The roses he leaves are believed to be in memory of the people buried in the site of the Poe monument: Poe, Maria Clemm, and Virginia Poe. Out of respect for Poe's memory and the Poe Toaster, no one has attempted to reveal the identity of the mysterious visitor. Yes? Well then, you are most likely reading Gothic Literature. Gothic Literature has many different elements, although it is all based around a similar premise. For example, most pieces of literature that classify their reading as gothic would include death and decay, haunted homes or castles, family curses, madness, powerful love or romance, ghosts, and vampires. This ties into most of Poe's poems and stories since they too included some of the characteristics of Gothic Literature I previously listed.
