The Me Too movement was set up to 'help survivors of sexual violence, particularly Black women and girls, and other young women of colour from low wealth communities, find pathways to healing'(Burke, 2006). When the hashtag took off, this threw this local grassroots work in the global eye and people started notice of survivors of sexual violence and a very important conversation started that people need to talk about. Something that is very important to people who created the Me Too is to 'de-stigmatize the act of surviving by highlighting the breadth and impact of a sexual violence worldwide.'

Now the conversation has started the people behind the Me Too movement have no intention in it stopping and want to expand it globally around the world for everyone to see plain and simple the abuse that goes on in any workplace from Hollywood film sets to a McDonalds, so they can 'speak to the needs of a broader spectrum of survivors'. They want the people responsible to be held accountable for their actions and be punished for these actions, they also want rules and plans in place so future generations don't have to experience the abuse and violence that others did, its simple they want systematic change, to help in the long term for everyone from 'young people, queer, trans, and disabled folks,' to 'Black women and girls, and all communities of colour.'

The Me Too movement doesn't just highlight the sexual abuse it wants to help the survivors and support them to try and heal and with the Me Too movement now being so global they now have the ability to talk to others that have experienced similar horrific events in their life. 'The Me Too movement supports survivors of sexual violence and their allies by connecting survivors to resources, offering community organizing resources, pursuing a ‘me too’ policy platform, and gathering sexual violence researchers and research. Me Too movement work is a blend of grassroots organizing to interrupt sexual violence and digital community building to connect survivors to resources.' The Me Too movement doesn't just generalize their help as its now such a global force, they still adapt specifically to 'the needs of different communities.' (Burke, 2006)

She had a troubled childhood to put it lightly, she grew up in a 'low-income, working-class family in a housing project', she is a three time survivor of sexual assault and this happened as a child and whilst she was in her teens. Her mother did support her after these acts, she was the one who pushed and encourage her to start talking and start helping others that have experienced similar horrendous experiences. Her career has always been in about helping others, she started out working along side the 21st century youth leadership movement and other helpful organisations.

The original phrase Me Too was created by Burke whilst she was working at her organisation called Just Be. Inc, she was all the time hearing stories from girls who have been sexually assaulted one girl said it happened by her mother's boyfriend and after hearing all these accounts Burke was always left speechless searching for anything to say that could emphasize with these girls and women in some way, so she started saying 'You’re not alone. This happened to me too.' From this point on it became Burke's phrase and was the original start of the now huge movement. What the phrase really means to Burke is she thinks it is double-edged as it shows she isn't afraid of ashamed that its happened to her and it shows other survivors that she's with them and she understands them and how they feel and what they are going through

The one girl who's mothers boyfriend was abusing her was called Heaven, she had the pure courage and bravery to sit Burke down and tell her as Burke puts it 'who was doing all sorts of monstrous things to her developing body.' Burke said she was horrified by her words, and after only a short five minute chat she had to turn this little girl away as she couldn't take listening to her any more, and Burke says she'll never forget the look on her face, she says it haunts her and she said on her website 'I think about her all of the time. The shock of being rejected, the pain of opening a wound only to have it abruptly forced closed again – it was all on her face. As much as I love children, as much as I cared about that child, I could not find the courage that she had found.' Burke then goes on to say 'I watched her walk away from me as she tried to recapture her secrets and tuck them back into their hiding place. I watched her put her mask back on and go back into the world like she was all alone and I couldn’t even bring myself to whisper…me too.' (Biography.com Editors, 2018) This sad, disgusting real account from Heaven and Burkes reaction to this was the original catalyst for the Me Too movement, I assume Burke hopes that girl found the help she needed or Heaven now knows what Burke was thinking in those moments and I personally hope Heaven knows her courage and bravery was the original start for millions to share their experiences around the world.

Alyssa Milano says she was sexually assaulted over 30 years ago but she says she never reported it because she felt her claims would be brushed away, this is why in the wake of the accusations against Harvey Weinstein she tweeted out the famous tweet so others could just share what happened to them without having to go into detail. She said it took her 30 years to even tell her parents and never went to get justice because she just wanted to forget about it and never have to relive it, but she did this she spoke up and this meant others, thousand around the world have now spoken up too. Milano has now opened up about when she was sexually assaulted at 19 at concert but she never found out who did this so she never had anyone to report and she told no one about this experience for over 30 years as it was one of the worst moments in her life. She goes into detail about what happen in the article linked below and how recounting this memory is as bad as when it happened, in the article she said 'I thought I was gonna die' and 'I looked to the security guards, and I said, 'Please, help me.' They couldn't help me."' (Jensen, 2018) She was sexually assaulted a 2nd time on a shoot when she was 24 but she has said she not ready to go into detail about that yet.

On the 5th of this month, The 'New York Times' reported a story that accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct, sexual harassment and paying out eight settlements over the space of 30 years to actress's he has worked with and women who used to be part of his companies. This was the beginning of the end for Harvey Weinstein's career as only five days later on the 10th, Ronan Farrow a reporter for 'The New Yorker' reported that Weinstein had raped 3 women and sexually assaulted another 13, Farrow stated that he'd wanted to publish these allegation much earlier but was told by his parent company NBC that he couldn't because they were under pressure not to, they of course denied this. In this report it states that people did know about Weinstein's activities and as many as 16 current or former employees of Weinstein had been told or even witnessed this acts from Weinstein that all have reported to be non-consensual. It was then reported that 4 actress said they all rejected Weinstein's approaches that they had all been fired from whatever project they were on, they all had suspicions that Weinstein was behind this as way to prove his point and Dawn Dunning said in a Sky News documentary that he said 'this is how this industry works' after he offered her 3 film contracts in turn for threesome with himself and his assistant.

In end there wasn't enough evidence to convict Weinstein of any crime at this time. Also earlier when Farrow had been investigating this case, Apparently Weinstein hired a private investigation company to stop anything coming out in the press about him.

There's always been talk and chatter in the Hollywood circuit about Harvey Weinstein' infamous 'casting couch', the earliest ever comment on this or Harvey as a 'sleezy' bloke was in 1998 when Gwyneth Paltrow said on a talk show that 'Weinstein will coerce you to do a thing or two', surprisingly enough another actress this time Courtney Love said in 2005 'If Harvey Weinstein invites you to a private party in the Four Seasons don't go.' Then again in 2010 an article came out mentioned the 'casting couch', in 2012 an American TV series made a joke out of Harvey Weinstein and his advances on women and in 2013 Seth McFarlan made another joke this time at an academy award ceremony and then in 2012 a book was published by one of Weinstein's former employees at Miramax and detail many incidents of misconduct by Weinstein.

Now there is about over 100 women in total that accuse Harvey Weinstein of many things those include rape, sexual assault, assault, sexual harassment. From the information from many reports the women say that Weinstein would always invite them to talk about their career then demand sex or sexual acts so he could then help them forward their career. The list of women who have accused Weinstein of sexual abuse, assault or harassment is very long and has some very famous names on it, some of these are; Kate Beckinsale, Cate Blanchett, Cara Delevingne, Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Myleene Klass, Rose McGowan, Lupita Nyong'o, Gwyneth Paltrow, Uma Thruman and Asia Argento. They are many more names on that list, as in an interview with the woman who worked at Miramax she 'Weinstein would have women in there (his office), three times a week at least'. (The Editors at BBC News, 2018) This happened for 30 years so the number could be in the thousands. There is also 14 women who have said Weinstein raped them 11 named and 3 unnamed.

Weinstein's defence

Harvey Weinstein of course had a response to all the claims and accusations, he has said in a New York Times report 'I appreciate the way I've behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it.', which firstly I personally don't believe him as I don't think he really cares about how the people he's hurt feels. I think the events that have happened to do with Weinstein's representatives just shows how guiltily this man is as since the Me Too movement as he has had three different representatives, he had Lisa Bloom who described him as 'an old dinosaur, learning new ways' this and other statements she said, put her under a lot criticism from the media, and unsurprisingly his attorney dropped him October 15th, then two days after Bloom left, he hired a crisis PR company but by April 3rd 2018 they dropped him too, if this isn't enough to show that no one can defend him for the horrible crimes he did. Weinstein continues to denies everything he has done in a formal statement his spokesperson said 'any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein'.(Twohey and Barr, 2017) I think Weinstein knows and fears that he will go down for at least one of crimes he committed as he resorted to bringing others down with him as in early 2018, he released emails from Ben Affleck and Jill Messick that both helped Weinstein's defence as they went against Rose McGowan's account of her rape by Weinstein, this caused Messick to commit suicide, Messick's family blame the media and the public as Messick came under severe cyberbullying and her family wrongly blames McGowan like she's done something wrong and of course they blame Weinstein who I think hoped something like this happened to take the news away from himself, but it didn't really take the focus away from as he's still going to go trial and hopefully he will go down for the crimes he committed.

As of October 2017, the police forces reacted, London's, LA's and New York's police departments started looking at the situations and started reviewing Weinstein's actions. Each police department started their own investigation into Weinstein. In October 2017, the NYPD was preparing a warrant to try to arrest Weinstein just for the rape of Paz De La Huerta, but up until 2018 in May the investigation is still pending. By the end of that month, Weinstein was actually charged with crimes some of those being rape, sex abuse and criminal sex act, but the same day through a 1 million dollar bail and the agreement he would give up his passport and wear an ankle monitor and be confined to just New York and Connecticut. The LAPD are investigating an unnamed actress that accused Weinstein and the London police are looking in cases that go back to the 90's, this is total of 15 cases. There has been many civil lawsuits against Weinstein some of these being against his company, one of his old personal assistants tried to sue him, so did Ashley Judge as Weinstein made false comments about her and there reports that Weinstein tried to settle lawsuits against him for 44 million dollars.

As Weinstein should have got, he received widespread abuse and backlash for the horrific crimes he committed, this backlash from a varied of people famous and not famous, many people in film industry commended his actions and so did American politicians such as Hillary Clinton and the Obama's, Weinstein also got fired from his own company and got kicked out of many organisations such as the BAFTA's and the President of France and Labour party in the UK took away titles from him. Furthermore he also got divorced from his wife, she divorced him only 5 days after the allegations came out. There was also a 'national reckoning' in the USA the Weinstein allegation was the fire starter to the worldwide knowledge of the Me Too movement, women started coming forward from all walks of life, and started sharing their own stories about being sexual abused or raped. Charles Upham who was the father of Misty Upham came forward to the authorities that allegedly by a member of Weinstein's production team raped his daughter and the others watched and didn't just watch they cheered. This just shows the toxic environment that Weinstein created at his company that rapists' (which is one of the worst crimes possibly) are cheered and championed. There were documentaries made by Sky News, 'The New Yorker' and 'The New York Times' and they won prizes for their work uncovering the scandal;, the people behind the Me Too movement were named the 'Silence Breakers', the movement spread across Europe and the world, in places such as France political parties were accused of sexual harassments and most importantly the outing of Weinstein put other heads on the chopping block and more allegations came out against people such as Kevin Spacy, Louis C K and Brett Ratner, this was called the Weinstein effect

As you know the 5th and 10th of October where the days the allegations came out against Weinstein, This then created this effect that meant men and women all around the world came out online with stories about sexual misconduct and this affected many industries not only the performance one as actors and directors such as Kevin Spacy, Ben Affleck, James Tobak and even people from the new medium of YouTube such as screen junkies creator Andy Signore. More industries were affected as well as politicians and senators such as John Conyers and Al Franken, and even TV figures were accused some of these were; Matt Lauer and Charlie Rose. But it wasn't just an effect in the USA in the UK politicians were accused as well and these allegations span across decades. There was even accusations against charities and festivals in Canada and the UK and even defence securities and Welsh ministers too. Journalists said that it was a reckoning and it was the time has come that you got fired for sexual abuse. People unsurprisingly accused Donald Trump of sexual misconduct as well as Bill Clinton and R. Kelly as well.

In came out that very high profile figures that were in support of the Me Too to movement also have allegations against them for sexual harassment and assault. Firstly there was Leslie Moonves who was the CEO of CBS and founded 'Commission on Sexual Harassment and Advancing Equality in the Workplace', this was formed in 2017 after the Weinstein allegations came out I feel Leslie did this to take the heat of himself in case people came out against him and they did. At the end if July 2018, 6 women did come out against him and accused him of sexually harassing them, the most famous one of these was the actress IIIeana Douglas. Another very interesting accusation was against Asia Argento, she was the leading, 'Weinstein accuser and prominent #MeToo movement leader'.(Severson, 2018) In 2013 only 4 years before this it is understood that she assaulted a then 17 year old Jimmy Bennet in a hotel in California, he was under the age of consent and to make it even worse she is a survivor herself from sexual assault.

From the Weinstein Effect that I have mentioned his name was brought up multiple time in multiple different countries with allegations spanning from the 80's all the way to 2016. It is understood by the public and media that Spacy claims he didn't do it as much as Weinstein does but he there's still maybe a few cases that can put this man away sadly it was young boys that he preferred running the lives of instead of the women that Weinstein did.

In wake of all these allegations the filming for House of Cards final season was put on stand by and the Media Rights Capital, who produce the show felt like they had to open up an 'anonymous complaint hotline, crisis counsellors, and sexual harassment legal advisors for the crew', (Melas, 2017)and because of all the allegations MRC then came out and said that back 2012, a member of crew had complained about a remark and gesture by Kevin Spacy, but MRC said that Spacy wanted to learn and take a course and they'd had no complaints since. The series of House of Cards was meant to finsh anyways in 2018, but it cut short by 5 episodes Spacey was removed from the cast and executive producer, Netflix cut all ties with Spacy they cancelled two upcoming projects of his, reshot him out of a film already made, and top it all off for the horrible man, he didn't get honoured at an award show and his publicist and talent agency left him.

The first accusation is from 1986 and is from Anthony Rapp an actor who starred on Broadway but at this time he was only starting out as a 14 year old while Spacey was 26, Rapp said Spacy did appear drunk and tried to sexually advance himself on Rapp, a whole 21 years later is when Rapp shared this story to the world but, he did try to tell people in a interview in 2001 but Spacey's name had to be removed as they didn't want to publicly out a very famous well respected actor. I feel the fact that Spacey was drunk and this was the first accusation meant he just tried to play it off saying in a tweet he doesn't remember it and he owned Rapp 'the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behaviour',(Melas, 2017) he still denied doing this anyways. Spacey couldn't keep hiding and lying for long though as more and more allegations and accusation started coming out of the woodwork, as another 15 more young men, these ranging from news broadcaster's son, film directors to former Norway royal family members. Whilst he was artistic director at the Old Vic Theatre more than 20 people came forward with account he had 'behaved in an inappropriate way with young men', a further 8 people came forward who had worked on House of Cards, one of the films Spacey worked on, the production had to be shut down for 2 days because Spacy behaved inappropriately to a young male actor and made sexual advances on them. Then by September 2018 almost a year on from the original allegations two separate departments in LA the 'District Attorney's office' and the 'Superior Court', started to investigate a claim that Spacey sexually assaulted a young man in 1992, and a young masseur in 2016, whilst across the pond Scotland Yard said they had now 6 open investigations just into Spacey alone.

Unlike Harvey Weinstein has stayed reasonably quiet since the allegations but Kevin Spacey did something I think no one was expecting him to do he uploaded this video, this video is very weird and very offensive as he almost champions himself and he kind off almost admits to certain things as he says 'I haven't paid for the things I have done, and I certainly won't pay for the things I haven't done'. (Kevin Spacey, 2018)This is a very weird statement as if you read between the lines, he kind of admits he's done stuff and he hasn't paid for them, this could mean the allegations or not or the second part of the phrase could mean he hasn't done the allegations. I feel this video really splits people's opinion on Keven Spacey, my personal opinion is that he did the things he is accused of but he knows and understand he won't go down for anything, as he knows he is a very powerful man who has friends in powerful places. I feel this is evident in recent events that have happened since this video was posted on Christmas eve 2018. As in in the same month Spacey was 'charged with a felony for allegedly sexually assaulting journalist Heather Unruh's 18-year-old son', but only 7 months later in July 2019 after some back fourth and Spacey pleading not guilty, after the main piece of evidence going missing, a lawsuit being filed and Spacey dismissing it and then to end the saga, in the July the charge was dropped.

As I prior mentioned there was a case against Spacy from a young masseur and this was from 2016. But in October 2019, the unnamed masseur died, this was a big win for Kevin Spacy as this has meant as of 29th October 2019, 'The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office announced' that 'Los Angeles prosecutors have rejected a sexual battery case against Kevin Spacey because the accuser has died.' The decision comes because they can't prove the allegations because the only victim and only other person present is now dead. 'The man also sued Spacey under the alias John Doe in a case that remains pending in federal court.' So it looks like Spacey will get away with at least some of his crimes, but there still could be more allegations to come but right now there isn't anymore against him, as of December 1st 2019

He is a an American film director who I think is most famous for directing one of the worst X-men films 'X-Men The Last Stand'. He has also been on the end of a lot of accusations and allegations from many women. Firstly He outed Ellen Page as gay in front of all her cast mates and crew, at the meet and great for the X-Men film mentioned above, Page stated she felt violented and another actress who had been part of the X-Men franchise Anna Paquin, she backed her fellow actress as she was present when this comment was made by Ratner.

Whilst working on another one of his films, Ratner has also been accused by Sarah Shahi that he pushed his groin on her and made very graphic sexual comments to her. The first two acts were in 2006 and 2007 and then 2008, Ratner then allegedly harassed a journalist from the 'The Jewish Journal' when they wanted a interview from a cover story. Then in October 2017, the epicentre of mass sexual allegations, ' a former talent agency employee accused Ratner of rape'. Then only a month later right at the start of November, six women, which included another actress who had been part of the X-Men franchise Olivia Munn and the actress Elizabeth Henstridge. Their accusations were that he sexual assaulted and harassed 'as well as following an actress into a bathroom without invitation and masturbating as another entered his trailer to deliver food'.(Kaufman and Miller, 2017 On the same day as these allegations, November 1st, Warner Bros announced it had severed ties with Ratner, but Ratner announces he was going step away from them, but I feel he only said this to make it look better on himself and like they were dropping him like other production companies such as Netflix had cut ties with other accuses such as Kevin Spacey. On the same day as most of Ratner's events, November 1st, he filed a liberal suit against now-former-employee Melanie Kohler, for damaging his reputation, but after motions to dismiss and strike the case, eventually in October 2018 the lawsuit was dropped and charges dismissed.

She is an Italian Actress who is prominent part of Me Too Movement, as she has thrown allegations around in an article by Roman Farrow who was at the centre of uncovering Weinstein, in this article it states she was sexually assaulted by Weinstein in the 90's but in the article it also states that 'she had consensual sexual relations with him multiple times over the course of the next five years', it also mentions that one her characters she played in one of her films, the first one she directed, was a homage to Weinstein, but Argento says that Farrow did her massive disservice and really misrepresented her. In response to this article She was one of the 'survivors' that got criticism and not championed, so much so she moved from Italy to Germany to escape this from her own press. To be fair to Argento she didn't stay quiet she got up at the Cannes festival a made a very moving, honest and shocking speech, this speech entailed a confession that Weinstein had raped her in Cannes when she was 21, and that this very festival had been his hunting ground, then the speech turned to an attack on the fellow people from the industry as she says 'And even tonight, sitting among you, there are those who still have to be held accountable for their conduct against women' (Severson, 2018)

Not even three months later from that speech on August 19th 'The New York Times' published an article that ruined Argento's power and reputation as this article was centred about Argento having her own sexually allegations against her, that were she sexually assaulted actor Jimmy Bennett. Argento had first met Bennett when he played her son in the 2004 film, when Bennett was 7 years old. The alleged assault occurred in 2013 when he was only 17, it was in a hotel room in California, he was under age at this time. From Bennett's account, in their encounter Argento gave him alcohol, performed oral sex on him and made him do intercourse. The actress had quietly arranged a $380,000 nondisclosure payment with Bennett, this only months after her 'survivor story' about Weinstein, this was probably to keep her reputation in tact. Bennett said it stirred memories of his own and he wanted to resolve the matter privately, in a statement in The Times he stated 'I was underage when the event took place, and I tried to seek justice in a way that made sense to me at the time because I was not ready to deal with the ramifications of my story becoming public. At the time I believed there was still a stigma to being in the situation as a male in our society. I didn’t think that people would understand the event that took place from the eyes of a teenage boy'.(Severson, 2018) He said he just wanted to move past the event, and was ashamed to come out sooner because he didn't want his story o be public, but he now moves forward just not in silence. Of course like everyone she denied the allegations and said her partner paid Bennet money to avid negative publicity. She gave a statement in this she said 'I strongly deny and oppose the contents of the New York Times article dated 20 August 2018, as circulated also in national and international news. I am deeply shocked and hurt by having read news that is absolutely false. I have never had any sexual relationship with Bennett', (Mumford and Kirchgaessner, 2018) This was met with a response by the paper it said 'We are confident in the accuracy of our reporting, which was based on verified documents and multiple sources'.(Mumford and Kirchgaessner, 2018) At first another huge Me Too survivor Rose McGowan, said she supported Argento , but she was soon proved wrong as a photography surfaced online that was a topless Argento with Bennett, she then admitted she had an sexual encounter with him after texts surfaced too, but she said Bennett sexually attacked her as by saying this she is trying to save herself as much as she can in my opinion. Like other cases this meant she got dropped from something and for her it was the Italian X-Factor.

This is an a organisation that was founded to end the sexual abuse and the culture around it in Hollywood 'This organization, has raised millions for legal funds and amassed volunteer lawyers, as well as donating to women’s organizations and sharing support lines and advice for shooting sex scenes. Time’s Up has also been about visibility as well as action, with actors promoting the campaign at awards ceremonies, for example, by bringing activists as their red carpet dates to the Golden Globes.'(The Editors at Times Up, 2018) The organisation has helped and somewhat pushed others to make their own changes as it helped 'the Producers’ Guild of America drew up and issued anti-sexual harassment guidelines',(The Editors at Times Up, 2018) this is already illegal but as the world has seen from what has happened over the last 30 years the law won't just stop it, people have to understand and be aware and have these guidelines in place to be pro-active and help others practically or verbally if the time ever does come. 'The guidelines include training for all cast and crew and designating people that workers can approach to report any incidents.',(The Editors at Times Up, 2018) the first film to these on is Wonder Woman 1984, which is a very relevant and almost unsurprising act, as just on a way smaller scale Wonder Woman was the first genuine, successful female superhero movie and paved the way for others and now its paving the way again. Times up has a UK department as well and the leader of this said that Times up is about the harassment and bullying but is also about the equality and diversity as they are issues that still need addressing and sorting as well as the sexual harassment culture of the performance industry. I feel like through the spark of Me Too and the reaction that has come women have used this there advantage as they rightly should have used this moment not just to tackle the harassment but the equal pay that needs to be addressed and equal job opportunities and overall diversity in the industry.

No one denies the Me Too campaign has given people confidence, giving them an opportunity and a chance to express the way they are feeling, given them a platform to speak on but has significant change actually come about from it. There has been these policies created by guilds and organisations but not many films or studios have rushed to put them in place, there has been talk and chatter and some of the accused will face the court of law and justice but actually still industry things seem quite the same as they were before October 2017, as at film festivals the line ups of judges mostly male and only when called out places like Cannes said by 2020 it will be different and at awards ceremonies categories are still male. The guidelines are all good but if they aren't put in place tested they become pointless and the harassment will continue as everyone who's very done it hasn't gone away they are just waiting till this all blows over to do it again. As it could all blow over, if no one goes down for it, the guidelines don't get implemented and then the people stop talking, I feel everyone who has morals wants it to stay but there will always be opposes to it.

The Me Too movement has impacted Hollywood in a positive and got people talking and little by little people have come together and outed the abusers and rapists but if you look at the performing arts industry all over the world there is still work to be done. Look at Bollywood an industry sometimes forgotten by the Western side of the world, this is a massive industry in India but like others in the Western side its dominated by male power and with that usually comes sexual harassment, assault and everything that follows. Women are still assaulted and abused by casting directors and 'Being asked for sexual favours in return for acting roles is something many people say is prevalent in the Indian film industry.' For decades since arriving in Bollywood women were told by producers if want to be given roles then they need to give something back, this is something that in the modern day shouldn't be tolerated but it looks like with the global community we have and Me Too movement being a global conversation it's power, influence and proposed guidelines and the confidence it brings hasn't reached this side of the performing arts industry yet.

Well with Me Too being a hashtag and having the internet search engines they can measure his movement and google have manged to measure where #MeToo has been most popular. From this study you can see that America and UK have the darkest areas which is to be expected but surprisingly some Scandinavian countries have high popularity for the #MeToo and so does Greenland and some part of South America. But the different shades of blue pretty much all over the world shows the global reach of the movement. The other question about the Me Too movement having an impact offline.(Seales, 2018)

The little #MeToo book for my Men- I’ve read though the book and picked out key pages that I will reference, firstly I hate it. I don’t agree with most of what it says. I feel like it generalises men and mentioned this ‘man box culture’ that was around in ‘1950’s American’, clearly a long time and I do agree with some of the phrases that some men treat women horrible and ‘wolf whistle’ and call them out but the way it just generalises that ‘oh one man does this and the others just agree’ it’s stupid and insane and the way it says that men should be out campaigning for women’s equal pay, it should be both genders. I feel like that from when boys are born that they have to hide their emotions and that women are brought up to like that, its so old fashioned and wrong. I feel like yes there are people who are like that but they are all over 70 and I think most teens aren’t like that and if they are they stuck in ‘high school mode’ they are stuck thinking like they would as young dumb teen, but everyone who has few brain cells doesn’t think this way. These rules that are ‘the real man rules’ are so old fashioned so flawed and something you just don’t see in this day and age. I think this book fails as it just shows the flaws of American culture not ‘the liberation of men’ like it says it is. I feel maybe because I didn’t have a dad, I wasn’t taught these things so maybe I am the wrong one and I just don’t see it, but yes as a boy you do get called ‘girly’ but not taught to not be it, I’ve not been taught or told that ‘being girly is less’ if Americans are brought up this way then it does show the flawed culture of America. The book floats the idea that men got cheated by the world and its media’s and that’s why all these men are doing bad stuff and becoming more alpha male and it just isn’t, people ae just psychopaths, it’s not man box culture its just bad men. I do agree with we all should challenge the men who are sick and who do treat women poorly and we should stand up women and everyone is guilty for that at least once. If people actually teach their sons ‘you’re better than girls’ then father has got problems. I do agree being silence we are accountable. I agree we should stand up against man box culture, as its flawed and wrong and backwards. The grand ideas it gives on how to talk to someone is common sense, even if they have been raped.

In a BBC article they asked the question 'How does an online movement secure an offline legacy?' In their article they mention Tarana Burke and she has said 'If we keep on 'making statements' and not really doing the work, we are going to be in trouble'. She is right it is amazing that so many people online have come out but now is the time for action like you have the support, you have the numbers now its time to act and time to strike. Furthermore 'Sarah J Jackson, a professor of communication studies at Northeastern University, believes context is the key to anchoring Me Too. "I wouldn't call hashtag 'Me Too' a movement at all," she says. "I would call it a campaign that is part of a larger movement. So I would call women's rights the movement, and feminism the movement. And I would say #MeToo is one indication of the sort of conversations that need to happen. "The next step is, OK so now we know the problem - how do we as a global community expand this conversation?"' I feel the article is trying to run this message of that it needs to start taking action in 'the real world' but personally I disagree with this because I feel the world we live in now is too far gone to turn back from social media we rely on it for evrything I rely on it to start my research for this unit and everyone relies on it for friends, news, information, videos so I feel it is never going away so I think the Me Too hashtag is a movement and is one of kind is it started on social media and will always have a home there. I think doing walks and having activist come together would be good but because its so global trying all these physical events takes away its one trump card that with the use of social media it can reach anyone and everyone so millions of people online can go to profiles of the opposers and challenging them, if you want Donald Trump to chnage laws then tell him on social media as in my opinion 1 million tweets to Donald Trump bombarding his timeline, daily phone use and life will effect him more than a one off 100,000 people walk to the White House. The #MeToo movement needs to stay on social media and use it not just to fuel the conversation but to fuel the future generations and educate the future generations on what is it right and what to do when someone is doing wrong.

I feel one aspect of the Me Too movement is quested by is that in US there has been a flood of cases and allegations but in the UK its been here and there or related cases to ones in the US. Of course the 'proud British' opinion that we don't have so many 'bad blokes' in our country but in reality we do, we really do but its harder and more of risk in the eyes if the law for British publishers to come out with allegations as 'before publishing, the media needs a water-tight case. To accuse someone of sexual misconduct, they would normally need proof (such as a recording) or a witness prepared to testify in court. In cases of sexual misconduct, both things are hard to find.' So British media are always worried about publishing stories in case they get sued, you don't even have to name someone to get sued.
'In the US, it's far harder to sue for libel. The reason is 226 years old, but as relevant as ever. The first amendment to the US constitution - adopted in 1791 - protects freedom of speech and freedom of the press.' 'So - compared to the UK - the burden of proof is flipped. Americans are less likely to sue, so US media are more likely to break the story.' Its also even harder if your an celebrity as 'When a public official (such as a government employee) or public figure (such as a celebrity) sues for libel, they must prove "actual malice". "Actual malice basically means the journalist lied," says Professor Karle. "Either the journalist published a story they knew was false - or they acted with reckless disregard over whether it was true or false. "That basically means - you lied."' In the US if you do win a case you do win a larger amount of money than you would do in the UK, to conclude 'If you've been wrongly accused, you may yearn for the British system - where publishing is riskier. If you're a victim, you may prefer the US system - where the constitution protects freedom of speech. Either way, the effect is clear. The US has a flood of cases. In the UK, it remains drip-drip.' (Amos, 2017)

They set up an event for people this called 'No Grey Area', this is for people to tell stories of theirs, and additionally they made a code for people to follow in theatre of how to behave, the theatre sector seemed ready to take action and respond to Me Too. They mentioned Kevin Spacey and said how everyone knew but no one did anything about it. 'Cassie Chadderton, head of UK Theatre' she said that 'The sector is a more supportive environment than it was 12 months ago. There is much more likelihood that you will hear the words: ‘Is that okay, or not okay?’. As the start of a conversation, that’s a good thing. Of course, a lot has to sit behind it.' 'UK Theatre’s handbook, Encouraging Safer and More Supportive Practices in Theatre, provides a benchmark for the industry in dealing with harassment issues; Featherstone calls it “fantastic”.' This book contains 10 very important principles 'designed to promote a safer working environment in theatres. “They are a way of having a conversation when you’re starting a new production,” Chadderton says. “Which then, we hope, goes on to create a much more open conversational culture. Which means it’s okay to talk about it if you think you’ve got a problem.' (Massie-Bloomfield , 2018)

'The Stage has carried out its own research into how the industry has responded to #MeToo over the past year. More than 80 commercial and not-for-profit theatre organisations, of all sizes and from across the UK, were asked about the action they had taken over the past 12 months.

Of course this prestigious theatre, was left very red in the face when the allegation came out against Kevin Spacey who used to be the director at the Old Vic, so the now executive director, Kate Varah had to act quickly and she came up with 'Guardians Network', this is 'an initiative in which members of staff are trained to offer confidential support to peers who are facing harassment issues, but are unsure of how to escalate them.' his has not only just been used by the Old Vic but over 50 organisations across loads of different sectors. 'Operating in the context of a wider network is, Varah believes, crucial. “I can talk to other theatres that are involved and say: ‘By the way, this trend is happening, have you experienced that, what training have you put in place?’. We can horizon-scan: everybody has experienced something that they wish hadn’t happened in their organisation, so all of us can collaborate and learn and come together to effect lasting change – because it is absolutely about what happens next.' This scheme also aims it help freelances too as they go wherever and need to feel safe, so if they can walk into a building and instantly know who their guardian is. These initiatives have had their affects on theatres around the country, one of them being the Leicester Curve theatre as the 'chief executive', Chris Stafford said that “many theatres, like Curve, have seen a real shift for the better in how we talk about and address unacceptable behaviour in the workplace”. 'Stafford said the industry must not become complacent, despite the progress being made, adding that a “dedicated HR function within theatres is crucial” to achieving the further change required. “As an industry we should seek to address how we might better support the 48% of organisations who don’t currently have this invaluable role,” he said.'

This is 'an initiative working with drama schools and youth theatres, feels the genuine, far-reaching change required will only truly be achieved through the passage of time. “We’re aiming to build a new generation of people who know that this is not okay. We’re not in a place where, if you don’t experience harassment, you don’t have to worry about it. We’re all part of it. Students proactively and pre-emptively have to know, because it is now an unignorable, integral part of training for professional development.' This was founded by Rachel Vogler, who was 'women’s officer at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, started Houselights with fellow Central graduate Kim Turford on the back of Central Says Enough, a campaign that challenged that institution’s “incredibly clinical” response to #MeToo by improving the support offered to students who had filed harassment claims.' You could say this works along side, 'Guardians Network' as it does similar work but on a drama school and youth theatre level. (Massie-Bloomfield , 2018)

5 Second Rule

Netflix has apparently banned people from looking at each for longer than 5 seconds, as a part of their new anti-harassment rules. Accord to an article in the Sun, it also says that 'The new policy also bans the company’s film crews from asking their colleagues for their phone numbers'. The meeting where the polices changed, the senior officials went there and apparently looking at someone for longer than 5 seconds is creepy. 'Other new rules include: “Don’t give lingering hugs or touch anyone for a lengthy period of time,” “Don’t ask out a colleague more than once if they have said no,” “Steer clear of a colleague once they have said they are not interested in you,” and “Don’t flirt.” The rules also encourage employees to “Shout ‘Stop, don’t do that again!’ if a colleague has been inappropriate.' Netflix haven't actually confirmed or denied these new rules, but they did comment that they are proud of their anti-harassment training that they offer. Some people have raised their opinion, and I feel I agree that the '5 second rule' is a little bit ridiculous as people sometimes are just thinking and 'space out' and end up looking at someone and if this is longer than 5 seconds they now run the risk of getting disciplinary actions against them. In an article I looked at the writer said that 'The no-asking-for-phone-numbers rule is equally bizarre. I don’t think this should be news to anyone, but there are plenty of legitimate reasons to have a person’s phone number that have absolutely nothing to do with dating or sex. Asking for the phone numbers of those with whom you need to communicate regularly is a normal, practical part of life, and Netflix is wrong to sexualize it.' (Timpf, 2018)

After these three interview I now have more of a understanding about just how big the reach of the Me Too movement has been so far, as Lucy is also a performing arts student so she is closest to this movement and like she said heard about it and knows the basics about it, it is also very interesting that she had seen and read an article very recently and it was about another person being accused, and this is someone I hadn’t come across yet in my research so it was interesting to gain new information as well and she knows a little about Harvey Weinstein as well. I feel this shows that being near the performing arts industry may have a little effect on how much you know and actively look for articles about it.

As my mum also said she actively has read a lot about it and she doesn’t do performing arts but she knew quite a lot about it again is this because she is a women and they feel like they want to know more, the answers Connor gave also back this point up as he knew nothing about it which again shows the Me Too hasn’t globally reached everyone and it maybe needs to do something soon or it may fade out of peoples minds who aren’t regularly involved in it.

(Nations, 2019) Just from that quote you can see that social media has so many different branches and parts to it and because it is so highly used by people around the world there's such a variety to the content and it is so many different opinions and it really now is the bedrock to most massive organisations and current stars as social media is used for so many different aspects on a daily basis and I think a crucial part to it is that it is different and unique to everyone as everyone's social media feed and who they follow is there and no two are the same, this something that people forget easily that the day to day person still is so dependant on social as the celeb's and organisations are.

The purpose of Instagram is simple, to take photos and post them and share them to your friends, followers, the world at large if become that famous and to share your life experiences in a visual way on this picture dominant platform. Instagram has many different purposes depending on the user and what you want to get out of it and if you think it can benefit you and your career or just life as it is. For people who don't use it as a tool to forward their careers it is just a place to look at photos, art, memes and news that we will see in their own feed that they have designed for themselves. If you want to become 'Instagram famous' you need to find a way to market yourself and make yourself stand out of the crowd and understand the platform so people notice you and your work and you need to do this by not only finding an audience that appreciates your work but by using the right hashtags, tagging the right people and posting at the right time to gain this audience, furthermore the third way to use Instagram is if you are already famous or at least famous on another platform to back up your fame and to give your fans even more insight in what you do on a day to day basis. If you are like I am just starting out on my acting journey I need to use Instagram in a way to build my online profile and promote myself as an actor and get myself opportunities that I wouldn't have had before.

Instagram is similar to other social media platforms in the way it works and how you can gain follows and the process of doing this, As you have to gain followers by making content that fits with the current trend or craze, another part of Instagram that is similar is that likes, comment, share, message, story and now live stream to your followers this is similar to apps like Facebook and twitter and the both now have this live stream feature as well this is unsurprising as Facebook now owns Instagram after their purchase of the app in 2012. The story feature is a massive similarity to other apps as it takes what is snapchats main feature and adds it to the many others that it already has, Facebook has this feature also, the live streams are another addition and similarity as this means people can see what you are doing right at that moment makes people even more interested in your day to day life's. The aspect of the following people is similar to pretty much other apps where you gain followers and these followers if enough of them can make you Instagram famous

Instagram is a lot different to other social media platforms as it is picture based platform that focuses on the user posting visual representation about their life and relies on other users want to look at them and like and comment but a difference to other social media platforms is that you can save the photos and videos that you see as on apps like snapchat and Facebook you can share and comment but you can't save what you see and look at it later, on Instagram you can and this feature is a difference but benefit to the users as it makes people look back at posts that they may have forgotten and then users that they have forgotten and start liking their posts again. Another difference is the business account aspect as you can make exclusive business account that you can promote yourself on and gain sponsorships on it. It is the social media account that gains all of the users attention because you are visually taking in what is on your screen, instead of just listening to YouTube or half read a Facebook post. A difference of Instagram to other social platforms is that it incorporates some aspects from each of the other platforms but all into one as you have story element from snapchat, the live streaming, commenting and liking from Facebook and twitter the video element that can be short or long from tik tok and YouTube whilst having the picture element from Pinterest but on a interactive level whilst being able to message and create group chats that is from Facebook messenger. Another difference is that on Facebook you can like, hate, laugh and react all different ways to post but on Instagram you can only like. Furthermore a difference is that you can make a business account for free which is a huge benefit for people starting out with not a lot of money and is difference as on other social media apps you need to pay for extras such as a business account. Another difference that Instagram has is its privacy rules as you can't download or misuse any of the photos and that in the bio section of a users account has a word count so you can only input the essentials about yourself and not personal details.

The purpose of Snapchat has changed over time since its creation it 'was initially focused on private, person-to-person photo sharing' 'Tilman, 2019) now though it has evolved and adapted into the social media behemoth that it is today. On snapchat you now use it so many different things, you can send videos, share stories public and private to your friends but also you can do it professionally and get loads followers and people messaging you, there isn't really a term of being snapchat famous but it I used by youtubers and other influencers that use it to back up their fame and keep them relevant. On Snapchat you also follow channels or shows to watch every single week some of these posted from YouTube or Instagram but some made specifically such as Zac Efron's new show Gym Time this was made specially for Snapchat and is quite popular. It was a very smart show to create as it is about keeping fit and healthy and they first aired it a few months ago so they could get a following before the turn of the new year then this will increase more people watching it to get fit and do their own techniques while having celebrity guest on their seeing how they do and it keeps Efron relevant and in the public eye somewhat while he's not working on any major film projects. Snapchat has it's similarities and differences to other social media platforms it can be used to message others and share videos and pictures but uniquely on snapchat these will delete either a second after or after the time you set, the videos disappear and you only get one replay on them and pictures are the same. It pioneered the story aspect that sits a part of Facebook and Instagram and these on Snapchat just went from just your friends to as mentioned above a range of influencers and shows about anything and every time from sport, to fitness, cooking, crafts, and weird experiments. Snapchat is used by ordinary people like myself but I mentioned it can be used by anyone from normality to fame and it can be used by organisations for different reasons as Sky News and Sky Sports use it to post News and goals and results but less famous organisations such as IGN use it for news or have shows on Snapchat on a weekly or daily basis. Snapchat has many benefits for personal use or from a professional aspect, you can add filters and be very creative with your personal pictures and send loads of different videos to your friends, on a professional side of things I can be used to keep you relevant and post every single day so your fans know what you are doing stay somewhat addicted to you which keeps you famous.

'The norm of the internet age is to create platforms in which everything is saved—everything is stored and documented digitally. Snapchat went the opposite direction and is predicated on our reality: moments are temporary and that’s exactly the feeling and behavior that Snapchat mapped to. Snaps could even be compared to television the first fifty years it was introduced: the broadcast aired, and that was it. Snapchat managed to tap into a lot of historical truths, instead of creating something entirely new.' (Tilman, 2019, Todd, 2016)

How Instagram has changed over time?

I feel there is two sides to the evolution of Instagram, they both start at the same point, 'Instagram was the place to envy the midday Starbucks selection of your friend, and ogle over a very trendy OOTD – outfit of the day. It was, and still it, a place to share your day via photos'.(The Editors at fifteen, 2017) Before long the site was taken over by the chase to get this perfect image of yourself and photoshop and photo editing apps took over and gained a massive spike from this. People became and still are obsessed with finding the 'perfect image' and Instagram accidently created this obsession when it first came out in 2010 as even back then it still had a few simple filters to alter your photo a little bit but from here filters became more and more prevalent as the years went on as they released more and more filters and different support apps such as Boomerang which have added to peoples interest and obsession with making every photo or post perfect and getting exactly the right filter or now even changing things about yourself before you post, like there is apps where you can change your hips and legs and whiten your teeth to change yourself this I feel has gone very far to the point that now people try to look like the perfect image and change themselves physically and get surgery and plastic surgery to make themselves look like the perfection everyone wants. In my opinion I feel this shows that the evolution of Instagram has gone too far, the filters were good at first to make your picture look different or unique everyone uses even myself but now it has lead people changing themselves physically I think this is a negative impact of the app but I feel it is too far gone to turn around ad only increase peoples obsession with it. I think Instagram has done some changes very recently in a effort to turn the tide.
Instagram are following in their parent company Facebook's footsteps by testing out removing likes from photos, 'Instagram is already testing out hiding likes in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, Italy, Japan, and New Zealand, which began in July',(The Editors at fifteen, 2017) of 2019 and on business accounts in the UK as well. I think this a good thing that not only Instagram and Facebook, Twitter also want to do this as well. In my opinion I think this a massive step forward for the platform and for social media as whole as people have become obsessed with success and getting the amount of likes on each photo that will make them 'blow up' or 'Instagram famous' and it's not a good thing that people are infatuated with how many people like a photo of theirs, so this experiment that Instagram are doing will hopefully be successful on a boardroom level so we can see it all over the world and it may make people realise that likes don't mind everything but we will have to wait and see if this happens. There is another side of the story to the evolution of Instagram is the brands 'in 2012, Facebook bought Instagram for over $1 billion, even with the risk that Instagram had no revenue coming in. The app continued to build up in popularity and within just a few more months the app reached 80 million users. At this point, it was clear that this app wasn’t disappearing anytime soon.
To help create revenue out of Instagram, Facebook launched sponsored posts in 2013, to allow brands to advertise on the platform and help bring in revenue for the app. These sponsored posts can be created through Facebook’s Business Manager system, which now has many different styles of campaigns available to run. Prior to this, the only way to advertise on the platform was to do it organically, which is a far less targeted method.' (The Editors at fifteen, 2017) This was the start of the constant brands on Instagram and by 2016 when the platform had over 600 million, the brands began to really use Instagram and start to benefit from it. Of course the less visual brands don't really do well on the app but any brand that has visual products or is creative can really gain a lot of revenue from the app as I mentioned the in app shopping as no been added makes it even easier to sell the products of the very large companies and smaller business will soon gain this feature as well.

There has been more changes in the last 10 years on Instagram as I mentioned prior the purchase of Instagram by Facebook in 2012 really kick started all the changes on the app, that have added to its rise, the ability to post up to 10 photos on the same post, up to a minute long videos, you now unable to see other users activity which I think is a change that probably was needed as users could then 'stalk' other users and see what they are doing which never causes anything good. Live streams, Instagram stories and IGTV are 3 massive changes to the app that have made people more active and have positively impacted individuals and organisations as they could post more frequent and show their followers what they up to on a daily basis and have actual live chats with the to engage them more.

What are Instagram trends

Instagram trends are always changing and very fast paced only massive trends that mean something or will help something really stay and keep going for a long time or that people just like to do. For example a trend that will never go away will always been the 'end of year' trend so at the end of every year people look back on what they have done and what has happened to them in the last year, for the end of 2019 this was even more prevalent this year as it was the end of a decade so from about the end of November onwards people were posting about their decade and the first trend to kick this off was Spotify with their 'Decade Wrapped' and this got everyone posting from ordinary people like myself on my business account I posted stories about my 'Decade Wrapped' and then youtubers I follow posting theirs then the artist themselves posting how many listening they got this decade. After this trend came and went we then had people just posting about their 2019 and collages of their year and how it was this a recurring trend that comes back at the end of every year as people like of review their year and some people even show off what they have accomplished or have acquired this year. Then finally at then end of the year people starting posting the '10 year challenge' as this time it was the end of a decade so people posted pictures of themselves comparing their looks and somethings growth and achievements in the last 10 years. There are trends that don't depend on the time of year or decade these are trends like the 'authentic' trend and things like '#tbt' as that is recurring as well, that means 'throwback Thursday' and this trend is where people post pictures looking back on themselves or event that happened to them and comparing it to the present

Who and what is Instagram right for ?

Instagram can be right for anyone and everyone depending on your need at that time. For budding actors like myself trying to gain a following to help me in the industry Instagram is the perfect place to firstly build this entail following as it is the most visual medium out of all the social media platforms, it is very brand friendly and because of the constant updates and new features it will always stay relevant so it won't ever die out and is a safe place to start out my journey. Furthermore for smaller business it is nine times out ten is the right place to be for them as they can grow just from a small town business to globally known around the world and people wanting to go across the world to see whatever they have. Instagram can get people wanting and even addicted to something without them even seeing it in person so for example a craze in America of 2019 was Ice Cream Rolls and I watched loads of them and then finally got to try some myself and this want to get them meant I went out my way to find any I could and I used Instagram to find out that St Ives in Cornwall where I was at the time had very good ice cream stalls and there is where I found them, then I 'Instagrammed' it so others could go and enjoy the experience I did and this was all because of Instagram that this even happened so it just shows it can really be right for any business, product or person that uses it. As its not just aspiring performers who Instagram can help; photographers, football freestylers, YouTubers, musicians any creative profession Instagram is right for and help craft a career out of just posting frequently enough and understanding how to post, when and what hashtags to use. Instagram can be also used by already globally famous celebrities to keep their careers relevant and keep them famous or even famous ex-presidents like Barack Obama I think without the internet people would have forgotten about this man but he still is on Instagram and has got 25.7 million followers and the man is still relevant and can still help people without being president. Instagram is also just right for people who just want to use it as memories to look back on like this account about Bob the Cat, his owner just wants to be able to remember him forever and through Instagram she can do that.

Benefits of Insatgram

Instagram has so many benefits as does social media as a whole its true connection aspect it brings a massive planet full of people together on one platform, through their pictures, interests and ability to take and create the best photos and videos. Another benefit of Instagram is the amount of good it can do and has done since its creation, because of how connected the world is through this visually powered platform, people, charities and causes can post something and there followers can post it then there followers post that and it carries on. A recent example of this would be about the Australian Bush fires people everyday are sharing posts, videos, donation pages anything they will spread the word and keep people helping. Another example of this would be the Me Too movement as when it first exploded into the worldwide news circuit it was powered by social media sites like Instagram to keep it relevant and keep people talking, it is seen as one of the biggest or the biggest social media campaigns in history and it shows even though the internet can be a bad place in times of need its users can band together. I think a benefit of Instagram that is overlooked is that for a high proportion of people is a new site and people get news about the world its stories, sports and much more through the use of Instagram and the scrolling on its posts. I think at the heart of Instagram and a reason it might have been created is that it pretty much can be an online modern day version of a photo album as I have mentioned how open Instagram can be but you can make and keep accounts private and just have the photos for you or the people that you want to see them and it can be for the user to look back on and remind them of happy memories of life events that happened to them, as I have mentioned I feel this aspect of the platform has been lost over the time. A part of Instagram that people look over which is still benefit is the learning part of it and the videos of DIY and the food and cooking tutorials as well these are a massive part of the platform and people post daily videos about easier life hacks and ways to cook different foods, the fashion and make up side of Instagram is massive as well people post videos about how to do different make up styles and use different make up products and the already changing fashion world is posted all over Instagram as well, this is all connected because of the rise of fashion Instagram added a new feature that means you can purchase items from the picture you are looking and this filtered in football post so people can buy football kits straight from the launch post of them, advertisements on Instagram also are benefits of this feature as people will buy whatever they are trying to sell more often if it is a simple way to do it. Finally a benefit for Instagram that I think people dont realise is how inspirational it can be as performers like myself can use it to inspire them into creating something new and distinct as Instagram is so broad and diverse.

What organisations use Instagram ?

Many organisations use Instagram as well as individuals these organisations are from all over the world and many different types of them. The ones I personally know most about are the sports teams every football team from the most famous in the world the ones like Real Madrid and Barcelona to teams in league 2 like Forest Green Rovers and for every football team theirs all the footballers who have accounts and surprising for every football team there's fan accounts and transfers accounts as well, then there's the broadcasters and the right owners like Sky Sports and the Premier League and the competitions such as the upcoming Qatar World Cup in 2022 that has its own Instagram page. These all do need their own pages because of the amount of people, fans and followers around the planet interested in everything to do their team or what they can compete for. Its not just sports teams that have massive following on Instagram, because of its focus on pictures I feel clothing brands do exceptionally well on this platform more than others because people can look at their clothes and products straight from the same app and now buy from it too with the new pricing feature you can add to photos too, brands like Calvin Klein and Gucci are some of the most famous ones. It's not clothing brands that have their own Instagram superstores like Tesco and Aldi have their own accounts and have millions of followers on them as people are interested in news and new items and products that arrive in these stores. Its not just the stores that have a following its the products as well Pepsi has a massive Instagram following of 1.8 million which for just a drink is a crazy amount, even restaurants have accounts Nando's UK as 230 thousand followers. the entertainment industry has so many followers and always gaining more and more because of the amount of movies and TV shows that come out every year and the studios that produce them are increasing their following as well for the highest grossing movie ever Avengers Endgame that official Instagram account has 11.6 million followers and that movie has already come out and so has the DVD and Blu-ray it just shows how just a movie can have such a massive following, Marvel which is what the movies and many others are based off has 44.8 million followers, and TV shows that have been and gone like Prison Break still has 1 million followers and this account has posted for almost 3 years it just shows how popular Instagram is. Another whole different side to Instagram is the make up side of things where make up companies have account and again try to promote and sell their products through the app or just get word out there about new products they may have and example of one of these is Soap and Glory they 780 thousands this shows just a sample of the amount followers in these industries. Island Records are a record label that represent some of the biggest artists in music names like Elton John, Shawna Mendes and Nick Jonas, before Instagram I really don't think fans would have cared about record label but even they have 307 thousands followers.

'Facebook began in February of 2004 as a school-based social network at Harvard University. It was created by Mark Zuckerberg along with Edward Saverin, both students at the college. It wasn't until 2006 that Facebook opened to anyone 13 years or older and took off, rapidly overtaking MySpace as the most popular social network in the world. Facebook's success can be attributed to its ability to appeal to both people and businesses and its ability to interact with sites around the web by providing a single login that works across multiple sites.'

Facebook is the biggest, most popular and most well known social media site in the world, I think this is because of many reasons one of these is because it is so user friendly and easy to use for any generation so a variety of ages use this form of social media. It started out as just way to keep in contact with your friends and as a way to talk to them and if they live far away you can use it to stay friends, so because of this simple premise millions and millions of people have signed up to it and still use it or something Facebook have successfully done is planted themselves in place where people use their account on it to sign in other apps, games and websites so they are still connected to everyone even if they don't use it on daily basis, and because of this they have stayed relevant even if its not with the current teenage population it is still used millions of adults around the world. 'Facebook makes it simple to share photos, text messages, videos, status posts and feelings on Facebook. The site is entertaining and a regular daily stop for many users. Unlike some social network sites, Facebook does not allow adult content. When users transgress and are reported, they are banned from the site. Facebook provides a customizable set of privacy controls, so users can protect their information from getting to third-party individuals.' Facebook over the years has had many updates and now has a range of features some of its own creation and some taken from other social media sites, these features include friends list, uploading photos, 'interactive online chat and the ability to comment on your friend's profile pages to keep in touch, share information', 'supports group pages, fan pages, and business pages that let businesses use Facebook as a vehicle for social media marketing', 'Facebook's developer network delivers advanced functionality and monetization options', 'You can stream video live using Facebook Live', 'Chat with Facebook friends and family members, or auto-display Facebook pictures with the Facebook Portal device'.

YouTube is a very well known social media site and I think a different type of social media site to the rest of them and has been around quite a long time, its been around since 2005 and ever since it has been growing and growing and now its one of the biggest social media sites in the world. Everyone pretty much can understand the features of YouTube you post videos on their to get views, fans and a following, really anyone can do it as well, there is millions of youtubers and because now the evolution of technology means anyone with a decent smart phone can actually become a youtuber just from that one device and its going to get even easier for people to create videos and post them but realistic anyone can do it but not everyone can become famous on this very competitive platform, only the people who really understand the platform can conquer it, its always changing and shifting as well with new users and people growing up and falling out of love with their once favourite youtubers, so the crown of YouTube is ever changing right now in my own opinion and I think for once the opinion of the mainstream media KSI is on top and he is doing anything he wants an doing well, he's on morning television, working with different companies, being in very famous news outlets like 'The Sunday Times Magazine' and all this is because of the boxing rematch he put on with Logan Paul and the reason they both got there was because they conquered the platform and understand when to post, what hashtags, what to post, what to say and what not to say, they grasp the YouTube algorithm better than most and used it to their career advantage.

YouTube does have lots benefits some of these if do you well are the fame and fortune that comes with it, if you can make an actual job out of it, its way more fun working 9 to 5 on a normal job, you can pretty much create what you want and when you want, you join a community of millions that you work with and thrive off and make groups that can be successful and create whole new lives for people. YouTube does has its downsides though as many youtubers joke about 'the comments' section on any and mostly all videos is very dark and negative place as people can comment anything pretty much and get away with it, which can affect the mental health, the progression and the overall mood of the YouTuber receiving these comments, this is a massive downside of the platform, which it shares with Twitter. Some downsides of YouTube is the content as because of how popular the site is, some of the content is unsavory and explicit and let's down the rest of the platform in my own opinion

Musical.ly was a quite popular short form video sharing app that was around for a while but in August 2018 it was bought out then shut down and taken over by the company called ByteDance and new app was created, all the users, content and accounts were automatically moved across to the new app called Tik Tok. Tik Tok kept the same basic style as its predecessor, with the short form videos up to 15 seconds on any topic. Tik Tok has many different features as it 'offers users a wide selection of sounds and song snippets, along with the option to add special effects and filters. There is also an option to directly add videos created on your phone.' 'In September, TikTok added the reactions feature which allows users to record their reactions to videos and share. TikTok has also added a digital well-being feature that alerts users when they spend over two hours on the app. The new app is being promoted as a video-sharing social network. TikTok users can create a variety of videos ranging from challenges, dance videos, magic tricks, and funny videos. The key differentiating factor between Musical.ly and Tik Tok is that the latter has a much broader scope for video creation.' Tik Tok over the last year and especially very recently has become very very popular and more and more people have jumped on the app either to make Tik Tok's or just to watch them. 'The app reportedly has amassed over 500 million monthly active users, the US being the most popular countrywhere it has been downloaded over 80 million times.' 'Another key driving factor in TikTok app’s popularity is the fact that despite being a global app, it has a strong focus on localised content. The app often runs local contests and challenges and captures on local trends through the use of localised hashtags. TikTok runs the “1 million audition” contest across several countries, separately. For each contest, participants are given themes to create videos and then the top video creators are awarded. This contest not only leads to the creation of thousands of local videos, for each country where it is held but also helps TikTok creators gain recognition and followers. One such contest held in Russia in September 2018 gained 31,000 video entries and millions of views from TikTok users. Thus, it helped promote the app in the country. The app also uses local trending hashtags to suggest topics for content creation to its users. This helps the app capitalise on local trends and generate viral content for the platform. For example, “Seaweed Dance” was a fun video type that went viral in China. Tens of thousands of TikTok users created a video on this theme. TikTok also sends personalised recommendations to each of its users. This ensures that TikTok users are always updated on the latest trending videos and are never out of ideas for video creation. Using these techniques, TikTok has been able to pull off localisation on a global scale.' 'this short-form video content is played as soon as a user opens the app. The videos start playing one-by-one and a viewer gets lost in a sea of fun, entertaining, addictive video content. Due to this addictive nature of the type of content, it is very easy for people to keep watching random videos for hours.' Tik Tok hasn't been completely taken over by brands yet but it could be done as 'due to its fast growth and rising popularity, many brands are now realising the potential of TikTok as a marketing channel.' 'Several brands have utilised techniques like TikTok challenges and contests to get users to generate brand-related content. Brands are also leveraging hashtags, in a more or less similar fashion as on other social media platforms, to promote their TikTok marketing campaigns. Take, for example, Guess brand’s #InMyDenim campaign. On September 1, 2018, the Guess brand took over TikTok and invited all US-based TikTok users to their #InMyDenim hashtag challenge. The contest urged users to create video content wearing denim (of course) and using the hashtag. This was the start of TikTok’s brand partnerships in the US.' At this moment Tik Tok is very popular but it will need to do what YouTube has done so very well over the years, it needs to innovate and find 'new ways to engage their user base.' 'They will also have to make the platform more marketing-friendly for brands in order to establish the app as a social network that is going to stay. With more brands looking to TikTok to further expand their social media marketing reach, TikTok is on the right track. If it is able to capitalise on brand engagements, it is sure to grow further and may even be able to compete with other social media platforms.'

Twitter is a of the most well known and most popular sites of social media, it has been around now for almost 14 years so people have been using it since then and it had grown and grown, it used by millions of people around the world. It differs from other social media sites and is mainly is a word based platform with a weird rule of only being able to tweet very short messages to your followers and the world, another way to describe this is microblogging. 'Microblogging is a combination of blogging and instant messaging that allows users to create short messages to be posted and shared with an audience online. Social platforms like Twitter have become extremely popular forms of this new type of blogging, especially on the mobile web — making it much more convenient to communicate with people compared to the days when desktop web browsing and interaction was the norm', the short messages can be in any form from text to images, videos and even gifs. Back to Twitter though, it can be used in many different ways for the different needs of the user, as people can use it to discover other accounts, and find interesting news and memes for themselves to enjoy. Twitter is a very popular site but why is it ? 'In addition to its relative novelty, Twitter's big appeal is how scan-friendly it is: You can track hundreds of interesting Twitter users and read their content with a glance. This is ideal for our modern attention-deficit world. Twitter employs a purposeful message size restriction to keep things scan-friendly: every microblog tweet entry is limited to 280 characters or less. This size cap promotes the focused and clever use of language, which makes tweets easy to scan, and challenging to write. This size restriction made Twitter a popular social tool.' The way twitter works is really down to tweeting what you want and then gaining a following and then tweeting on a regular basis so your following dont lose interest and you as an individual stay relevant. So anyone can tweet, people can tweet for many reasons as well some of these being; 'vanity, attention, shameless self-promotion of their web pages, or simple boredom'. Twitter can be a tool for peoples careers, journalism for example is a career that benefit from Twitter as budding young journalists can use this platform to get themselves heard and get their opinion to the world. Not all of Twitter is good though some of it as horrible as I mentioned it suffers from the same problem as YouTube the comment section of a video or the replies on a tweet isn't really a place to go for kindness as people can be horrible and some comments are inhumane. A sadly quite famous strand of the horrible part of Twitter is known as 'Football Twitter' this is kind of like a movement of accounts that are slowly getting blocked from the site as they just abuse and try to defame football stars and around famous that are in and around the game. This is a problem for twitter as you can make any account with any name so and nothing is fact checked so people feel like they can get away with stuff and say stuff they wouldn't normally do in person. Gladly though especially in the last few years Twitter has had it's up side too, because of its conciseness and the power that words have and the following of the celebrities and the easily available retweet feature the Me Too campaign thrived on this platform and really took off from just a smallish movement to a worldwide phenomenon that it now is and because or the constant use of Twitter the movement even now over 2 years on since it blew up, it can still stay relevant and people can still come out with stories and news about the issues that surround it. Twitter appeals to anyone and everyone including celebrities as many of them use it and understand how to use it well as they send 'daily updates foster a sense of connectedness with their followers, which is powerful for advertising purposes and also compelling and motivating for the people who following the celebs', many very famous celebs use Twitter like Ariana Grande, Piers Morgan, The Rock and even Donald Trump. Twitter can also be used for marketing tool for companies as well because 'The modern internet-savvy user has grown tired of television advertisements. People prefer advertising that is fast, less intrusive, and can be turned on or off at will. Twitter is exactly that.' (Gil, 2019)

What are the positives and negatives of social media

Social media has many positives and negatives, I've covered some of them for particular social media sites but not overall. Starting off with the positives of social media it has so many because it is so vast and has so many branches to it. A massive positive is social networking. Social networking is 'the use of dedicated websites and applications to interact with other users, or to find people with similar interests to one's own', as well as this people use social networking as a way to expand their business or brand to benefit themselves and generate an extra income or expanded job opportunities which I will come onto later. Social networking is a positive as well because it just means people use social media to its neat full potential to enjoy the contents and activity gain something from being in their. By making contacts around the world that you can get in touch with the push of a few buttons, who can help you further and career or expand a business through their own contacts. Another positive of social media is just getting your name out there, if people can understand how to use the hashtags and understand the inner workings of social media they can really put themselves out in the world and try and make a splash in the pond that is the internet. A positive of social media just from a individuals point of view is making connections, talking to people, communication, being able to make friends with someone half way across the world just from your phone, it's a massive positive that the world is connected and people can learn to understand other cultures and ways off life, which in my opinion I hope will stop more conflicts before they happen if people learn more before they judge and this can be done through social media and connecting to others is the first step to this. I touched upon another positive their education through social media you can educate yourself and learn many different things from languages to cooking to DIY, as I mentioned above you can educate yourself on different cultures and ways of life, broaden your understanding of the world just from your bedroom, that's the power of social media. Social media is the fastest way to talk to someone without being in the same room as them, it's also the fastest way to find out news and issues rather than waiting for the 10pm news on the TV you can find out any issue from anywhere and keep up to date with news from all different topics like sport to politics, health care to the state of the African Rainforest. Referring back to the Me Too Movement, this wouldn't have happened if social media wasn't a thing as it can create awareness for anything that people care about and keep it relevant, the Me Too campaign was kept alive and going and still is now thanks to social media and the constant tweets, post and videos about it to keep fighting the fight and trying to get the rest of the world to notice and they did and because of that relentless battle one of the main culprits Harvey Weinstein is now in court and may pay for his crimes but it doesn't stop their the movement will continue and continue and through social media that will be done, the accounts, the hashtags everyone can help just by one Instagram story or a Tweet anything can add to the cause. Recently something social media has helped raise awareness for is the Australian Bush Fires, as people all over the world are posting about it and making aware the heroes over into the country who trying their best to stop the fires and save the animals, all over my timeline, full of English peoples accounts, and I can see posts everyday about this and people raising awareness and now money for them. Social media isn't all positive sadly it has many negatives, an issue that crops up most of the time for social media is its relation to mental health and how it can affect peoples mental health. As mentioned prior the comment section and replies on videos and tweets are dark places to go as people on social media feel like they are so untouched and powerful as for some sites you can make accounts without any validation needed so people can feel like they can say anything to anyone and get away with it so people openly abuse others and attack them for doing anything even if it's not really seen as wrong and this can happen over a long period of time and just be bullying by people to others over any platform they wish to us. This can then in turn affect the user receiving them and affect their mental health, self esteem and make them very depressed and affect them on a day to day level, the content they make, and how they live their lives and ultimately could end up in suicide or just death anything like that caused from social media really does show how negative it can be. Sadly there are more bad parts to it, another is the stalking and pedophilia, that are both ripe on many platforms, which really puts parents off their kids getting social media as, as I mentioned before when posting on a social media site they can post what they want and people see what they want so people can pose as anyone and they try to talk to anyone and use the site to try and meet the people they are stalking in person, or just looking at users online can be enough for those sick and twisted people. The last main negative part of social media that affects people is the comparisons that people make between themselves and celebrities, as people compare their own situations and looks to others and this lowers your self esteem and effects you on a personal level as makes you feel worse about yourself and the things that happening to you and the way you look. As people idolise celebrities for example kylie Jenner and see her lips and want them and then want to change the way they are with lip fillers and face lifts and the use of cosmetic surgery to make themselves feel better and this is never a good thing to change yourself because of someone else.

How can social media generate employment opportunities?

Social media can generate employment opportunities in many different ways, the most frequent type of gernateing employment opportunities is seeing advertisements online on social media sites as different sites have different algorithms but if you Google something or search for something on a site then you will get advertisements of things that you search and theres always catalogues of jobs and companies advertising for in my case young actors and performers for stage and screen roles just for experiences. You can also make business accounts on Facebook and Instagram and this will help you get employment opportunities as you can promote yourself by showing off what you do and how good you are at it and then by using hashtags and understanding posting methods gain more followers and people will start to notice you more and you will gain some contacts and hopefully some employment. On these business account you should and can post showreels on headshots of yourself so people can see what you do and how good you are it. As you grow a following on your business account and you get your name out there you can start doing ads for companies even ones that are to do with Performing Arts and then people start to recognize you, your name and your brand so they take note and notice who you are. Finally through social media and social networking which, which I have covered, you can find agencies online and then join them and this is a very simple way to generate employment opportunities for yourself.

Social Media can impact your chosen career path or profession you want to go into in positive and negative ways depending on many factors. Starting with the positive, social media can be a powerful tool which I will covered later, but you can use it to as I mentioned put your name and brand out there post about yourself and make people take notice this in turn, will impact you as it may mean you have more of chance in your career as your already more well known the other people going for the same job. Furthermore, if you wanted to you could tweet or tag famous people or companies in your posts to again see if this will impact you in a certain way. If you flip the scales social media could impact you as companies and organisations can use it to contact you quickly and effortlessly instead of having to wait weeks for letters or even a few days for emails, they can see your profile and with one click can be messaging you about opportunities. There is a negative way that social media can impact your career. As you could already have a career lets say as a blogger or influencer but people as I mention above will still abuse, bully and harassed you for any reason or no reason at all and this can impact not only on your mental health side but your profession side of things as you could start to self censor your own posts and lifestyle which is never good thing anyways as you shouldn't let comments and negativity change who you are and what you do, but it could also mean because you pull back on certain elements of your brand you may in turn miss out on massive employment opportunities, all this because of negative comments. One negative that I feel I have not covered from social media is the exposure it gives people so they feel like they can say what they want when they want and no one will check them up on it. For example a footballers career can be up an down buts let they start off at a small club but then sign for Manchester Utd, then they are in the spotlight and anything they have said on social media can be found this could then hinder them later on in life, if it was something small like 'they don't like Manchester Utd' or something worse. James Gunn is a very famous director and the same thing happened to him as over a decade ago he tweeted some very 'offensive” jokes about taboo topics like rape and pedophilia' and this meant that after while of him being in the spotlight people started to dig out this old tweets and this created a online storm that a man who can make these jokes shouldn't be working on such a privileged film and shouldn't be working for a company like Disney so 'Disney has fired writer-director James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after a right-wing media personality resurfaced a series of offensive tweets Gunn made, in many cases from 2009 and 2010. “The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values,” Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, “and we have severed our business relationship with him.”' Disney fired James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and this massive as it became almost a side taking exercise people could take the side of this man made these jokes once and is a sicko and doesn't deserve work or this was a decade ago and people can change and jokes are jokes. Honestly this is the side I take as, and the fans and actors took sides, his original Guardians of the Galaxy cast sided with him and made a petition to get him rehired and fans got on board with this as well. 'Director James Gunn has been rehired to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3 after he was fired by Disney over decade-old tweets that joked about rape and abuse. It comes after famous cast members from the Marvel series signed an open letter pleading for Gunn's return. In a tweet he thanked Disney and his supporters and said he is "excited to continue making films that investigate the ties of love that bind us all". He was fired last July over the tweets that Disney called "indefensible".' Disney went back on what they said in my opinion I dont think they actually sacked him in the first place as money talks and that man has and can make them money so I think 'they sacked him' in the public eye and used social media to impact his career and make look like a bad guy and then the fans and actors used social media to impact James Gunn's career again to get him rehired in the public eye and it now looks like the fans did this themselves but I think this was the plan all along, this shows how social media can make or break someone's career and anything they put on social media can or will impact them later on down the line.

KSI- Account name, KSI
Info in bio- 'Everything Me' and link to his other works boxing, music, YouTube channel, other social media accounts.
Info they post- current events they have been doing for KSI, the boxing match the build up to that and then 3 post of his win and congratulating his team for all the hard work they did to help him. The images shows off how all the hard up, the 'trash-talking' and the hype paid off as JJ won the fight. Furthermore if you go further back you'll pictures with other celebrities like Floyd Mayweather and then you'll pictures with the Sidemen, their clothing, videos and just what they get up to and his music tour. He also does advertisements for things he uses and this increases his already very large income.
Hashtags- KSI, doesn't read to do much self promotion as he such a massive celebrity, he does some hashtags but these pretty much are either self promotion of promotion of something he is involved for example on video of training on October 26th he hash tagged #ksiloganpual2 as that was the fight was being marketed as and the other hashtags he uses are just for ads so his fans know that the post is actually ad. In most of KSI images he only has very short captions, either just a good quote that sums up the picture of what he going through or a funny quote that someone else has said and he has changed it in some way or used it for laugh and more likes. In some posts he does have longer captions these are mainly thanking people around him, like he did a very long post about his boxing team, how they were the reason he won and a post about being part of the sidemen for 6 years and talking about his experiences.
Selling- Their profile does sell them as an artist, as he promotes himself, and tries to make himself look as good as he can and he wants show him his achievements and what he does and what he has done. His profile is pretty professional for the way he comes across as he is quite a stirrer and does try to sometimes attack people but his Instagram professional he does take small 'digs' at people but this are subtle as he doesn't want to dilute his feed with 'internet drama' as he wants to be taken seriously in the music, boxing and generally in the world news and industries.
Represent well- I think KSI doesn't really care about how he represents the industry, just himself and his friends and people he thinks who deserve it, he does show his talent very well as he shows off his achievements and shows off what he has done, like the music and boxing and the YouTube videos. His is showing something new within the work he is doing and others and how they are breaking barriers as thats what he did, he used social media as a tool to help him go from a normal school kid to the famous creator that he is today. He used his little window of social media on YouTube to keep up with current trends, to do FIFA career modes and then ultimate team, and then moved on the more 'blogger videos' and diss tracks and then he did the boxing, he used to keep up with the trends but now he makes them, this shows his meteoric rise and how powerful and famous someone can become if they use social media as a tool to benefit themselves, people have tried to copy KSI but no one really has been that successful in every field he has tried his hand in as he has been pretty successful and resilient in doing everything that he's done.
Influences- I think the things I take from his profile are how he always @'s people and thanks people who have done stuff for him and who are doing things for him now, I could do this I could @ people more and thank people more and also just post more of my interests and have shorter captions, furthermore, I could always copy KSI but do it in my own way and try my hand at not only instgarm but branch out to other platforms as well like he did.

My opinion on social media I feel has changed not only throughout the time I have had it but whilst I've done my research for Me Too and social media as a whole. I do like social media for many different reasons, the main one for myself is the connectivity that social media brings as it means I can talk to anyone and message anything straight from my phone and it's now so easy and you dont even have to get up to talk 5 people at once and social media opens up doors that was once closed as before social media if a parent left a child at birth there was not a lot of chance for reconnection but now children have the option to find their parent and try to talk to them if they want to. I also enjoy the news and memes aspect as I mainly look at football news on social media and I read most of my news even about Performing Arts on social media as it can be posted on at anytime, so it is so up to date and you can get the latest news on there for example when someone who I admire Stan Lee, when he died I heard about it straight away, and I can use it to keep up to date with current events like the Australia bush fires. As well social media can be very funny and I feel brings out the creativity in most people as the amount of edits and memes that you seen straight away after an event is crazy and the people can be relentless. My opinion on social media hasn't always been so positive as before my research I knew I didn't use social media to it's full potential as I'm not a massive fan of how some people use it. As I feel bad if I kept harassing celebrities as some people do just to get a reply or for them to see you, everyone has messaged someone famous before but after no reply I dont try again but some people keep messaging and just annoying people and I feel that's wrong. Also the hate that is online is downright disgusting there's so many stories of abuse and bullying online not just on the celeb level on a day to day level at schools people can use social media to bully others and the platforms dont do anything about the abuse, even when Youtubers call it out and try to tackle it, the platforms, Twitter being one, haven't done anything and haven't changed anything like no accountability for people and no identity verification when people join these sites and I feel like this needs to change and soon. As I've done my research into Me Too and social media I have come to like social media more or at least what it can do, as I have mentioned the awareness made for the campaign by social media and the drive people have to get justice for the survivors does show the impact we can make and having Harvey Weinstein in court as I am writing this just shows that these people have made a difference as the man who started it all of may now pay for crimes. Overall I do like social media as it is doing and has done a lot of good since its creation but I feel it's still needs a lot of improvements and adaption to make it the secure and happy place that it is first looked upon when people join.

How does Instagram exist in todays society?

Instagram is a way of insight into people's lives if they want you to see as if you think cynically the people on Instagram only post what they want you to see as they can control everything about their profiles, from the bio, pictures and stories so the followers can think they see everything from the person they follow but really they only see a snippet and people's obsession with the celebs and influencers and trying to see everything to do with them is crazy now and has gone to far that people follow and look at every little post and every fan account so they don't miss any news about that person. It has impacted society in a way that means people have become obsessed and addicted in getting followers and getting amount of likes in a certain amount of time after posting. My friend Jack, at the time of writing this has 1,173 followers but actively tries to get more and what he posts he hand picks he doesn't post any old photo, he choose them and make sure everything about them is right from the lightening to the colour gradient of the photo. This I feel shows that Instagram exists in our society in and way in my opinion as I don't think it is healthy for people to be this addicted too social media and need to think about every little aspect of one single photo before posting it, instead of when Instagram first came out people couldn't edit photos and had to post pretty much the raw photo and didn't care how many people followed them or liked their photos

How has Social Media been affected by the Me Too Movement ?

Social Media has been affected massively by the rise of the Me Too Movement. I feel the effect has actually been a positive one as I have mentioned the prior positives and negatives to the platforms but Me Too brought out not only the best in the platforms but the people using them as well. I think the platforms that have been massive parts of the Me Too movement are Twitter and Instagram they have been positively affected by this as the people using the platforms have become more positive and there is more of a collective feeling on the platforms or at least when part of the hashtag or a follower of the official Me Too account and this has taught everyone to be better people and brought everyone together. Not only from your town, city or country, people from all over the world have been brought together through the pain and suffering, everyone from different walks of life to fight the cause. Another affect it had was it made people more aware of what was not just on there feed but beyond it as everyone's feed on any social media is always unique to them so sometimes they forget people aren't seeing the exact same things as they are but having this movement brought people together to focus on one aim but made them look at the bigger picture as well to see that everyone sees the world different and their social media reflects this, but nevertheless they can still band together for this movement. As people feel connected and together this has made the general person more aware and more confident to call out abuse and bullying and keep the news aware of the movement so this meant that still now more celebs who may of thought they could get away with their crimes are getting called out now for example Dan Schneider got called fired from Nickelodeon in March 2019 and that ran on the news online till at November of that year as there has been suspicious activities between himself, others of staffs and the child stars of his very famous shows sometimes these activities were apparently abusive from Schneider to staff members and over the years there has been 'multiple complaints of abusive behavior against Schneider filed by members of his staff… for years Schneider had been under a cloud of suspicion over the treatment of some younger stars of his shows. Among the things that have raised eyebrows are his tweeted photos of the toes of his young female stars.' (Silver, 2019) This shows that Me Too had a clear affect on social media to be able to call out more people in the public eye and it's meant that ordinary people just feel more open to talk about these once taboo topics and feel they have a community that will to listen to them and help them.

What opinions have been raised via social media ?

Many opinions have been raised via social media to do with the Me Too movement, you'd think without research that all the opinions that have been raised are in agreement with the global movement but there have some that may have contradicted others, some who haven't been swayed yet, people denying the accusations and some others flat out disagreeing with the movement which shows the varying degree of people and users on social media and how they choose to use it. Of course mainly there have been floods and floods of opinions that agree with the movement, these opinions not only from random people around the world, very famous celebrities have supported the movement of course Alyssa Milano but also Lady Gaga, Reece Wetherspoon, Jennifer Lawrence, Barry Crimmins, Rosario Dawson, Terry Crews and many more. The amount of celebrities and general public that agree with the movement is outstanding. There has been figures who may have support the movement but ended up looking a but clueless which in turn affected their own case, I am talking about Rose McGowan as 'she said she supported Asia Argento, who was also a survivor, but she was soon proved wrong as a photography surfaced online that was a topless Argento with Jimmy Bennett, she then admitted she had an sexual encounter with him'. This support and this opinion raised on social media really back fired for McGowan as this meant people started to question her story about Harvey Weinstein and this made her seem less believable and doubt crept in to the opinions of the general public. This shows that raising your opinion on social media isn't always a good idea and doesn't always mean that it will end well for you and it meant she had to issue an official apology to make up for her error of judgement. There is another side to the opinions raised on social media as people like Kevin Spacey have most definitely come out and not been happy with the movement, as it has meant he has been accused of many things himself he has released a controversial YouTube video and a quote from that is 'I haven't paid for the things I have done, and I certainly won't pay for the things I haven't done'. (Kevin Spacey, 2018) I feel this opinion that was raised really split people's opinion on Keven Spacey, my personal opinion is that he did the things he is accused of but he knows and understand he won't go down for anything, as he knows he is a very powerful man who has friends in powerful places. The opinions about himself that he raised were very weird as if you read between the lines, he kind of admits he's done stuff and he hasn't paid for them, this could mean the allegations or not or the second part of the phrase could mean he hasn't done the allegations. Furthermore a quite famous writers and influential feminist Germaine Greer has pretty much disagreed with most of Me Too which to her fans and the general public was quite a shock as she has been a supporter of women's rights and wrote countless books on women's rights and supported it throughout her years. When it comes to Me Too she has used social media to talk about how she doesn't agree with it. Greer has been interviewed many times by not only media but by her once fans and 'Greer said that “if you spread your legs because he said ‘be nice to me and I’ll give you a job in a movie’ then I’m afraid that’s tantamount to consent, and it’s too late now to start whingeing about that”.' (Flood, 2019) In my personal opinion this is disgusting that she can claim she supports women's rights and comes out with statements like this. For my research on Greer I watched these two videos they are both from the same talk from Greer as she has to sit and face the facts from her once fans, even then after these opinions being thrown at her she still sticks to her won opinions that she has raised and doesn't sway at all even when people call her out. Anyone can have any opinion on Me Too and raise it using whatever social media they like. Many people have seen these Me Too posts and many comments have been made about them and people have flooded to have their own opinion on it as you can see from this scree recording that from Milano's original Tweet that thousands if not millions of people commented on her post, quite a lot of them saying the most well known phrase 'Me Too' but not everyone others who hadn't had anything happen to them were congratulating not only Milano, the other celebrities but everyone who has come out and said even just those two words as it takes massive confidence to do this. I feel the actual comments that you get on social media about Me Too depend on the platform that you are looking on, as because Twitter started off the Me Too that comment especially if you look at comments from that original post that I have one, if you compare this to the next screen recording of one of the latest tweets about Me Too the comments are still positive but they are more in depth are not just looking at the fact of being a survivor but how to deal with peoples opinion of you being a survivor and the struggle of being a survivor but still trying to be happy, it shows two things in the last 2 years that has changed in the opinions of the people that is reflected in the comments, one that the confidence of people hasn't changed if something people have become more confident because of point two people are now looking deeper into #MeToo and seeing what has happened since then and the effect of not only just movement on the accused but the survivors as well.

Social media has supported the Me Too movement in many ways, the main way has been the hashtags and account as the official Instagram account has 36 thousand followers and the official #metoo has 2.3 million posts, it is now 2020 and people are still posting the most recent one is was as I am writing this 6 seconds ago, the relentless support has continued and clearly there's no stopping it. The Me Too movement may not be in the news every single day and there may not be any new stories or accusations coming out and Harvey Weinstein may not face any punishment for his crimes but social media will always support the movement, not just what has done but just what stands for it was originally created to 'help survivors of sexual violence, particularly Black women and girls, and other young women of colour from low wealth communities, find pathways to healing' (Burke, 2006) now those communities aren't just small towns or cities they are on a world stage and the movement can and I hope will eventually reach everyone and every where so all the people can feel a part of it and the support from social media is key to doing this. Also the news that people like Tarana Burke share and keep telling people, her appearances on the news keep the general public interested in the campaign. Another way social media is supporting the Me Too movement is the confidence and the extra drive it gives the movement as up until 3 years ago no one would even to think to call out a celebrity let alone a president, your own president but the constant tweets, post and accusations about Mr Trump mean people like this woman who is just a senator has the now confidence to call out this man, social media is the driving force behind everyone's new found confidence.

In my opinion there has been a change in the world of social media and I think the change has been mostly positive as, I have mentioned people have grown in confidence and now will call out anyone they want and aren't afraid to challenge anyone or blame anyone for even having a suspicion of doing anything wrong. This is a good thing if people do it within good reason but I feel the line has been crossed a few times just from the pressure that social media can bring upon people. As I have mentioned before I am all in favour for the community feeling that the Me Too Movement has created but I feel sometimes this can become like '“mob mentality” in pursuit of prominent men accused of sexual assault or varying misconduct', not even prominent men just men in general and this change isn't a good thing as people could go to jail for things they never did just because a women has accused a man it doesn't mean they are right. An example of this almost happening is when 'A student who was wrongly charged with rape has said men falsely accused of a sexual offence are also victims as he welcomed the move to force complainants to hand over their phones for disclosure purposes in such cases. Liam Allan , then 22, went on trial in December 2017 facing 12 counts of rape and sexual assault. He had spent two years on bail and endured three days of trial before the case collapsed as it emerged his supposed victim had been pestering him for "casual sex".' (Davis, 2019) Allen had already spent two years on bail, if he had lost his case 12 counts of sexual assault and rape then his sentence could have anything from if he was really lucky maybe two years to life in prison all from a wrong accusation and the change of social media was the cause of this as people feel fearless this is good, up to a point as something like this actually happens you've ruined someone's life, furthermore, people have used Me Too movement to abuse twitter as a platform and this 'Mob Mentality' has taken off as people will just get on the back of anyone who has been accused and harasser them via social media to get them confess or just to feel something this shows how there has been a change in more of the people using social media not the platforms itself. The change in social media isn't all bad as people have kept creating more hashtags to try to evolve the conversation of sexual abuse one of them is #NotOkay, this is a hashtag that is on Twitter and is a branch from the original Me Too hashtag. This show's that social media has changed as things are just a one hit wonder and lost in the void of social media, this is another place that shows the change this link is to a tweet showing the backwards thinking of the people in power in the USA and shows the change in attitudes of social media users as they now they can speak out and if they get the attention of others what can the people in power, what can Trump really do to thousands of people criticising him. Another change that shows that the change in social media has positive elements is the Instagram trend that is 'Posting More “Authentic” Content on Instagram'. (Chacon, 2019) This trend shows how people can be confident and open in a good way and feel able to share themselves at their most vulnerable and the change in the attitudes of the people posting these is good as they are now posting pictures like this and the change in the attitudes from the users seeing them as people want to support this and champion people who post this.

Has social media helped the issues raised ?

Social Media has helped the issues raised and has supported them through the constant comments, posts and keeping the hashtag going, this has meant even just in the eyes of people that use social media Me Too stayed relevant but also it made people more aware of issues in their life on and offline and this has meant people have fought more and been more persistent with the celeb's that have been accused and made sure no ones claims have been forgotten. This constant chatter online and social media has meant every so often Me Too comes back into the mass media and people talk about it again on TV and in the papers and this is all from social media as if it didn't keep people talking and didn't keep the topics and issues that Me Too fight against relevant then people wouldn't see them spoken about on TV which gets the movement more coverage and other generations learn more and remember about the very important movement. I feel with the power in Hollywood Harvey Weinstein actually thought he would never go on trial as his appearances straight after October 5th 2017, he seemed a defiant figure, who didn't really care but because people online kept coming at him and keep tweeting other figures in the media and news outlets this kept the confidence up from other survivors to keep coming out the woodwork against Weinstein which built the case against him that he is now facing, and this is all because of social media. The support social media has given Me too has meant there has been a branching off for other organisations or events to get traction and get support as well an example of this is the Time's Up Campaign, it is a branch of the Me Too movement it was founded by Hollywood celebrities on January 1st in response to the Weinstein effect and the Me Too movement. As of December 2018, it has raised more than $22 million for its legal defence fund. It was founded to end the sexual abuse and the culture around it in Hollywood 'This organization, has raised millions for legal funds and amassed volunteer lawyers, as well as donating to women’s organizations and sharing support lines and advice for shooting sex scenes. 'The guidelines include training for all cast and crew and designating people that workers can approach to report any incidents.',(The Editors at Times Up, 2018)

Without social media there is no Me Too, it started off the global outburst of the movement and use of the platforms as I mentioned has kept it relevant and kept it in the news cycle. Social Media has brought peoples attention to the Me Too and brought the rest of worlds attention to the mass amount of sexual abuse, rape and non-consensual sexual activities that happen in not only Hollywood but in the western world and people had to deal it by themselves but now they have communities to talk to and even if they don't want to go in detail because you can just say 'Me Too' and thats an acknowledgement that you have experienced something. Social media brought peoples attention to Me Too by the constant use of the hashtag, as you can't go anywhere without seeing a share of a Me Too post or seeing the hashtag, this meant that even though it started on platform it become cross-platform very quickly, no won Instagram there is the Me Too Movemnet account there two hashtags, on Facebook there is another official account and many groups, smaller communities just like Tarana Burke wanted where people can talk, share their stores and learn together how to carry on in life, because of the social media these are benefits, the vision of Me Too has been fulfilled in at least one way, there still is work to do but again social media can benefit Me Too it can continue to raise awareness for the movement and keep people talking and improve what it's doing with the generations of people who know about Me Too movement. I say this because Me Too is different to other movements that have come before it where adults know all about it and the teenagers have to catch up and feel like they aren't involved as Me Too started out on social media this is the world of the younger generations so they know so much about and can at anytime give it google and learn more as the hashtag is always active and there's always post about not only news but opinions, thoughts and stories. The older generations who just watch TV and just see the news as their main form on gaining information may not know that much about Me Too and this is benefit for Me Too as the teenagers now will grow up with this knowledge they have about Me Too and everything that they have learnt and what they can do, the difference they can by just speaking up and they can teach people younger than hem what to do and what not to do and its is different to other movements that die out when the adults stop caring but I feel Me To will never die out as the generations that know about it now will grow up and because its on social media it can never disappear or at least won't disappear or a long time.

Since Me Too the workplace has changed a lot these changes are; Guardians Network', this is 'an initiative in which members of staff are trained to offer confidential support to peers who are facing harassment issues, but are unsure of how to escalate them. Houselights is 'an initiative working with drama schools and youth theatres, feels the genuine, far-reaching change required will only truly be achieved through the passage of time. “We’re aiming to build a new generation of people who know that this is not okay. We’re not in a place where, if you don’t experience harassment, you don’t have to worry about it. We’re all part of it. Students proactively and pre-emptively have to know, because it is now an unignorably, integral part of training for professional development.' Netflix has apparently banned people from looking at each for longer than 5 seconds, as a part of their new anti-harassment rules. Vicky Featherstone and Lucy Davies', who are 'the artistic director and executive producer of London’s Royal Court'. They set up an event for people this called 'No Grey Area', this is for people to tell stories of theirs, and additionally they made a code for people to follow in theatre of how to behave, the theatre sector seemed ready to take action and respond to Me Too. Social Media as I mentioned did fuel Me Too movemnet and if it wasn't for Social Media there would be no Me Too but I feel it didn't actually have a lot to do with the actual changes in policies in the workplace as I feel in my opinion these were made because of the actual things that happened to actual people and the horrible acts that happened to them. I feel social media did have a small impact not directly but just the constant chatter and Me Too activity pressured the organisations to chnage their laws. Actually social media has criticised Netflix's change in policy because it sounds so weird and crazy and a bit little too far over the edge and is now more controlling than preventing.

What sort of a platform is it ?

Instagram is a visual medium platform that means that Instagram is photo based platform that focuses on the user posting a photo or video of their choice and then trying their best to promote it with hashtags and then the amount of likes and shares it can get from that users followers. Instagram is different sort of platform to others because it does mainly focuses on pictures and how things look and then only having a small section for a comment which is unlimited word count or at least very high word count but the main focus is on the picture or video above, compared to twitter which is mainly a word based platform that is challenge every time you post to have a good post you need to do it under the letter count set and Facebook again is about words but it does have pictures but the words take front and centre again so Instagram is a unique sort of social media platform to the ones out there that are as successful as it is.
