Blacks didn't expect that Whites gave rights and freedom to them. The whites were oppressor (the inheritance of slavery: segregation) and the Blacks were the oppressed. MLKing said that Black must fight peacefully ( speeches, boycotts, demonstrations).

We must live together and not the contrary. We must be united and we mustn't kill each other. "Perish" is a reference to the death of Black people. Malcolm X wanted to fight against the Whites, but MLK wanted to live with Whites. Malcolm X was a separationist: for him "together" meant living with Black people only. For MLK, "together" meant living in a mixed and more realistic society.

MLK evoked the Jim Crow Laws, which is a bunch of laws that established segregation in the law of the state (particularly for Southern states). It established a clear separation between whites and blacks and offered very little persperctive to Blacks. Jim Crow's phrase was "separate but equal", which could also be the motto of Malcolm X, in some respect.

MLK fought for ezquality. He said that because he was in favour of integration: he wanted the same rights for Black people. MLK talked about the human family: he doesn't want Blacks to be less important than White people.

Never forget that everything Hitler did in Germany was legal.

Hitler was racist, violent and powerful because he was the head of government. MLK was making a reference to the Ku Klux Klan, who were racist, separationist and violent. What's more, they were influencial people in society (sheriffs, judges, etc.).

Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that

The Black Panthers were a political party but they were in favour of violence. They were as racist as the KKK, but against Whites. The hate Whites expressed to Blacks was equal to the hate the BPP gave to Whites. In this case, society is bound to end up in destruction. Only love can save the fate of Blacks, as MLK thought.
