In the 1987 book Altajn Tsaadakh Govd, Ivan Mackerle cites a Mongolian legend which described the creature as travelling underground, creating waves of sand on the surface which allow it to be detected.^[6] It is said it can kill at a distance, either by spraying a venom at its prey or by means of electric discharge.

 

In South Jersey and Philadelphia folklore in the United States, the Jersey Devil (also known as the Leeds Devil) is a legendary creature said to inhabit the forest of Pine Barrens in South Jersey.The creature is often described as a flying biped with hooves, but there are many variations. The common description is that of a bipedal kangaroo-like or wyvern-like creature with a horse- or goat-like head, leathery bat-like wings, horns, small arms with clawed hands, legs with cloven hooves, and a forked tail. It has been reported to move quickly and is often described as emitting a high-pitched "blood-curdling scream".
The Lenape people who also inhabited the Pine Barrens believed the area was inhabited by a spirit called M'Sing, which sometimes took the form of a "deer-like creature with leathery wings.

Although many cryptids exist in America, partially because it’s one of the newest countries that has been the least explored, they also exist all over the world. Lots of creatures and monsters are deemed “supernatural” which is definitely a different category altogether, but elusive cryptids exist all over and one of the wildest is the Popbawa of Zanzibar.

While the creature has no steady form, a shapechanger by nature, it is said to create the silhouette of a bat like creature when swooping down on its victims. Hence it’s given title of “Popbawa” which translates to “bat wing.” Now the Popabawa is a little more savage than some of its cryptid cousins. While most cryptozoological animals seems to be of the “more afraid of us than we are of them” variety, still a handful exist that seem to lash out more or are even rumored to attack people. The Popobawa is much more vile as it, well. Yep. While the people of Zanzibar feared the ever changing beast for its vicious attacks, they were most terrified of what it would to their behinds.

Dragons are mostly well known for their appearances in European lore, although the Asian dragons are quite well known too. Have you, however, heard of the dragon that supposedly lives somewhere in Maryland? Frederick County of Maryland was mostly settled by German immigrants in the 1730’s. Strange early accounts in the area have reports of a half reptilian, half bird creature (sometimes even terrifyingly described as having tentacles) that would swoop from the sky and carry off townsfolk, draining their bodies of blood.

The Snallygaster was said to have a metallic beak lined with razor sharp teeth. The sightings went quiet until nearly two hundred years later, in 1909, when again county denizens started reporting being plagued by a monster with giant wings, steel claws and an eye in the center of its forehead. It was later revealed to be part of a hoax to draw readership to the newspaper which had offered a reward for the beast’s hide, but the description was taken from those original accounts two centuries prior. What’s really neat? Theodore Roosevelt himself hunted for the Snallygaster and there’s even pictures to prove it!

The Gaddis Argosy article delineated the boundaries of the triangle,^[9] giving its vertices as Miami; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Bermuda. Subsequent writers did not necessarily follow this definition.^[16]Some writers gave different boundaries and vertices to the triangle, with the total area varying from 1,300,000 to 3,900,000 km² (500,000 to 1,510,000 sq mi).^[16] "Indeed, some writers even stretch it as far as the Irish coast."^[2] Consequently, the determination of which accidents occurred inside the triangle depends on which writer reported them.^[16]

Lovingly dubbed “Mothman,” the creature has risen from local appearances to the national stage as a leader in the cryptid revival of the last twenty years.The cryptid comeback not only brings exciting mysteries into the lives of outsiders but promotes pride of place to the residents of towns like Point Pleasant.
