I did not know too much on architecture for it was an art form that I was not really interested in at first.

It not because it didn’t intrigue me, but it’s just that living within an urban city, I was mainly exposed to simple buildings such as condominiums, schools or malls, which hindered me from looking more into the topic.

I was aware that in specifically Greece and Rome, there were a variety of classical architecture styles like the ones what we learned. In this generation, the architecture I would see online would be minimalist designs and not not of the intricate designs that we would discuss in class.

In high school, I learned how architecture played a big role in some churches around the Philippines for I visited a few during filed trips.

During the module, I learned that truly, in architecture form and function work hand in hand. I learned that it is important for form and function to have a symbiotic relationship, for in my opinion, one of the main reasons of why architecture exists goes beyond artistic expression. It provides a space that would allow humans to live safely and productively; as art and mathematical measurements are used to create constructions that enhance the quality of life.

To be more specific, I personally enjoyed learning more on organic architecture, where the “La Sagrada Familia” by Antoni Guadi was discussed. Guadi used organic architecture in a literal level as he made use of elements coming from nature, (such as flower motives, palm trees and etc.) which showcased work that was intricate and authentic. His work's intricacy is further supported through the smallest details of his work which were all connected to his organic message and motive.

It also inspired me knowing that his work took more than 128 years to make, as other people have already taken over to devote their time to maintain Guadi’s vision, showcasing how the artist community respect each other’s expressions and dreams.

What else I’d like to learn about architecture would be more on the local sense, where I would like to look into more of our country’s notable architecture landmarks as this can allow us to see how tis could reflect on our history. I would also be very interested in studying modern architecture, trends in architecture styles and possible discuss the future of this art form.

"THE LAST SUPPER" by Leonardo da Vinci

The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci is beautiful for its elements work together to compliment the different principles of design. Upon looking at the painting, a pop of color of the subjects (Jesus and the Disciples) is observed. The subjects present light/pastel tones on their clothing (blue, green, pink, nude, red) which is in contrast to the surroundings of the subjects which present dull, and dark colors (dirty white, grey, brown and etc.) This contrast in color then eventually creates a natural focus on the subjects. The type of balance seen in this painting is symmetrical where the subject of Jesus can serve as a midpoint, as both sides of the midpoint show equal weight and proportions in relation to each other and to the surroundings; taking equal space and movement. The different scale and proportions of the subjects on both sides of Jesus create a consistent and balanced rhythm, where the push and pull of the shapes/sizes of the objects sustain visual stability. The symmetrical balance can also be seen at the background, for the opposite ends have equal amount of figures which lead towards the same direction formed by the stroke of the lines. Due to all these, it is understandable and evident why this painting is considered as one of the most famous and beautiful of all time.
