With my final poster design I wanted to focus specifically on the genocide going on in Palestine. While also tying it into current pop culture by using Superman as the main focus of the poster. Since seeing the new movie, Superman has inspired I and many others to be kinder and do good. So by using specifically the new Superman and an inspiring message people would be more swayed to take action. I placed superman in the middle looking hopeful with the hands at the bottom representing the Palestinian people reaching out for hope and for help. Having the flag of Palestine in the background makes people immediately recognise what this poster is about even from a distance. It also allowed my to make the red triangle in the flag look like Superman's cape. Overall i'm satisfied with my result as I think i was able to create a good poster for my chosen subject and make people want to take action.

With this alternate version of my poster, I wanted to try some typography by placing the word 'hope' repeating inside the red triangle. I personally prefer my original version to this alternate, as the small text inside the red triangle makes it feel more cluttered and detracts from the original vision in my opinion.

With this alt I wanted to change the colours around a little bit, I also removed the gradient underneath Superman as I wasn't sure about it at the time. Instead I added gradients to the flag in the background, with the colours brightening as you go up. I think I prefer my original poster over this alternate version as I think the gradients make the bottom look muddy and too dark, and the lack of a gradient underneath Superman makes him look like he doesn't belong.

With my collage I focused on more literal interpretations of revolution much like my mind map and mood board specifically focusing on cycles and things that repeat. I cut images from magazines with some relating to the theme and others i picked because they stood out to me, like the strange bench in the middle of the page, the cliff and the chairs i put on the left side. I used the large mining equipment in the background since it related to my idea because the machine performs the same action of mining all the time, going through a cycle of mining and collecting the spoils. Similarly, the watch represents the cycle of time and the car because they go from 1 point to another, but always return home, going in a circle. I think this collage was a success as it got me thinking outside the box for things that aligned with a specific aspect of the theme.

With my traces I didn't go in with much of a plan, starting by tracing aspects of my collage like the watch and car, But I later ended up going back to the political side of revolution. I traced photos relating to current events, like the Charlie Kirk assassination, Banksy's latest work, the situation in Nepal and different political figures currently in conversation. I then added text from headlines also related to recent events. Then for my second page of traces I did something simpler being a large sillhouette of Boris Johnson with some other texts around it. I plan on layering this underneath my first piece of tracing paper. Overall I think this was successful since I was able to take my simple traces use different techniques to create a new peice.

With my initial sketches I first wanted to practice drawing various different types of cars, from boxy sedans to sleek sports cars and large Trucks. I did this because I wanted to identify where my struggles were so i could focus on fixing them soon. I think these were a success because they defined my process of how i'd draw cars in the future, starting with boxes and slowly cutting chunks out and refining them into the right shape, almost like sculpting.

I switched to digital art to produce some more in-depth studies, one fully shaded and with colour and another one as an unrendered lineart drawing. I moved to digital because I could use special tools such as the liquify tool to augment my rough sketch to make it more accurate to my reference. I also took more time to perfect how these 2 looked as opposed to my looser and more innacurate paper sketches. Overall I think these were a success as they really helped me get over the roadblock that was drawing accurate cars of differing shapes.

Backgrounds and their elements have always been something I struggled with, so I aimed to tackle and hopefully overcome this problem in my project. So i started by drawing some different types of trees as i've always struggled with them. Thankfully the process wasn't as hard as i thought it was. I used a youtube video about backgrounds from an artist called 'Pikat' whose helpful tips gave me a good and most importantly, quick process to drawing trees. This being to block out the leaves into different clumps, then colour and shade them with jittery hand movements to create the illustion of leaves. Then go in with a lineart brush and some squiggly lines to imply the idea of leaves. I didn't use colour in these tests because I wanted to focus on value, but i'll definitely return to trees to use colours in the future. Overall, I think these were successful because I was able to learn how to draw good looking trees quickly and efficiently.

After my trees I wanted to focus on buildings as they are also something i tended to struggle with. Using a similar process to the trees I drew a house, but I rushed it a little bit and it ended up looking more like a shed (top left). So for my second house I took it slower and invested more time, while still keeping my streamlined process and mark making techniques, and I think that increased time investment really helped make this drawing better (top right). For my final building I wanted to do something a little different and more challenging, so I chose a building with an interesting perspective and lots of different textures and tones, using the same process as before and after finishing it I'm really proud of the outcome. My favourite thing I learned from my backgrounds crash course is the idea of 'implied detail' which entails only using a few strategicly placed lines to give the impression of a texture, like bricks or planks. Overall, I think these studies were successful because I was able to take the lessons I learned from drawing trees and apply them to something different.

I figured to end my triad of studies I'd spend some time putting what I've learned all together into one drawing. My first was a sketch of a new york street, I chose this because of all the various buildings, textures and things going on. And also because of the Honda car in the foreground. I used a slightly simpler style as there was a lot going on but I still think I was able to capture all the hustle ad bustle. My next drawing was taken from a scene in the anime 'Jujutsu Kaisen' which is one of my favourites. I tried to go all in with the details and tone. I was also able to use my knowledge of trees a little bit in this drawing too. As for the people I kept them mostly as shadowy blobs in both artworks, but for the second I gave some attention and detail to the 2 focal characters of the original scene, while decreasing the transparency of the shadowed pedestrians as to not diminish the two's presence and importance. Which I think really elevetated the scene. I think these outcomes were successful because I was able to use all my knowledge from previous studies to create one cohesive artwork.

I started off by splicing different images of racetracks to create a winding curve that went off into the distance. Then adding some of the elements of my other studies, placing shadows underneath them to make them look more belonging. For the different drawings I used, I chose my first car drawing from this project, placing it at the back. I then chose a drawing of a car from when I got more comfortable with my process and put it in the middle. Finally I chose a drawing from when I switched to digital and had studied other artists, proudly placing it at the front. Overall, I'm very happy with this outcome as I was able to show off my progress throughout this project in one single piece.

I took different pages from different series I've read and drew a line showing which panel leads to the next and how artwork helps guide the eye of the reader. Doing this I was able to see how different authors are all able to achieve a similar effect. I also did a practice with dialogue and dialogue placement, using my knowledge of manga-making for the text. Overall I think this was successful because I was able to learn more about the process of making manga.

I used the image of a Cheetah, since they're the fastest land animal in the world I saw it to be the perfect fit for a story about racing. I wanted these designs to look simple since they're set in a world more akin to real life. I found this quite difficult since I'm used to drawing more fantsatical and detailed designs. I tested a few different designs for 'hair' and for the outfit. I used a racing jacket since they have some really interesting and bold shapes with bright colours. Overall I think this was a success as I was able to lay the groundworks for a character relating to my project.

I needed to make sure the colours I chose looked proper next to the colour of his fur. I also added some other head sketches showcases different expressions and a hat.

I knew that I wasn't able to make a full comic in the time I had, so with my outcomes I wanted to make it look like I had taken pages from a larger story. So I immediately went into an intense race for the first page. For the cars I used the same process as before, taking custom screenshots of 3d models of the cars to use as references. I didn't do too much of a background, rather opting for a basic night sky, since I wanted to make the race the main focus. Only drawing the cars and the road also allowed me to put details into important places. I used screen tones for the colours to add to the manga look, but didn't use too many shades out of fear of making the pages look muddy and unfocused. I also added some hatching to both the cars and the road to make it look like they were moving. Finally I added some japanese symbols/onomatopea, representing the noises the engines would be making, I made these symbols clip outside the panel borders to make the page seem more dynamic/intense. Overall I'm really happy with my first page as I was able to really lock down the process I'd use for the other 2.

My second page is a direct continuation from the first, using the same processes. I also wanted to use the characters dialouge to give context and forward the story as to not confuse anyone reading. I also wanted to use some more dynamic camera angles and positions. For panels featuring the characters, I left their backgrounds purely black so the focus of the panel was purely on their thoughts and what they were saying. I also used the rival's dialouge in the bottom panel to make the main character seem inexperienced. Overall I like this outcome a lot as I was able to give some context and add stakes with a little dialouge.

Kerry James Marshall is an artist who is most famous for his paintings of Black people. He was listed on the Time Top 100 most influential people in 2017 so it was very surreal to see this exhibition after learning this fact. His art is very bright and colourful with figures in all sorts of different situations, celebrating black culture. I enjoyed the exhibition because I liked the vibrancy in his paintings and the grand structure of the rooms they were presented in. Even if it didn't relate to my project.

With my third page I wanted to a tiny time jump, cutting to the end of the race and a conversation between the 2 drivers. Again I didn't use too many detailed backgrounds, this time to make it seem like the two were in their own world, focusing on their conversation rather than the outside world. Though I did draw a background of the front of a building on the large portrait panel of the main character, to give the impression that it was important and for readers to remember it. I also wanted to add a slight comedic flair to the page with the 2 characters, simplified, staring at each other in an awkward silence, featuring the japanese translation of the word 'silence' centering the panel, which I translated using DeepL. Overall, I think this is my favourite outcome of the 3 as I really enjoyed drawing my characters in a style that differed from my normal one, and I enjoyed using their expressions and mannerisms to show their differing personalities.
