Self Awareness

I am a compassionate, well-organized, responsible and flexible person.

Emotional Awareness

I am working on emotional intelligence; however, I am capable of hiding negative emotions in the workplace, including stressful situations. I am a straight-forward person who communicates openly without being scared of offending a coworker, but of course it is done with respect in a peace manner. I am aware of body language and I use it effectively and recognizes others’ as well.

Values and culture

I am a person who seeks learning new things, obtaining new skill and knowledge, which is why I admire workplaces which allow to have a freedom and contribution/initiative from their workers. I always try to look at any case happening in the workplace from various perspectives, analyzing it properly. I totally do not like conflicts; I am always for finding positivity in any situation or person. I believe that being open-minded is really essential.

Leadership Style

I believe my leadership style is coaching, because I always try to explore hidden talents and strengths of the people who surround me. I want to persuade people that they their power within and able to do much more, work harder, achieve more, which is why even in the group projects at school I am subdividing tasks in accordance with students’ strengths, and once I feel they are ready for more (or they ask) – I can give them more challenging tasks, but I will be by their side if they need me.

Personality and Skills

I did a Big Five personality test, which showed that I have high levels of conscientiousness and openness, which corresponds to how I perceive myself. I like to be creative in problem-solving, coming up new ideas, paying attention to small details, working on planning and time management. I care of other people and always ready to help them, guide throughout the process if I am competent, even if not, I do a proper research to be able to help. My main skills are critical thinking, organization, communication, stress management, problem solving, empathy and customer service – I believe this set is essential for the hospitality industry.

Manager vs Leader - manager is a person who gives orders and directs short-terms goals, where leader is the one who the workers want to follow, it is about long-term perspective, it is about inspiration for me.
During my previous work experience, I had been exposed to authoritative style, when there were no strict orders given, it was more about support and feeling of following a leader, I was engaged in the process and was aware of what I was supposed to do, the manager was inspiring as a role model. Everything was explained in details, not just the commands and you would have no idea of how to behave or that your contribution is not required.

There are common causes of conflict that I have witnessed in the workplace such as: 1) differences in perceiving situation - opinions and lack of desire of going for compromise; 2) poor communication or training; 3) competition.
I believe that conflict management is an essential skill that every manager has to obtain to deal with complicated situations and avoid it to happen again. At the same time conflicts might be a source of positive outcomes such as improving teamwork/relationship, filling the gaps, alerting issues in operations or needs for changes, whereas if conflicts rise due to poor communication or competition based on personality differences and leads to negativity only - it is a signal that it has to be eliminated, and conflict management techniques are of use for a such situations.

What motivates you personally?
I get motivated by acquiring new skills and knowledge, having a chance to contribute and propose new ideas to enhance workflow/operations, coaching others. I get motivated when I feel empowered, I need recognition and people around me to believe in me.

Hospitality Motivation Tools
I have noticed that people generally get motivated by money - monetary bonuses and promotion opportunities, professional growth development options provided by the organisation. Some employees are interested in getting more bonuses from the company such as gym membership, unlimited coffee/beverages, free educational programs. At the same time workers value recognition, however, some require personal recognition, whereas others - public. Moreover, there are people who need more challenges, new tasks - this way they would feel important and work harder as it would allow them to develop.

Nowadays luxury can be defined as money, exclusivity and high-end quality - this mix makes luxury being in demand and desire for many people who cannot afford it. However, definition has been changing over the years due to the trends and new ways of communication and consumers' behaviour.

Unconscious bias is a prejudgment/attitude towards one (social stereotypes) that has been formed since the childhood. For instance, Asians are good at math - is what people believe in, however, it cannot be applied to every person born in Asia - being good at math does not depend on nationality. At the same time people often judge each other by the appearance, when it does not correpospond to reality as well.
