It all starts with the first generation passing down its traditions. These are the gender roles we are born into and learn to pass down to future generations. Our social construct of gender is strong in telling us what to do. Culturally, this is how we are raised too.

Not only have these gender norms affected us women, but they have raised men to not know how to fend for themselves without the reliance of a woman. Giving my partner the tools and knowledge to break traditions as individuals and partnerships is a step in the right direction, breaking societal norms. The apron can pass onward.

Especially in Hispanic households, we as women are taught to take care of our husbands and kids, often taking on way more than we can manage.
My mom, being a product of la cultural chicana, has given me light as to what could be for my generation.
