I chose this picture because Moana teaches us that nature has the power to heal. Plants are the only creatures in our world that create more than they destroy. Animals destroy and take life, and with the exception of fungi and certain invasive species, plants give life, plants give resources, plants give shelter, and are very important for the survival of all species on the planet. Next to the fuels that are sunlight and water, there is nothing more instrumental to the survival of all living animal species.

I know there has been a lot of noise surrounding the fires and deforestation happening in our tropical rainforests. I also know what I see happening everyday in front of my own face. In our own home we are lumbering away at our deciduous forests. We tear into them to put in homes and communities for our ever growing population. I remember a time not too long ago where Atlanta had more trees than it does and Woodstock had no type or urban development. We in this country are quick to look at the problems in other areas and yes they are bad, but America for a long time has been growing at such a rapid rate that we have destroyed almost all of our own forests and the creatures that once lived in them.

The Neolithic revolution may have been the downfall of mankind. A program on Viceland goes into how today’s society is lazy and men are driven by greed and materialism. It states that once men no longer had to farm and fend for themselves they branched out into other areas or became wards of specialization. This did some good such as the development of medicine and government, however when humans made life complicated it made them even more complicated. Where they sit today there is worry about how we will be able to purchase food, clothes, cable, phones, and other goods that at one time were very attainable by growing them personally or that weren’t even necessary for everyday life. Humans are currently stuck in a system that not only keeps the majority of them from being aware enough to be self sufficient in this manor , but that also limits it entirely. It may be fair to say that if humans never experienced this revolution to its fullest extent then perhaps a lot of the self induced issues humanity faces today would be non existent or at least very far off in the future.

It’s a very simple chemical compound, but it is vastly important. Without carbs nothing around us would function. All of the animals on this planet need carbs to function and have energy. The prey and the predator, humans and beast all alike need carbs to operate on a normal day to day basis. Arguably without carbs everything that humans operate would no longer be sustained. Life on earth would cease to exist without this chemical derivative from plants.

I feel that many would think of the world as a barren wasteland full of pollution and decay if we continued the way we are. I can’t for certain say that would or would not be the case, however there’s a certain trend that is certain about our world. The apex predators of the world tend to go extinct every so often and those extinctions whether astronomically caused or an anomaly are usually preceded by periods of atmospheric change and extreme cycles. It’s like a correction of the universe. There must always be balance, if the scales are tipped too far in one direction there is some extreme that must be done to tip it back in the other. I believe that when we are that unbalance something will come along and make sure we are no longer able to do that. So I do not believe we will get the chance to destroy our world before something destroys us. For that reason I chose this picture of the earth without us. An earth that has corrected itself to continue to preserve the gift of life.
