According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) (2017), the Australian economic production rose by 78% between the period of 1996 and 2015, but at the same time, environmental pressures in relation to energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions increased. Fortunately, water consumption decreased by 22% since 1996, whereas energy consumption increased by 32% for this period. GHG increased by 18% between 1996 and 2006 then declined again in 2013-14 which accounted for a 1% increase above the reported 1996-97 level. Thus Australia's overall GHG emissions, energy and water intensity declined between 1996 and 2015.

From Jan 1992 to Dec 2017, new single-storey detached housing approval has fallen 0.81%, whereas approval for new units in a four or more storey block has increased by 97.13%. The data depicts a significant trend that when buying a new home, Australian's are moving away from typical single-storey detached housing and towards units in a four or more storey block.

Data sourced from the (ABS) 2017 shows employment in the construction industry 2015-16 financial year fell by 1.1% from the previous year, with sales and service income falling 0.1%. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) in the same period increased by 3.3%. Depicting the data can be contrary to itself due the increase in the EBITDA and the decrease in employment and income figures. The data available depicts a stagnant construction industry for that financial year.

According to studies conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) on reported crimes, overall male offenders have decreased by 2% (6,074) while female offenders have increased by 2% (1,448). Female offenders have been rising on a percentage basis for the past five years, although males still account for almost three times the crime of their female counterparts (ABS, 2017).

From April - June 2017 internet data downloads had increased by 15.8% compared to October - December 2016. A yearly comparison shows as well that from June 2016 - June 2017 data download had increased to 42.8% (ABS 2017).

According to data correlated by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, it can be shown that from the years 2010-2014 there has been an upward trend in the consumption of mixed aggregate concrete (ABS 2014). With a pressure on the availability of quarried material for concrete, there may be a need in the industry for alternative construction techniques.

Data gathered by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on the production of selected construction materials exhibits a decreasing trend. From 1985 till 2014 the use of the terracotta and concrete tiles has decreased (ABS 2014) which indicates that metal roofing became more widely used and a better choice.

Fibre connections grew by 49.8% in the six months between December 2016 and June 2017.
