It is transmitted from generation to generation- so it is the job of each generation to practice, present and express knowledge with each possible instrument. The session reminded me to think about our own cultural heritage in Germany - and if this exists at all? That’s why I have chosen a photo of the Sorbs and their beautiful costumes. The Sorbs are a minority in Germany and live in our close area.

Most of us lack the power to have any real or lasting effects on our school curriculum. We might not be able to impact the whole school district or school but we can impact our classrooms. At our school project work occurs about twice a year and our principals let us choose our own topics. This would be the perfect opportunity to highlight cultural heritage in our schools. 

 Our article argues that „today’s children are tomorrow’s global citizens“ , but after talking to my colleagues this week, it seems like we are already there! I hope that there will be some new exchange program opportunities which blossom from our training here in Guadeloupe!

I definitely feel like my country, Liechtenstein, and our students would benefit from such interactions. Although our students come from a variety of socio-economical backgrounds, I feel that the personal challenges that they would face would prove to be not only eye-opening but also therapeutic. Some of our students have also faced discrimination and prejudice and sharing those stories with others who have also faced that could prove to help them process what they have been through. In my school band there are students from different nations. They love to combine international and older pop songs with modern elements like rap. That's why they chose the older form of the song 'Beggin'' (put your lovin' arms around me) for the last performance and combined all kinds of elements in their song, because they want to make music together first and foremost and therefore take great care that all 20 musicians like it. So even the jamming is always dependent on their own ability and taste and thus fuses into their own piece. They have learned that most of the genres of their favourite songs come from their African-American roots, which have been evolving for so many decades through their own influences. As soon as he is away from Guadeloupe for two weeks, he misses his home. He is just one of many people I had the pleasure of meeting this week who live this cultural heritage. 
Homecountry (Heimat- in German) is an ambivalent term in Germany because of our history. But I think it is important to be proud of one's identity. I learned that for some time, Creole was badly regarded here as an expression of slavery, which people no longer wanted to have anything to do with. It's good that it's now something to be proud of again. 
For me, cultural heritage certainly doesn't mean looking backwards, only holding on to the old. I enjoy having many new influences, and so cultural identity is constantly changing. 
Travelling, thinking outside the box, is so important. 
My position on my country changed a lot when I went abroad for a year. You take a different point of view, you see new possibilities, but you also notice what you like about your own country. 
For example, it was nice to talk about these roots with my French class, where there are children with many international roots, and to learn from each other. And we are all also Germany. A new cultural identity is certainly emerging in the process.

Being a proud German can turn into being a right wing guy, a rasist and so on. Being half Algerian I need to look for my heritage as well as I'm always more connected to the French than the African part because we have many frenchies in my family and I was taught how to speak French from my father and hat never a real connection to the Algerian part. For me it's always important to speak to locals, to try to open my mind and to explore new cultures. Créole music, food, crafting and everything is really important. I need to figure out why I'm that much impressed by other cultures and less interested in my own. We could see it during this week of course with many exemples, e.g. language, arts, food, etc...But also intangible heritage as Guadeloupean's lifestyle, customs and beliefs. I believe that this week has taught us that heritage may be presented in many ways and forms.
As cultural heritage is a part of a culture, it can be protected, that's why ensuring the preservation of these treasures is a vital task for all of us, starting by their citizens themselves.
The photo I posted shows a quite special party ("Cascamorras") that takes place in my region between two villages (I work in Guadix) in which they "fight" to get the Virgin back to one of the two villages. Behind this party, there's a background of rivality and envy to be the capital of the county which stills remains in their citizens.

What are our roots? And are we just born into a culture we learned to simply adopt and always got told it would be the right one and others not or less important? 

Whenever people ask me where I am from I nowadays say from Europe as going into detail is somehow dangerous. When I was traveling in the islamic/arab workd and said that I was from Austria 🇦🇹 People smiled at me and said “oh, Namza. Hitler!” Also with is really this is not the easiest country to make friends. Whereas I say I am from Switzerland or Liechtenstein most people don’t know of its existence.

Example: a simple greeting like "good morning" to all people you meet on the way to school or work. It is so often we live in a neigbourhood and pass each other without a word or a glance... 
After being for a few months in Guadeloupe I got used to greeting everyone with a smile. Just out of habbit I said good morning to a person I met on a street during my visit to Lithuania. He jumped startled, looked at me in disbelief and ask "Do I know you?" 
That incident became a starting point for our pre-school project. Our school community made an effort to say "Good morning" not only to people they know but to everyone they meet. Many good moments of happiness, pride and friendliness!!!!
