In stave 1 we are introduced to Scrooge as being a moody and ignorant person. He gets visited by carol singers on Christmas Eve, but Scrooge chases them away! We also see that when Scrooge gets visited by the portly gentlemen, who then ask him if he wanted to donate money to charity for the poor for Christmas, however Scrooge refuses.

by the end of the stage we can see that Scrooge is walking home, by the time he gets home he can see Marleys face on the door knocker. The bells start ringing as Scrooge starts to get into bed, this causes tension and mystery in the book. We then get told Scrooge bears scraping noises and loud bangs, as he looks at the end of his bed he sees Marleys ghosts Wrapped around him was chains. The ghost then warns Scrooge that 3 ghosts will visit him to warn him that he needs to change his ways .

In the beginning on stave 2 Scrooge is hiding under his bed covers in fear and anticipation waiting for the first on the three ghosts that he got told would come to visit. The ghost of Christmas past then appeared and opened Scrooges bed curtain looking like the shape of a candle . Scrooge screamed in fear and confusion. Then the ghost begins to take Scrooge back to his childhood. This is where we can see that Scrooge got neglected by his family from a very young age.

The repetition of “ding dong!” Tells us that as the time kept going down the more impatient Scrooge became for waiting for the first of the three ghosts to come and visit him.

by the end of stave 2 we can see the ghost of Christmas past took Scrooge back to his childhood, after we saw this we began to see as Christmas party being thrown by one of Scrooges old colleagues fezziwig (who was a very jolly an excitable character), this makes Scrooge feel very lonely now becuase the ghost also shows Scrooge when him and belle met and started dancing together at the party. Then the ghost of Christmas past took Scrooge to belles house where we can see belle telling Scrooge they need to break up because she believes all Scrooge cares about is his money, after that we see belle and her new boyfriend slagging off Scrooge. This makes Scrooge feel down and upset however does not make it known.
