1 fun fact about Sri Lanka is that, Before its official name, Sri Lanka was called many different names, the names were used by different cultures and ethnicties Taprobane ( By ancient Greek geographers), Serendib,( by Arabs) and Ceylon ( by late European mapmakers) . Ceylon is a name still used for trade purposes. Another fun fact is that, Sri Lanka is full of cultural diversity, religion is very present, and there are many churches and temples. The 3rd fun fact is that Sri Lanka was hit by a huge tsunami in 2004. This affected the people their tremendously. Houses and coastlines were destroyed. The original cause of this devastating tsunami was a magnitude 9.1 earthquake. It is known as the Indian ocean tsunami.

Sri Lanka is Tropical. It is in the North Eastern Hemisphere, and it is very close to the equator. Sri Lanka is very hot with temperature averages between 72-92 degrees Fahrenheit. But in the highlands the temperatures are known to be much lower; 44-71 degrees Fahrenheit . The warm temperatures drive tourists to visit Sri Lanka all year long. Most parts of Sri Lanka get more than 50 inches of rain year long. The Climate of Sri Lanka can positively and negatively affect the people who live there. The constant rain and warm temperatures can provide fertile soil for agriculture all year long. However, on the days where the temperature gets to 103 Fahrenheight, people can suffer from heatstroke and then die. When it rains a lot, the water can flood homes. Therefore, when living in Sri Lanka, you should be prepared for hot temperatures and lots of rain.

Hydropower can fuel Homes, and provide clean drinking water, Ports allow easy trade, and the Moutains in the heart of Sri Lanka provide rivers and a good tourist attraction. However, the Location can isolate the people of Sri Lanka, the wet climate can cause floods. Being near the ocean can expose people to tsunamis and hurricanes.
