Communism: All Soviet Union citizens are "entitled to housing." Their houses include dishwashers, and other technologies that the American houses also possess. Their houses are also "built firmly" and are meant to last for multiple generations.

Capitalism: Houses can be purchased over many years, so they are affordable to lower-class wage workers. They also possess and keep up with the growing technologies in the U.S. American houses provide variety and choice for American citizens, for they are not all uniform buildings like the USSR has. Lastly, American houses are made to be renovated and changed as styles and technology evolved as well, giving the Americans the ability to "take advantage of new inventions and new techniques."

Khrushchev acknowledged what he believed to be misinformation regarding communism in the USSR. He believed that Americans did not understand the equality, opportunities, and care that each Soviet man and woman received, regardless of their social standing. He addressed the prosperity that came from his government's value of their nation over individual demands.

Nixon, on the other hand, argued that people need their demands to be met and deserve the right to protest for their individual selves. The example of housing in the USSR vs. US describes the contrasting styles of governing. The United States' capitalism is built upon foundations of consumerism and product improvement. The USSR was more focused on providing strong and durable homes for generations. The US promoted new styles of housing and products, but the USSR didn't want to "reinvent the wheel," or redesign perfectly structured homes to please new trends or individual styles.

Thalia
Capitalism and Communism show different examples of prosperity in the same example of a house. Nixon says that the common steel worker can afford to buy a house with technology like the dishwasher in the kitchen, and Khrushchev says that building houses to last is more important. To a communist society, it is more important to have a house that is designed for several generations, than it is to have a house that is designed to become obsolete within a few years so that people will pay to buy another one. Prosperity in communism also exists because people are guaranteed housing, while with capitalism, people have to spend a lot of money to achieve the bare minimum of owning a house.

Both in Communism and capitalism show different examples of prosperity. To begin with, Communism has many examples of prosperity. Communism houses are a right to the people born into the Soviet Union. These houses are also built to last many years. They are also affordable for even the lower classes. In Capitalism the prices on the housing is affordable and they have new technology. They are made to be renovated for the new technology that is created. Also, Nixon argued that the people have options in housing, unlike the soviet union.

The "Kitchen Table" debate reflects the contrasting views of national development and international exchanges. Khrushchev and Nixon agreed that openness and representation in both nations would be beneficial for improving and advancing their relations. Khrushchev argued that the countries should put their styles of governing aside to address more pressing issues, but the United States (and other nations) would eventually have to join Soviet communism to progress. Nixon refuted his claims by stating that competition and exchange were necessary, and those elements were created by different styles of production and governing.

Thalia
In this specific debate, where Nixon and Khrushchev discuss the price of a house and the advancement of technology, Khrushchev discusses the downsides of paying a lot of money for a house that will only last 20 years, and shows that communism values having things, like houses, that last. However, when it comes to the debate over technology, he points out that in only 42 years, the Soviet Union has made advances in technology that are even as good as what America has made, even though America has existed, and been independent, for much longer.
Capitalism has a different view on housing and technology that represents the differences between Capitalism and Communism. The main point of Capitalism is to always strive for improvement, and to allow people to choose what they wish to buy. That is why the houses last only 20 years before they can be upgraded, or why people wish to buy different types of dishwashers. This also exists in America's constantly improving technology.

Capitalism works to provide for all of its citizens, for Nixon mentions that the production of goods like washing machines and other household technologies to make life easier women as well as men. However, Khrushchev explains that in the communist approach does not apply or cater to the needs of women. The communists felt that everyone had the right to have a house, whereas the Americans felt that people needed to be able to afford a house in order to have one. Overall, capitalism was more focused on giving choice and the best quality housing and goods to its people, whereas communism was more about ensuring uniform housing for all.

I think that the "Kitchen Table" debate reflects alot of things between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. relationship. To begin with, it clearly shows that there is an on going competition between the two countries. No matter what the subject the two countries argue over who is the best. It also shows that respect and open-mindedness would allow for both countries to improve. Lastly, the relationship is shaped by the differences more than the similarities between the two governments.

The 'Kitchen Table' debate reflects how the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. are similar in many ways, yet their political ideologies strongly shape the relationship they have. Within the debate, they came to the conclusion that they would be open to engaging in open conversation about ways to improve their countries. The debate also reveals that the US and the USSR motivate and push each other to become better, for they seem that they are very competitive about who has more advanced, better technologies and policies. This was shown when Khrushchev was arguing with Nixon about how the USSR had the same technologies as the US did, and yet they also secured housing for all their citizens and made their houses to last decades. This exhibits how the two nations have a competitive relationship that helps each other improve. Lastly, the debate clearly shows that the US and the USSR's relationship is very "'rocky" and complex when it comes to political policies. They established in this debate that they have never different styles of government that they are not willing to negotiate about.

Thalia
This debate is reflective of the relationship between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R because it shows how they have different views on political and economic freedom in society, and how this impacts their interactions. The U.S. and the U.S.S.R. compete with each other, to each have the better or newer technology but also to show which form of government is better and more beneficial to people. However, ultimately it would be beneficial to both of them to approach their relationship with an open mind and mutual respect.
