         <description><![CDATA[<div>The 11th Airborne Division was activated at Camp Mackall North Carolina on February 25, 1943 under the command of Major General Joseph M. Swing. <br>     -The 11th Airborne Division launched a coordinated ground attack against a reinforced infantry regiment and conducted several aerial resupply and casualty evacuation missions in coordination with United States Army Air Forces transport aircraft.<br>     -On the day that the Los Baños internees were freed, the headquarters of Sixth United States Army assigned the 11th Airborne Division the task of destroying all Japanese formations in southern Luzon, south of Manila.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Where did the Division fight? <br>- New Guinea (24 Jan 43 - 31 Dec 44)<br>- Leyte (17 Oct 44 - 1 Jul 45)<br>- Luzon (15 Dec 44 - 4 Jul 45)<br>- Southern Philippines (27 Feb - 4 Jul 45)<br>- The 11th Airborne Division fought by dropping from planes into land that no other troops could get to whether that be because there were enemy troops already there or there was no way to get there, and were able to clear a path for their allies. <br>- They were successful because they were able to clear paths in order to make major highways for allies to link up and they were able to land in different areas no other troops would land.<br>-During action on Luzon, the division participated in combat parachute jumps at Taygaytay Ridge, Los Banos, and Aparri<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Maj. Gen. Joseph M. Swing:<br>General Joseph May Swing was a senior United States Army officer, who fought in World War I and commanded the 11th Airborne Division during the campaign to liberate the Philippines in World War II.<br>He was successful because he was able to command his troops in a manner that they would respect him and listen to him. He lead the 11th airborne division to a successful victory in the Knollwood training maneuver on December 7, 1943.<br><br></div>]]></description>
