In the United States, there was a large wealth gap between the rich and the rest of the people, leading to the unfair distribution of resources and opportunities in society. College and University students were the major protesters, as there was a high unemployment rate and a very high increase in student debt. They felt that there were very few economic opportunities, making it difficult to pay off their student debt. The main location for the protest, Wall Street, was chosen because it is an important economic area in New York with a lot of economic inequality.
