Sheila is childish in 'An Inspector Calls'... She calls her dad "Daddy" and her mum "Mummy", In the text she says: "Yes, go on, Mummy". Also, Sheila is engaged with Gerald, he gives her a ring and after she puts it on she says: "I think it's perfect. Now I really feel engaged.". After she had been shown the photograph of Eva Smith, she feels very guilty about . This is shown when she says: "...but I felt rotten about it at the time and now I feel a lot worse." . The word 'rotten' indicates she felt bad/guilty about it.

around her parents she is carless ,sweet, acts dumb (calling her parents mummy and daddy) and like she is always pushed around
( nothing to do with you, Sheila. Run along now.)
around the inspector she is more responsible for her actions and guilty- she is also more respectful towards the inspector than her father. Sheila is always thought of as being lower than her siblings she is always seen as childish and treated as on. She still calls her parents mummy and daddy which signifies that she is still a child.

Sheila and Gerald's relationship seems a little rocky to the audience and is portrayed as a relationship which has doubt and distrust in the mix. This is shown when Sheila says: "except for all last summer, when you never came near me, and I wondered what had happened to you." She also speaks to him with "[mock aggressiveness]", which gives the audience the idea that Sheila thinks that he is not completely loyal to her.

When sheila is around the inspector she is more responsible and respectful of the inspector also when she is with the inspector she admits her flaws for example: "Inspector: In fact, in a kind of way, you might be said to have been jealous of her.
Sheila: yes, i suppose so."
This shows how Sheila evolves as a character from a 2D, bland, fake person to a person with flaws guilt, regret. Such as guilt for having Eva fired

We feel like Sheila is shut down by all the men in the family. She has no voice of her own, and changes her perspective on capitalism as the play progresses. She accepts her mistake and regrets it. We see this evidence when Mr. Birling commands Sheila to, "run along". We can see how she is ordered around in the house, although she is an adult.

In the beginning Shelia is very childish and spoiled. Her father treats her like something to "show off" instead of an adult woman. When the inspector arrives we see her other side. She immediately feels guilty about what she did. We can tell that because she starts crying when she sees Eva Smith's picture. We slowly start to see signs that she has different opinions than her capitalist. She seems to care more about human life and treating people equally. She understands that what she did was horrible and knows that this treatment of people is wrong.

The narrative voice describes Sheila Birling to be; "a pretty girl in her early twenties, very pleased with life and rather excited." pg. 1, Her description of her appearance reinforces her characters traits as being young, pretty, and spoilt. She represents many of the upper class women of the time, as all their only goal in life was to find a wealthy husband and have kids.

-Priestly intentionally made sheila seem childish in the presence of Mr Birling. Throughout the play, she also acts prim and pampered as a result of their social status. Sheila gives the audience hope that society can change by positive inputs from the society.
-She represents the younger generation, very impressionable.
-Slight indications that she is a socialist; because she believes in working as one.
