Jim Crown's laws legalized racial segregation. It was a response to the 13th amendment in 1865 which freed all black people. They were installed in south of US until 1965 (CIVIL RIGHTS ACT).

The painting is an oil on canvas. It represents Ruby Bridges, a young African-American, who went to a school in New Orleans attended only by white children, on November 14, 1960, during the process of desegregation of blacks and whites.

Martin Luther King is one of the most famous afro-american baptist and Blacks' rights activist . On the 4th of april, 1968 at 6PM, he was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee, in a motel where he slept because he was helping the black garbage men during a strike.
After his death, president Johnson declared a national mourning, the first one for an afro-american. His assassination caused many riots in more than 100 cities, particularly in Washington.
