years at a grocery store in California when pandemic began. She quitted her job and received unemployment insurance payments. She was good in finance situation, but she eventually missed her work because she need the social interaction, not just money. Finally, she decided to return to her job a year later.

A college professor in Pennsylvania quitted his dream job to became a freelance writing. Everyday his wife went off to work and he stayed at home to write, but actually he spent a lot of time lying on the couch, while ideas, words and money came to him slowly. Then he thought he really need a job. After a year and a half, he returned to a familiar place: the classroom.

Like most children, who always have to go to school, adults lack alternative social structures, thus work is a default way of engaging with society, especially with people haven’t got married or having child to take care. That’s the reason why as the pandemic over, many people went back their work even they didn’t need money.

I always ask myself that we live to work or work to live. Unlike many people think work is everything, I supposed it's just one part of our life. Besides work, people should spend more leisure time for family, friends, and personal hobbies to have a meaningful living.

New vocabulary I learned:
- burnout (n): the state of being extremely tired or ill, either physically or mentally, because you have worked too hard

- intangible (adj): something that does not exist as a physical thing but is still valuable to a company

- wage (n): a regular amount of money that you earn. Syn: income

- intimate (v): (of people) having a close and friendly relationship

- drawback (n): (of/to doing something) a disadvantage or problem that makes something a less attractive idea
