La mer, comme à son habitude, est étincelante. Les mouettes saluent le voilier de cris et de jacassements. L’air est frais et porteur des embruns salés. Après avoir stabilisé son bateau au beau milieu des flots, John contemple l’horizon et médite. Qu’aurait voulu son père ?… Sally est-elle déjà en route ? Très vite, un sommeil fiévreux gagne l’homme. Réduit à se laisser voguer au grès des courants et marées, John se remémore tous les évènements qui l’ont conduit jusqu’ici. S’il avait pu changer quelque chose, l’aurait-il fait ?
