For this issue, we want to focus on our positioning and motion through time. We want to be intentional about looking back and understanding what histories are important to us. Collective, individual, regardless of size of the timeline, what are the implications of its technologies and agencies on the people and structures that we exist with.

We hope this issue contains a variety of interpretations of this theme with intentionality on storytelling, aesthetics, and juxtaposition. We urge you to reflect on all that’s come before you - the many histories and stories you carry within you. Use it as fuel to spark innovation and drive the creative process.

visuals: can we look to past imagery that reflects negotiation with the movement of time? what are important historical visuals to you? your communities? what are the aesthetics of the future?

photography: can we use motion blur or lack thereof to describe aspects of time that cannot be as literally depicted in a motionless picture. what camera technologies are best to tell the story? Does it make sense to use a film camera, older digital camera, modern mirrorless camera? how can natural or artificial lighting reflect the time positioning?

styling: how do aesthetic choices depict the future you hope? What are the politics of maximal or minimalistic futures? Be bold and daring with your makeup looks. This is not the issue for subtlety

design: can we mix past and present typography and images? what archival imagery is meaningful

models: how can we be intentional about whose histories and futures we want to depict through modeling
